With this letter X sorting activity, students will practice letter recognition and distinguishing between capital letters and lowercase letters with this letter X sorting activity. This activity has a fox theme. This theme also works well for a woodland themed activity. This sorting activity is suitable for preschool and kindergarten students who are learning to recognize the letter V and to distinguish between capital letters and lowercase letters. Students can use this literacy center independently or in pairs to sort each letter to the correct mat. What is Included: One woodland capital letter sorting mat One woodland lowercase letter sorting mat 12 capital letter cards and 12 lowercase letter cards with a fox theme When to Use: Literacy Center Sorting Center Fine Motor Activity Small Group Activity Morning Tub or Basket Activity File Folder Activity Independent Practice Baking Tray Activity Skills Assessed: Letter Recognition Distinguishing between capital and lowercase letters Sorting Skills How to Play Place each of the mats side by side on a flat surface. Give the students the cards to sort into the correct sorting mat File Folder Game - Glue the mats inside a file folder, one on either side of the inside of the folder. Use loop and hook fasteners (if desired) to place the cards on the correct sorting mat. Baking Tray Game - Place the mats side by side on a baking tray. Place magnets on the back of the cards so they stick to the mats on the cookie sheet when sorted. This sorting activity is low prep. The teacher needs to print out the mats and card pages. The card pages need to be cut out so students can sort them onto the correct mat. The pages can be laminated if desired so that this sorting activity can be used over and over.

Intro to Metric Conversions – 5th Grade Math

This is a sixty - five slide lesson for 5th grade math student's introduction to converting within metric measurements. One of the first slides will show examples of the units for length, capacity, and mass. The staircase type chart for converting between metic measurements is shown with metric pre-fixes. The staircase uses a mnemonic sentence. I suggest you make a copy for students to have during the lesson. The metric prefixes are modeled with base ten blocks and then modeled with a number line. A flow chart type model is then used to show how to convert between metric units and when to multiply and when to divide. There are many examples for you to show students as well as several problems for them to do on their own. These models are then compared to the staircase and the slides talk about moving up and down the staircase which moves the decimal in the number. Finally more problems for students to complete using any of the devices shown in the lesson. This lesson covers the Common Core Standard 5.MD.A.1 Convert among different-sized standard measurement units within a given measurement system (e.g., convert 5 cm to 0.05 m), and use these conversions in solving multi-step, real world problems.
