Fractions to Decimals – Number Line Cut & Paste
Math, Number Lines, Decimals, Fractions, Grade 4, 5, 6, Teacher Tools, Assessments, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Here’s a ready-to-go, visual assessment of your students’ understanding of decimal and fraction benchmarks! They simply cut and paste to show their comprehension of this topic. This is a great way for students with different ability levels (and English comprehension levels) to show their math knowledge: without being hampered by reading comprehension or written output challenges. This one-page assessment includes a number line from 0 to 1. Students first cut out 14 decimal and fraction pairs (common benchmarks like 1/2 and 0.333) and determine where they should be pasted on the number line. This ensures they know the decimal value of each fraction given and how to order them by size. For an extra challenge, 4 more fractions and decimals are given (such as 11/12- that are not familiar benchmarks). Students must estimate where they would be placed on the number line and glue them there. How to Use this Product: This product is designed to be a simple and quick assessment of fraction and decimal conversion, estimating, using a number line, and common fraction and decimal benchmarks. Of course, you could also use it as an activity in your unit, a homework worksheet, or a math centre. Grades to Use With: This product is well-suited for students in grades 4-6. It aligns to 4th Grade Common Core Standards in the United States and Grade 5 Mathematics Standards in British Columbia, Canada. Math Mini Unit: Real World Percentages: Converting Test Scores
Math, Percentages, Decimals, Fractions, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Math Mini Unit: Converting Scores into Percentages This ready-to-print booklet is a real world math tool for teachers of grades 5-8. The activities inside let students practice and apply their knowledge of percentages, decimals, and fractions practically: to convert their test and assignment scores to a common denominator of 100 so that they can easily compare their learning and growth across several tasks. I find that my students love learning this skill: it makes them feel mature and gives them ownership over their learning. How to Use: This 8-page booklet guides students to calculate their scores as percentages, offering them an interesting hands-on experience in crunching numbers. The mini-unit features various problem-solving methods supported by detailed visuals, explanatory notes, practice questions, and partner-focused activities. The content ranges from dealing with equivalent fractions with easily convertible denominators (10, 20, 25) to complex conversions involving more than one-step. Dividing the numerator by the denominator is also explored as a strategy to use with ANY test score. I go through the pages of the booklet with my students over several classes. We complete some practice problems together as a class, I allow some partner or small group work, and I also assign some questions for students to complete independently. Grades to Use With: This math mini-unit is particularly designed for middle school grades (5-8) or high school special education classes who are learning about the relationship between fractions, decimals, and percentages and real world applications of these skills. What's Included: This PDF includes an engaging and easy-to-follow 8-page student booklet, along with an instructional page exclusively for teachers—making it ready to use without any additional prep-work needed. Convert between Expanded, Standard and Word Format of Decimals
Common Core, Math, Decimals, Grade 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Understanding the base-ten number system and the concept of place value is strengthened by practicing conversions between different number formats, such as standard, expanded, and word forms. This process highlights the importance of each digit's position within a decimal number. The expanded form of decimals shows the sum of the values of each digit in the number. Writing decimals in an expanded form means writing each number according to its place value. Using fractions in the expanded form of decimals shows the value each digit represents and connects decimals and fractions. By breaking down the numbers in this way, it helps students to visualize and understand how digits combine to form larger numbers. To support this learning, this structured series of sets of worksheets consists of carefully sequenced practice materials that teachers can select based on student readiness. Each component builds upon previous knowledge: Foundation Skills: - Begin with expressing decimals in expanded fractional form as standard numbers - Progress to converting expanded decimal form into standard notation - Practice both skills with integrated exercises Intermediate Concepts: - Work backward from standard numbers to expanded fractional form - Transform standard notation into expanded decimal representations - Apply these skills with practical, real-world examples Advanced Applications: - Work with more complex multipliers to prepare for word problems - Read and write numbers expressed in words (available in two difficulty levels) Two regional variations exist for expressing numbers in words: 1. American style: "one hundred fifty-two" 2. British/Australian style: "one hundred and fifty-two" How many Worksheets in each Set ? Almost unlimited. At the click of a button all numbers are randomised, so the questions change every time. This will allow you to create as many new worksheets you will need for practice throughout the year (classwork, homework, revision, fillers etc) or even give small groups of students in your class different sets of questions either at the same level or differentiated. There will certainly be enough to ensure fluency in this topic. As these worksheets need little explanation, they are ideal if you need to leave work for a replacement teacher. Answers can be found on the second page of every worksheet, automatically generated when you create a new worksheet. Note These resources are PDF documents and work with the official Adobe Acrobat Reader on Windows or Mac computers with the randomising buttons also working via a touchscreen (PC or Mac) or on an Interactive Whiteboard. Percent Math Lesson: Calculating Taxes, Tips, and Sale Prices Here's a ready-to-go lesson for your middle school math unit on percentages. It encourages students to use multiple methods and mental math when calculating the tax, tip, or sale price for everyday transactions. This is one of the times you can easily say to your students, "You will use this math regularly in your life!" How to Use: Start with the handout, which goes through three simple methods for calculating percentages. Benchmark: An easy calculation strategy using familiar percentages like 1%, 10%, and 50%. Decimals: Calculating involves multiplying the amount by its matching decimal form percentage. Fractions: Division based on fraction equivalents is used for identifying certain percentage amounts. Tell your students that certain methods work best for certain situations. For example, the fraction method is great for 50% or 25% off. The benchmark method is easy when calculating a 10% tip. The decimal method works great for calculating 12% tax. Next, students have six real world math problems to tackle involving taxes, tips, and sale prices. They can use any of the strategies to solve any of the problems- they should choose the one that is the easiest to use for each scenario! Students can work individually or in pairs or small groups collaboratively. Grades to Use With: This lesson is perfect for grade 7 classes that are working on Proportional Relationships to solve multistep problems. It could also be used for enrichment in grade 6 or for a review and lesson about multiple strategies in grades 8 and 9. Finally, it could be used in high school special education classrooms. Multiplying and Dividing Decimals by Powers of 10
Common Core, Math, Decimals, Multiplication and Division, Grade 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
These sets of (virtually unlimited) worksheets on multiplying and dividing decimals by 10, 100, and 1000 is designed to help students understand and see the pattern in decimal point placement when multiplying or dividing by powers of 10, They start by using place value tables as a visual aid to illustrate the shift in digit positions when operating with powers of 10. Then the method commonly used of moving the decimal point is introduced, and then both methods of visual support are removed. This progression is repeated for multiplication and division by 10, then for 100 & finally for 1000. The resource is structured to support various learning styles and paces. There are separate worksheets for multiplication and division, as well as combined exercises that integrate both operations, allowing for targeted practice in specific areas of difficulty. There are also advanced worksheets that require learners to identify missing elements in equations, such as multiplicands, multipliers, dividends, or divisors as well as Word Problems mixing up multiplication a division by 10, 100 & 1000. In the last 3 sets, students are introduced to writing numbers with powers or indices, by investigating patterns connecting the various forms of writing powers of 10 then practice with mixed exercises and a final challenge. How many Worksheets in each Set ?
