The time before the holidays can get a little crazy in the classroom. Students are ready for a break and teachers are too! Keep your class engaged with EIGHT Days of math review! The ACTIVITIES are suitable for 5th grade and 6th grade. They are great for easy and fast sub plans. I use them as an 'end of the day carrot' that my students look forward to. They can't leave for the day without getting a step closer to finding Santa so it helps them to stay focused throughout the day so that we have time for the fun activity at the end of the day. One of the best parts: NO PREP required! This is not only great for distance learning but also great if you have run out of copies for the month and need a digital version fast... or if you just forget to make your copies for the week. (It's happened to me! - too. many things to keep track of) The pages do print beautiful in color and black and white if you have the time, but don't fret if you don't. Just assign it on Google Classroom - directions included. If you haven't taught the topic yet, it is a great mini lesson and if you have taught it, it can act as a review. Simply shuffle one of the sets and give each student one card. Give the students a moment to determine their card’s value. It will help your students practice adding and multiplying decimals while they shop to hit the target amount! The game includes 4 rounds with grocery shopping items for Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa holidays. Every round presents five food items to the students who practice estimating costs to manage a given budget. Whole class activity: This engaging exercise makes learning mathematical concepts more concrete than abstract learning alone. Students are shopping for a purpose! Realistic applications make education impactful and enjoyable for students, and math games are always a hit with my students! How to Use: This is a fun, whole class activity that you need to be able to project in your classroom on an interactive whiteboard. It is a Powerpoint presentation so you can move the boxes that cover the prices of each item after the students have guessed the price- just like on a real game show! You give your students a target budget (for example between $50-52). The smaller the budget range, the more challenging it will be. Students have to buy at least four of the items. Ask one student to choose one item at a time. The student guesses the price and chooses how many they want to buy of it. Then you reveal the price, all of the students students calculate how much they have spent, and you move on to the next item! Grades to Use With: This is a fun game for grades 3-6 when you are studying money, grocery shopping, and decimal operations. Even kids in middle school will have fun playing along! Next, invite the children to guess what activity is coming up. - Now tell your students that today they will reinforce the topic of multiplication in a playful and educational way. - Ask them to take out their pencils or markers. - Now hand out the worksheets and let the students or your children start solving. - If you want to make this activity more exciting, you can tell them that you will set a timer. 4.Grades or ages This game is designed for children from 7 to 10 years old, especially for children who have already learned multiplication and want to reinforce it. How to apply It is suggested that the teacher or parent, print 1 game for each student, because these activities will be done quickly and in a playful and fun way. Here's a quick and easy activity to practice multiplication facts, multiplication strategies, and the commutative property. Full instructions are provided. All students need are 6- or 10-sided dice and scrap paper or a whiteboard! Instructions: Here’s a fun way to practice multiplication facts with a friend. Roll several dice. Your job is to multiply the numbers in as many creative ways as you can. You and your partner take turns thinking of a new way to multiply the numbers. A player gets a point when their partner can not think of another way. Sample Game: Sue and Max are playing the medium level. They roll a 6, a 5, and a 2. Sue: 5x2 = 10x6 = 60 Max: 6x5 = 30x2 = 60 Sue: 6x2 = 12x5 = 60 Max might give up and Sue gets the point. Or, he could get creative and say 6x5 is the same as 5x5+5 = 30x2= 60 Then Sue might give up and Max gets the point. Grades to Use With: This game is a great way to practice multiplication facts in the intermediate and middle school grades (4-9). It could also be used in high school special education or in a grade 2/3 enrichment program. Standards: CCSS5.NBT.B.5 Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
