Sunflowers – Factual Interview Text, Glossary & Student Profile A differentiated reading activity on Helianthus annuus for grades 3–7 🌻📚 This resource offers a creative and low-prep way to introduce your students to one of the best-known summer flowers: the sunflower (Helianthus annuus). Using an age-appropriate factual text in the form of an interview, this lesson invites students to learn more about the plant’s features, growth, and significance – all while practicing reading comprehension and working independently. The main text is written as an interview with a sunflower, which makes the content more relatable and engaging for younger learners. It’s differentiated into two versions (standard and simplified) to support mixed-ability groups. A glossary is included for both versions to support vocabulary development and help students access the content on their own. What’s included: Factual text in interview form (2 levels of difficulty) Glossary for each version of the text Printable student profile to be completed after reading Photo of a sunflower (self-taken, for classroom use) Answer key for the profile Optional extension task for early finishers All materials in both full-color and black-and-white versions Format: PDF Classroom ideas: Start the lesson with the sunflower photo as a silent impulse or discussion starter. Use guiding questions like: “Do you know this flower?” or “What can you tell about it?” From there, you can assign the text to pairs or small groups – or have it performed by two students, one acting as the sunflower, the other as the reporter. It’s a simple way to add some movement and creativity to factual reading. The profile helps students consolidate what they’ve read, and the glossary encourages independent clarification of unknown words. For quick finishers, there's a short research task on the healing properties of sunflowers, offering a meaningful extension. This material works well as part of a science or language arts lesson and is also easy to use in a substitute lesson. No extra prep required – just print and start. 📍 Best wishes, Heike from @Lernfitness Did You Know? Watercolor Backgrounds – 10 Designs for Teaching Materials and Creative Projects (A4 Format) PNG + PDF Over the years, I’ve realized how much a soft and thoughtfully chosen background can influence the overall tone of a worksheet, project, or presentation. Especially when working with younger learners—or just trying to break away from the usual black-and-white documents—a watercolor-style background can make materials feel calmer, more inviting, and a little more special. This set includes 10 hand-designed watercolor backgrounds , all created by me in Procreate. They’re simple, versatile, and gentle in color, making them easy to combine with your own content—whether you're designing a worksheet, setting up a presentation, or putting together printable materials like task cards or signs. Each background comes in two formats : – PNG (with transparent or clean edges – ideal for digital work) – PDF (quick and ready to print) What you can use them for: – Designing worksheets or templates for student work – Presentation slides (PowerPoint, Keynote, Canva...) – Game cards or instruction sets – Greeting cards or classroom posters – Backdrops for reflection or writing pages – And much more I’ve personally used them for everything from laminated instructions at learning centers to cover pages for student portfolios. The soft watercolor look adds warmth without being distracting—and pairs well with both playful and more serious content. Usage notes: These backgrounds are available for private and classroom use , and you may also use them commercially within the educational field (e.g. in your own teaching materials), as long as your own content is clearly visible and credit is given (by naming me as the creator or linking to my store). Please don’t resell or distribute the files as standalone images. Have fun using these designs to give your materials a personal and creative touch. – Heike from @Lernfitness Did You Know? Sunflowers – Coloring Sheet | Helianthus annuus
STEM, Science, Life Sciences, Thanksgiving, Holidays, Holiday & Seasonal, Summer, Seasons, Biology, Nature & Plants, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, Activities, Worksheets & Printables, Teacher Tools, Projects, Presentations, Templates, Classroom Decor, Door Decor, Posters, Bulletin Boards
Sunflowers – Coloring Sheet | Helianthus annuus A simple activity to accompany science or seasonal lessons 🌻🖍️ This printable coloring sheet focuses on the sunflower ( Helianthus annuus ) and can be used to support lessons on plants, summer flowers, or as a quiet creative task in between more content-heavy subjects. It’s easy to integrate into primary classroom routines and works well as a one-lesson activity – no prep needed. The download includes two versions: one with a cheerful color frame and one in classic black and white, perfect for photocopying. Students can color the sunflower while reviewing what they’ve learned or as part of an introduction to summer plants and flower species. What’s included: One sunflower coloring page with decorative frame (PDF) Color version for digital or presentation use Black and white version for classroom copying I’ve used this sheet alongside our lesson on plant parts or after reading a short informational text about sunflowers. Some students like to label the parts of the flower directly on the page or write a short description on the back. It also works well in stations, during free work time, or in a substitute lesson when you need something calm and creative. If you’re working on a seasonal theme, this sheet pairs nicely with other sunflower materials – like nonfiction texts, vocabulary work, or mini research tasks. It helps younger students connect scientific observation with creativity and gives them a chance to slow down and focus. This resource is ready to print and use in class or at home. 📍 Best wishes, Heike from @Lernfitness Did You Know? Light and Dark PowerPoint
Holiday & Seasonal, Seasons, Fall, Spring, Summer, Winter, Science, Basic Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Teacher Tools, Presentations
This PowerPoint about Light and Dark can help children to begin to understand the relationship between all living things and the sun; our need for light and the sun. What does the Light and Dark PowerPoint teach? Simply explained, children will learn: Darkness is the absence of light The sun is the main source of light on Planet Earth It reminds pupils never to look directly at the sun The sun provides warmth too - or Earth would be very cold Why plants need the sun: to make food to help them reproduce Creatures that come out in the daytime (the need for survival) Shadows - how they are formed Plants and animals that prefer the shade and why (the need for survival) Creatures of the night, and why? Nocturnal (the need for survival) This PowerPoint is silent but comes with full narration notes, both under each slide for use in Presenter View, or as a PDF. Do: Relate the slides to your pupil's experience. The slower pace of a Powerpoint means that the teacher is control and can add or subtract material as is felt necessary. What is included? 135 slide PowerPoint PDF Narration notes More: Why not team the Light and Dark PowerPoint with our Seasons PowerPoint as they go together very well? https://teachsimple.com/product/the-seasons-powerpoint-ks1
