Hiroshima (2005): Complete Video Guide for BBC Documentary
Social Studies, History, History: USA, History: World, Grade 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Activities, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
When we dive into the 20th Century's key moments with our students, the deployment of the first atomic bomb undeniably stands out. Grasping the gravity of this event can be challenging, but there's a drama-documentary that's proven invaluable in my classroom to bridge that understanding. This isn't just a film—it's a journey back in time. Over three pivotal weeks, from the test explosion in New Mexico right up to the heart-wrenching moment the bomb descended on Hiroshima, the documentary offers an immersive experience. Through its lens, our students can: Step into the decision-making rooms, feeling the weight of the world on those leaders' shoulders. Sense the palpable tension aboard the Enola Gay. Witness the staggering force of the bomb's detonation. And, perhaps the most evocative of all, walk the streets of Hiroshima, absorbing the immediate aftermath. For those of us aiming to ensure our students don't just watch, but truly engage and reflect, the accompanying movie guide is a gem. With its 37 targeted questions, it not only directs attention to the crucial details but also fosters deeper thinking and classroom conversations. And, having a teacher's key on hand? It's been a game-changer for streamlining my prep. I can't recommend this documentary enough. It's not just about recounting historical events; it challenges students to think, question, and discuss the profound implications and differing perspectives surrounding the bomb's use. This print-ready movie guide is a straightforward addition to our toolkit, enhancing our efforts to bring history alive in the classroom. The movie is available on Netflix: Hiroshima BBC History The link is also available here: BBC History Thumbnail clipart from: clipartlogo.com

Romeo and Juliet (1996): Complete Movie Guide
ELA, Literature, Grade 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
The 1996 film adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic play, "Romeo and Juliet," directed by Baz Luhrmann, presents a modern and stylized retelling of the tragic love story. Set in Verona Beach, a fictional contemporary city, the film retains the original Shakespearean dialogue while infusing it with vibrant visuals, modern elements, and a fast-paced narrative. The film revolves around the forbidden love affair between Romeo Montague (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Juliet Capulet (Claire Danes), members of feuding families, who fall deeply in love at first sight. Despite the enmity between the Montagues and the Capulets, Romeo and Juliet secretly marry with the help of Friar Laurence (Pete Postlethwaite). As their love blossoms, the tension and violence between the two families escalate. Tybalt Capulet (John Leguizamo), Juliet's hot-tempered cousin, seeks revenge on Romeo for crashing a Capulet party. In a duel, Romeo's best friend, Mercutio (Harold Perrineau), is tragically killed by Tybalt. Driven by anger and grief, Romeo seeks vengeance and fatally wounds Tybalt, leading to his banishment from Verona. Desperate to avoid an arranged marriage with Paris (Paul Rudd), Juliet turns to Friar Laurence for help. The friar devises a plan to reunite the lovers by faking Juliet's death through a sleeping potion, allowing her to escape to Mantua with Romeo once she wakes. However, the plan goes awry when Romeo, unaware of the friar's scheme, believes Juliet to be dead and takes his own life beside her lifeless body. When Juliet awakens to find Romeo dead, she refuses to live without him and takes her own life with a dagger. The tragic deaths of the young lovers prompt the Montagues and Capulets to reconcile, ending their long-standing feud. The film's visual style combines a contemporary setting with lavish costumes, intense colors, and energetic camerawork. It also features a dynamic soundtrack that blends modern and classical elements, complementing the story's emotional moments. Luhrmann's adaptation captures the essence of Shakespeare's timeless tale of love, passion, and tragedy while bringing it into a modern context. "Romeo and Juliet" (1996) remains a visually stunning and emotionally powerful interpretation of the iconic play, showcasing the enduring power and relevance of Shakespeare's work. “A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life; Whose misadventur'd piteous overthrows Doth with their death bury their parents' strife.” Help your students get the most out of this amazing adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Alkali Metals Concept Wheel – Interactive Chemistry Activity for Grades 7–10 Learn Alkali Metals - visual learning 🧪🧠 This concept wheel is a practical way to help students understand the alkali metals in Group 1 of the periodic table. I first made it for a grade 8 class that was struggling with the idea of chemical families. Instead of giving them another chart to copy, I tried this wheel activity, and it worked much better because they could see and handle the information piece by piece. The wheel has eight sections that cover the basics: general properties, reactivity, how these elements appear in nature, and some everyday