SEL: WATERING CAN Mindfulness Breathing Calming Activity Teach students how to manage their emotions and calm themselves using the trace and breathe technique. This social-emotional learning (SEL) activity provides a watering can picture for students to trace with their finger while taking slow, deep breaths. Use after exciting activities to refocus students. Laminate pages for individual student use. Students can select a personalized picture from various themes like animals, foods, transportation, and spring. Steps include tracing the picture while inhaling, pausing, exhaling slowly, and repeating. Place in a classroom calm-down station. Also used for whole-class SEL when students need redirection.
