Chernobyl: Interactive Website Activity

Chernobyl: Interactive Website Activity
Social Studies, History, History: World, Grade 7, 8, 9, 10, Activities

Chernobyl was a nuclear power plant in Ukraine, which had a terrible accident in 1986. An explosion and a fire happened in the reactor, which released a lot of radioactive material into the air. Radiation is a type of energy that can be harmful to humans and animals if they are exposed to too much of it. The radioactive material from the Chernobyl accident spread over a large area, and many people and animals were exposed to it. The radiation made some people very sick, and some even died from radiation poisoning. Many people had to leave their homes and never go back because the area was too dangerous to live in. After the accident, many countries worked together to try to clean up the area and make it safe again. They built a big structure called the "sarcophagus" around the damaged reactor to contain the radioactive material. People still work to make the area safer today. The Chernobyl accident was a tragedy, but it also taught us a lot about the importance of nuclear safety and the dangers of radiation. We continue to learn from it and work to prevent similar accidents from happening in the future. In this activity, students use the worksheet to explore the History Channel's Chernobyl website to find the answers to the worksheet . Students can work in pairs or individually to complete the task. This product comes with a complete teacher key. Ready to use - no prep!

This resource is a World History: Life in the Middle Ages | Feudalism | Document Based Activity . You are purchasing a Document Based Activity (GOOGLE and Traditional versions provided) that uses the Inquiry Approach Lesson Strategy. This activity is on the topic of Life in the Middle Ages, specifically focusing on the question: How did the growth of towns, and an economy based upon trade and commerce, impact daily life during the Middle Ages? What was daily life like for people that lived during this time period? In the Inquiry Based (or Mystery Strategy) approach students are confronted with a historical puzzle or FOCUS question to consider and they are also given historical evidence (excerpts from primary sources, photographs, charts, graphs etc.) that they use to solve the puzzle or answer the FOCUS question. Students start by expressing their own curiosity about the topic, then they explore, ask questions, and investigate for answers. Scientist Hans Krebs - Fact Sheet, Quiz & Interactive Version (PDF & H5P) Hans Krebs – Cellular Respiration and the Discovery of the Krebs Cycle Fact Sheet, Quiz & Interactive Exercises (PDF + H5P) 🔁🧬 This 45-minute resource introduces students in grades 10–12 to Hans Krebs – the scientist who uncovered one of the most important metabolic pathways in our cells: the citric acid cycle, also known as the Krebs cycle. When teaching cellular respiration, many students can follow the basics of glucose breakdown and ATP production – but the details of what happens in the mitochondria often feel abstract. Krebs' discovery in the 1930s helped explain how cells extract energy efficiently from food molecules through a cycle of chemical reactions. It’s a key part of understanding aerobic respiration and metabolism. To make this complex process more accessible, I’ve created a structured lesson that includes a short informational text, a fact sheet, quiz questions with answers, and a creative partner task. All materials are available in color and black-and-white, plus there’s a digital H5P version for interactive learning. What’s included: A student-friendly text about Hans Krebs and the citric acid cycle A fact sheet to help visualize and summarize the steps of the cycle Quiz questions (with answer key) for quick review or comprehension checks A creative task where students develop and exchange their own questions in pairs Formats: Printable PDF and interactive H5P 💻 Answer key included ✅ I’ve used this resource during our unit on cellular respiration, often right after glycolysis and before moving on to the electron transport chain. It’s especially helpful for students who benefit from breaking down complex processes into steps. The partner activity works well for revision or as preparation for assessments. 🚀 Download now and bring the legacy of Hans Krebs into your biology lessons today! 📍 Best wishes, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Unions Simulation

Unions Simulation
Social Studies, Government, History, History: USA, Grade 9, 10, 11, 12, Activities, Projects

Unions Simulation Teacher Guide Hello and thank you so much for purchasing my Unions Simulation! My students have really enjoyed this, and I have enjoyed seeing the concepts and familiar battle lines come to life. I hope your students enjoy it too! The lesson is designed to have a warm up, a goal statement, an agenda slide, a (very) brief overview of work conditions and famous strikes, then the instructions to the simulation, and then finally a quick exit ticket to cement major ideas. In general for the simulation, students are divided into one of three groups: bosses, strike-breakers, and union leadership. Each with their own desired outcome or goal. Begin by walking students through the warm-up, goal statement, agenda, and mini-lecture to refresh their minds on the era in question. To start the game , prompt the “Bosses” group to announce how much they plan to cut wages by. If needed, try to encourage the bosses to announce a pay cut in the range of $10-12/hour. This is a number that is acceptable to the replacement workers, but unacceptable to union leadership–starting conflict Next round, prompt replacement labor to negotiate with the bosses. Prompt the Union group to decide whether the pay cut is “acceptable” and if not, what actions could be taken. From there, let the simulation play out until it reaches an organic conclusion. My classes have ended a few different ways– the union getting arrested for threats of bombs, the unions accepting a pay cut to $13/hour, replacement labor being hired at $11/hour after several set-backs, etc. The key is students realizing the tenuous relationship between unions and their bosses, and union members and replacement labor. At the conclusion of the activity get students back in their designated seat, discuss the activity, and administer the exit ticket. These types of strategies have been researched and shown to improve student learning, especially for ELLs. When students participate in this activity, they are explicitly required to interact with both academic language and content at the same time. The process of transcription involves listening to verbal input and producing writing based on the information that is heard. Example: Player #1 will say (reading from their Transcription Script) "Write the equation of a line in slope-intercept form that is parallel to the line y=7x +2." Player #2 will listen and then write (recording on their answer sheet) y= 7x + (any number other than 2). HOW TO PREPARE MATERIALS FOR TRANSCRIPTION TIC-TAC-TOE Students work in teams of 2. One person is Player #1 and the other person is Player #2. Step 1:Print the Transcription Script for Player #1 back-to-back with the Transcription Tic-Tac-Toe Answer Recording Sheet for Player #1. Do the same for the two documents for Player #2. Each student gets their own copy of each of the two sheets. Step 2: Print copies of the Transcription Tic-Tac-Toe Board. Option #1: You will need one copy per team per round. There are enough questions for 3 rounds, so print 3 copies per team. Option #2: Laminate copies of the Transcription Tic-Tac-Toe Board and have student teams write on the laminated boards with dry erase markers. You will need one board per team. Option #3: Have students use a white board to play the Tic-Tac-Toe game. Option #4: Have students use a piece of regular notebook or printer paper to draw in their own Tic-Tac-Toe grid. HOW TO PLAY TRANSCRIPTION TIC-TAC-TOE Students work in teams of 2. If there is an odd number of students in your class, consider allowing a group of 3 in which two students share the role of Player #1. Player 1 begins and reads question 1 from their Transcription Script to Player 2. Player 2 listens to the the instructions and writes the answer on their own Answer Recording sheet. Player 2 is allowed to ask Player 1 to repeat the question as many times as is needed and reasonable. Player 1 checks Player 2’s answer using Player 1’s answer key. If Player 2 answered correctly, they get to play first on the Tic-Tac-Toe board by putting an ‘x’ or an ‘o’ in a space of their choosing. If Player 2 answered incorrectly, they lose a turn. Repeat the process with Player 2 now reading question #1 from their Transcription Script to Player 1. The first player to get three x’s or three o’s in a row wins that round. If neither player gets three in a row, that round is considered a tie. Continue switching roles back and forth, playing a new round once the previous round is completed or until all of the questions have been used. If students are able to, they can create their own similar questions and continue playing once they have used all of the questions that are provided.
