It's an excellent way to get your students investigating the concept of wind power and how it has advanced over the years. It is perfect for middle or high school students can be done individually or in partners. Here are two example questions that your students will find on the scavenger hunt webquest. Wind Energy Scavenger Hunt WebQuest Task: Research the following questions online. What is wind energy and what causes wind to occur? What are the basic components of a wind turbine and how do they work together to generate electricity? All answers are included and your package also includes my Wind Energy STEM Challenge which will allow your students to explore the world of wind energy in an engineering challenge. Here is a portion of the challenge. Objective: Design and construct a wind-powered car that can travel 2 meters (6.5 feet) using only the wind generated by a fan. Your car must stay within a designated track of 1 meter (3.3 feet) in width. Materials: · Cardboard sheets. · Paper (for the sail) · Dowels or skewers for axles and structure. · Tape or glue. · Scissors. · Ruler or measuring tape. · Fan to provide wind power and markers or paint for decoration. Design Constraints: · The car must be primarily made of cardboard and paper. · The only allowed materials for the car's movement are dowels for axles and a paper sail. · The car cannot have any electronic or pre-made propulsion systems (e.g., no motors, batteries). · The vehicle must have at least two wheels. · The car must be freestanding and move straight on its own once the fan starts. · Decorations are permitted but cannot contribute to the car’s propulsion.

There are 24 playing cards and 4 instructional/informational cards about bubble gum and brick brain (growth versus fixed mindsets). There is audio on every card so younger students do not need to know how to read. Students will learn about bubble gum and brick brains. This is the perfect extension activity after reading Julia Cook's Bubble Gum Brain. Bubble Gum Brain relates to the growth mindset and Brick Brain relates to the fixed mindset. Students will learn about the importance of a growth mindset and putting forth the effort to get better at skills. Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers Dice Game

This is a fun and easy game to add to your fractions unit to help students practice working with mixed numbers and improper fractions. Students must demonstrate knowledge of what makes an improper fraction, how to convert an improper fraction into a mixed number, and how to order and compare mixed numbers. I suggest using 10-sided dice (if possible) for a wider variety of outcomes. I encourage my students to use mini-whiteboards for recording their work and doing their calculations. Student Instructions: 1) You and your partner each roll the die two times so you each have two numbers. 2) Use your two numbers to make an IMPROPER FRACTION (which one should be the numerator?). 3) Write down your improper fraction and convert it to a mixed number. 4) Compare with your partner’s mixed number. Which number is bigger? You might have to find a common denominator if the whole numbers are the same. 5) The person with the larger number gets a point. Play until one person has five points. Grades to Use With: This is a simple game that can be an addition to a lesson or fraction review in grades 3-7 when students are working with fractions that have a value greater than one. Standards: CCSS3NF.A.3 Compare fractions by creating equivalent fractions CCSS4NF.A.2 Compare fractions by creating equivalent fractions- finding common denominators CCSS4NF.B.4a Fractions greater than 1 and multiplying fractions What's Included: A simple 2 Page PDF.
