Tree ID Activity
Science, Life Sciences, Nature & Plants, Biology, Grade 1, 2, 3, Activities, Games
Test your pupil's knowledge of common trees with this simple, fun Tree ID Activity. Introduction and objectives This simple puzzle, helps children to learn to recognize a tree by its leaf and fruit. The trees included on the more advanced puzzle are: Oak Ash Beech Horse Chestnut Sweet Chestnut Hazel Hawthorn And on the easier one: Oak Horse Chestnut Beech Hawthorn How to use this activity The tree activity can be used as part of a science lesson on comparing trees, or as an assessment after studying different trees and their fruits, possibly in autumn time. It can be successfully used alongside our Leaf Sorting Activity. It can follow a walk where the fruits of different trees are collected along with their leaves, in autumn, and the children can use books or other sources to help them to identify the leaves and fruit - as such it can be a learning activity rather than a puzzle. Children can either draw lines from each fruit to ots tree and then its leaf, or the sections can but cut out and stuck onto another sheet (provided). There are two levels of difficulty, one activity with seven trees and one with four. Choose the one most suitable for each child. Who can use the Tree ID Puzzle? It can be used in the home, by teachers and in the home-school. It can be blown up large and completed together by a class/group. It can be made into a centre activity by cutting out the individual words and pictures and allowing children to put the ones that go together next to each other. I suggest laminating the pieces to make them more durable. Answers provided.

Reading Comprehension - Spiders - Creepy Crawlies or Masterpieces?
Animals, Life Sciences, Science, Insects, Research, Reading, ELA, Reading Comprehension, Middle School, High School, Elementary, Homeschool Resources, Writing Prompts, Worksheets & Printables, Projects, Activities
Spiders, scientifically known as "arachnids," are fascinating to many people, especially kids. And there are so many different kinds. I learned a lot while creating this reading comprehension activities pack. Kids will read the article (link provided to the article inside product) and answer the questions. Many of the questions are fill in the blank, some are multiple choice, some true/false. There are also multiple essay question, writing prompts. And a bonus section for motivated students to look at what the Bible says about living things. Students will be given the opportunity to choose which side they are on regarding evolution vs creation, without judgment. They will be required to research and support the side they choose in their essays. Answer keys are included for the objective questions. The product is simple: 31 questions, including multiple choice, true/false, plus two short writing prompt type questions, one of which is partly subjective, but requires a thoughtful answer. Extra credit questions are included. 33 vocabulary words - can be used to increase student comprehension, increase scientific vocabulary, and can be used for alphabetizing and/or spelling tests. 8 Bible verse references - Bible as literature is an allowed subject in the public schools. Also, just looking up verses and drawing your own conclusions should align with standards. This activity is optional, of course. One bonus activity for students to write their thoughts on the 8 Bible verses. Two essay questions, one considered a "challenge." Can be used for extra motivated students or students who are trying to improve their grade. Of course, any writing a student does will build your writing fluency, especially when writing is done in a variety of fields, including, science, history, literature, etc. Answer keys for objective questions. My products are never grade specific, because students are at different levels even when they are at he same grade level in school. Probably 4th through high school would be the most appropriate. Product is downloadable, printable pdf.

Become A Sumerian Brick Builder
Social Studies, History, History: Ancient, Grade 6, Activities, Projects
If you're searching for a novel approach to teach your middle schoolers about ancient history, the Become a Sumerian Brick Builder will surely captivate them. This resource provides a hands-on STEM activity that is engaging, stimulating, and enjoyable. Explaining to my 6th grade students that the Sumerians were pioneers in brick building made little sense to them until they experienced it firsthand. They were tasked with creating their own mud bricks just as the ancient Sumerians did, and this tangible exercise enabled them to appreciate the intricate challenges these early brick builders faced. They delighted in bringing their homemade bricks to class and collaboratively constructing a Ziggurat. Their most favorite part, unsurprisingly, was the demolition of their creation. Rather than merely giving lectures, assigning textbook readings, and having students answer questions — which can be dull and off-putting — this activity stimulates active learning. The project incorporates a written assignment that students complete independently, which can be utilized for both History and English Language Arts grading. We are all aware that many students forget learned material shortly after they've been tested on it. This interactive project, however, is bound to leave a lasting impression, instilling knowledge they will carry with them long after they leave your class. Experts in the field underscore the benefits of project-based learning (PBL), stating that it is an effective and enjoyable way to acquire important skills needed for school and life success. While traditional education can often be viewed as dull and irrelevant, PBL engages students, making them active learners. Standards like Common Core stress the real-world application of knowledge and skills to enhance problem-solving capabilities. PBL not only deepens students' understanding of the content but also aids in longer retention compared to conventional teaching methods. Additionally, working in collaboration with others fosters character development. ⎈ I REMEMBER sitting in history class, as a student, and being bored out of my mind. The teacher just lectured and all I could do was look at the clock and wish that I was someplace else, ANYPLACE else! Needless to say I learned very little that year. I only began liking ancient history after Ibecamea 6th grade teacher, years later, and vowed that I would make it come alive for my children. I didn't want them to go through what I did. That negative experience gave me the impetus to use PBL learning in most of my teaching and I’m so glad I did. ⎈THIS RESOURCE can be used for⎈ ⎈ Gifted students ⎈ Middle school ⎈ World History classes/ELA classes ☼ Lighting the path to knowledge with enticing and exciting activities that they'll remember long after they've left your classroom ☼ ♥Other Teachers Purchased These Resources♥ Project Based History/Literacy What Is It Like To Be An Archaeologist?(6-10) Project Based History/Literacy...Hammurabi Code of Law Debate 6-8 Was King Tut Murdered?