uses. Students cut out and arrange the pieces to build the full circle. The activity takes a little bit of preparation, but once the pieces are made, you can reuse them. I usually store the sets in small envelopes so they are ready for the next lesson. There are different versions included. Some circles are already filled in, which is helpful when introducing the topic for the first time. Others are blank, so students can write their own notes after a lab or reading assignment. I have used the blank ones during review sessions, and students liked comparing their wheels with a partner’s version. It also gives them a sense of ownership over the material. The wheel can be used in many ways: as a warm-up before a lab, as practice during a unit on the periodic table, or as a review before a quiz. It works for group tasks, but I have also had students complete it on their own. When the wheels are finished, they make a clear visual display for the classroom or for a student’s notebook. This activity is designed for grades 7–10 chemistry or physical science. It supports lessons on periodic trends, classification of elements, and the special role of the alkali metals. 📍 Best wishes, Heike from @Lernfitness Did You Know? Scientist Hans Krebs - Fact Sheet, Quiz & Interactive Version (PDF & H5P) Hans Krebs – Cellular Respiration and the Discovery of the Krebs Cycle Fact Sheet, Quiz & Interactive Exercises (PDF + H5P) 🔁🧬 This 45-minute resource introduces students in grades 10–12 to Hans Krebs – the scientist who uncovered one of the most important metabolic pathways in our cells: the citric acid cycle, also known as the Krebs cycle. When teaching cellular respiration, many students can follow the basics of glucose breakdown and ATP production – but the details of what happens in the mitochondria often feel abstract. Krebs' discovery in the 1930s helped explain how cells extract energy efficiently from food molecules through a cycle of chemical reactions. It’s a key part of understanding aerobic respiration and metabolism. To make this complex process more accessible, I’ve created a structured lesson that includes a short informational text, a fact sheet, quiz questions with answers, and a creative partner task. All materials are available in color and black-and-white, plus there’s a digital H5P version for interactive learning. What’s included: A student-friendly text about Hans Krebs and the citric acid cycle A fact sheet to help visualize and summarize the steps of the cycle Quiz questions (with answer key) for quick review or comprehension checks A creative task where students develop and exchange their own questions in pairs Formats: Printable PDF and interactive H5P 💻 Answer key included ✅ I’ve used this resource during our unit on cellular respiration, often right after glycolysis and before moving on to the electron transport chain. It’s especially helpful for students who benefit from breaking down complex processes into steps. The partner activity works well for revision or as preparation for assessments. 🚀 Download now and bring the legacy of Hans Krebs into your biology lessons today! 📍 Best wishes, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Sales Tax Worksheet: Financial Literacy, Life Skills, Percent Math
Life Studies, Home Economics, Finance, Percentages, Math, Decimals, Special Resources, Life Skills, Grade 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
This one-page worksheet is a quick and easy personal financial literacy and life skills lesson for your students who are in grades 6 and up. Make sure your students will understand what sales taxes are, what they are applied to, how to calculate them, and what the sales tax is in their local area. This is the kind of math and life skills learning that students will actually use for years to come. This lesson introduces your class to: The definition of sales tax. A variety of worldwide rates (that range from 0 – 25%) in places in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Which goods and services are exempt from sales taxes. Then, seven practice math questions are included for students to try calculating sales tax themselves. They could use a calculator, a variety of mental math strategies, or complete the questions by hand using percentages written as decimals. Finally, students are asked to research the local sales tax percentage in their local area. This lesson goes well with other personal financial literacy activities in my store: Taxes, Tips, Sales: This lesson teaches students three mental math or calculating strategies for figuring out applied percentages when faced with taxes, tips, and sale prices. Inflation This handout and worksheet teaches students what inflation is, how it is measured, how it varies, and why it matters. Then they can complete sample math questions about inflation using percentages. Renting vs Buying a Home This is one of my most popular lessons. It teaches students about the unrecovered costs that occur for both renting and buying homes and helps them calculate which might be a better deal in their local area. Income Tax Teach your students how to complete their income taxes in both Canada or the US. This comprehensive lesson includes definitions and information, three sample tax profiles, and a complete and simplified income tax form that high school students can easily complete!
