6th Grade Math: Statistics and Probability Bundle: 4 Activities

6th Grade Math: Statistics and Probability Bundle: 4 Activities
Math, Statistics, Graphing, Money, Common Core, Grade 5, 6, 7, Worksheets & Printables, Word Problems, Activities

Do you need some new ideas for your 6th grade math unit to meet the Common Core State Standards for Statistics and Probability? Here is a ready-to-go bundle with four fun real-life activities to incorporate into your unit plan. 1) Statistical Questions: Students are taught what a statistical question is: a question that has numerical answers that vary.. 8 questions are included. Students need to identify if they are statistical questions or not. If they are, students think of how the data might be collected. If they are not, students explain what aspects of a statistical question are missing. Finally, students write 4 questions of their own (one should not be a statistical question) and they trade with a friend to see if they can identify the odd one out. 2) Dot Plots and Histograms: Students will collect numerical data through a survey and create their own dot plots and histograms to display their findings! This gives them a sense of ownership over their learning, and it is a great way to assess their skills! Discussion questions and self- assessment are included. 3) Math Stations: Statistics and Probability: Station 3 in particular has students create a dot plot and calculate the mean, median and mode of provided data. They can also do the probability stations if you want to address those skills. 4) Mean, Median and Interquartile Range of Hourly Wages: From a cashier to a taxi driver to an account to a CEO, students are given 10 realistic hourly wages. First, they create a histogram to display the data. Next, they write the wages in order from smallest to largest. They use this information to calculate the mean, the median, and the interquartile range. After that, they eliminate the outlier (the CEO wage) and recalculate the same statistics. Discussion questions are included. Grades to Use With: This bundle is designed for students in Grade 6, but can be used for Grade 5 enrichment, Grade 7 or 8 review, or high school special education classes. What's Included: 20 Page PDF with 4 Activities

CVC Reading Book 4
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Reading, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1,

CVC Reading Book 4 CVC Reading Book 4 is the fourth in a 16-book series designed to help beginning readers sound out simple consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words. Using a systematic, phonetic approach, the CVC Reading Books introduce common CVC word families in a strategic sequence to develop decoding, reading fluency, and confidence. Book 4 focuses on CVC words with short vowel sounds like "cat," "log," and "top." The story features farmer Tom, his family, and his animals. Minimal pictures allow young readers to gain meaning from the text instead of guessing. Only 5 key sight words are gradually introduced. These decodable readers work well with any phonics program. Special needs, ESL/EFL learners, and struggling readers often benefit from the methodical phonics instruction. The books have been tested with K-1 students, especially boys who tend to prefer the farm theme. Teachers use them whole group, small group, or as homework to supplement phonics lessons.

Letter L: PowerPoint and Worksheets: Lesson 12
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Kindergarten, Preschool, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables

Learn Initial Sounds L: Lesson 12 teaches the letter Ll and its related phonic sound through a 35-slide PowerPoint lesson, and 5 follow-up activity worksheets. All you need to teach the phonic letter L! Whether in school or at home, this series of phonic presentations can help you effectively teach initial/beginning sounds to all pupils, including those with special needs/dyslexia. This lesson is part of a synthetic, systematic phonics programme for all abilities including those suspected of being dyslexic. This lesson is in the first stage of the Reading Made Simple programme where we teach the initial, or beginning, sounds. The ability to hear the initial/beginning sound is stressed throughout, while we learn to associate each letter with its sound. Each lesson can stand alone but the activities will presume knowledge of the previous letters in the alphabet as Reading Made Simple teaches the initial sounds in alphabetical order. Special features of the Learn Initial Sounds L: Lesson 12 The PowerPoint is silent so that you can interact with your child in the best way for them: full instructions are provided at the bottom of each slide - be sure to show 'Notes'. The PowerPoint is editable so that you can make it fit your pupils. Science of Reading Aligned Truly phonetic; no 'i' for 'ice-cream'. We focus heavily on phonemic awareness which is so necessary for a head start in phonics The child is given plenty of opportunities to learn the necessary skills - perfection is not expected in lesson 1. Still, the teacher will look for the development of the necessary skills as the child works through the alphabet. What is included in the Learn Initial Sounds L: Lesson 12? A 35-slide PowerPoint which teaches phonemic awareness, letter/sound correspondence and letter formation along with practice games 5 follow-up worksheets How can the Learn Initial Sounds L: Lesson 12 be used? It can be used in multiple ways: As the child learns each sound, you can use the PowerPoint lesson to reinforce your lesson It can be sent home for a child to watch with his/her parents after being taught the letter Ll in class - this will then act as revision as well as training the parent as to what is necessary to help the child. Use in class Use at home by parents or for home education Suggested Method: Introduce each letter in turn to your pupil. Have a flashcard of the letter ready. Say each letter's sound to the child and ask him/her to repeat it thrice. Explain that some words begin with this sound. Give an example. Use the lesson as teacher training for yourself, to see how to teach your child, or use it with the child. Choose suitable activities (matching your child's ability) from the pack of worksheets. Notes are suggestions only - use language appropriate to your pupil and be sure to interact naturally. However, could you make sure that you focus on the child's hearing of the sounds at the beginning of words as this is much overlooked in the quest to help children learn the initial sounds as quickly as possible? Technical help: Use the PowerPoint in normal mode so that you can see the notes and use the 'Draw' tool when prompted. Some slides are interactive. This SL fun, Find and Color worksheet for beginning blends is excellent for acquainting children orally with initial consonant blends and helping them develop the necessary phonemic awareness in preparation for more advanced blending work, involving four phonemes. What is included in the pack? One PDF sheet for the SL blend. This is a sample of our pack of 20 activities covering common initial blends which can be found here in one PDF file: less clutter on your computer! What do the worksheets involve? Pupils are instructed to combine the two letters on the worksheet and then look for objects that start with that consonant blend. Then, these items ought to be coloured, leaving the others uncoloured. Children can easily work on the sheet unaided once they have been instructed, although, with those children with special needs, it is strongly suggested that an adult works with the child for maximum benefit. How to use The introduction of the concept of initial blends needs to be done thoroughly. When I work with children, especially those with a special need, I first like to teach children to blend two consonant letters. Then I work on developing the children's phonemic awareness: that being the ability to hear two consonant letters blended at the beginning of a word, easily. This is difficult for some pupils and takes a lot of practice. These worksheets can assist by first encouraging students to blend the two consonant letters and then by helping them to hear the blend at the start of a word. As often as you can, practice blending the letters in each initial blend and encourage the students to follow suit. I find that modelling is key at this stage. Who are the initial blends Find and colour worksheets for? Young learners Those with a special need Due to their non-babyish nature , they can be successfully used with older ESL/EFL pupils. Answer keys: The answer key is included on the sheet, in small print.
