Health & Applied Bioscience: Reading Comprehension Passages and Questions (Google) This very engaging collection of science reading passages about The Truth about Drinks, Green Tea, and Plastic in Medicine is designed to bridge the gap between science and literacy through strengthening reading comprehension and sparking scientific curiosity in middle school students. Each passage blends English Language Arts skills with accurate science content that supports NGSS classroom practice. Ideal for interdisciplinary learning in ELA and Science. Suitable for Grade 9 review, too! What Is Included? There are (3) informational passages: The Truth About Drinks: Many popular drinks add a lot of sugar, caffeine, or artificial sweeteners without people noticing. Knowing what is in sports drinks, sodas, and energy drinks helps you choose water or low-sugar options more often. Green Tea: Ancient Drink, Modern Science: Green tea comes from an old tradition, but today it is studied for its helpful plant chemicals. It can support alertness and health, but it works best as part of overall good habits, not as a magic drink. Plastic in Medicine: From Everyday Uses to Life-Saving Care: Plastics made it easier to keep hospitals clean, since items like gloves, syringes, and IV tubes can be used once and thrown away. They also make medical tools lighter and safer, though all that single-use plastic has to be handled carefully. Student Tasks for Each Passage: 5 multiple-choice questions targeting main idea, key details, inference, vocabulary in context, and use of evidence 5 vocabulary matching items with clear, student-friendly definitions 5 text-based questions that require citing specific lines or facts 1 summary prompt that asks students to condense central ideas accurately Full answer key for every section Available Formats for this Resource PDF Word Docs FULL CATALOG OF DOWNLOADING LINKS HERE Reading Passage Links: Astronomy & Space Science PDF Word Docs Google Docs Volcanoes, Rocks, & Mountains PDF Word Docs Google Docs Rock Cycle, Soil, & Sinkholes PDF Word Docs Google Docs Mars, Glaciers, & Antarctica PDF Word Docs Google Docs Water Cycle, Acid Rain, & Wastewater PDF Word Docs Google Docs Insects, Animals, & Ecosystems PDF Word Docs Google Docs Bioluminescence & Insects PDF Word Docs Google Docs Animal Skin, Cats, & T. Cathedrals of the Middle Ages

Cathedrals of the Middle Ages
Social Studies, History, History: British, History: Europe, History: World, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Activities

Teach your students about the cathedrals of the Middle Ages with this engaging activity. LESSON GOAL Students understand the role that cathedrals played in the religious life of people during the Middle Ages. Sections in the reading texts include information on pilgrimages, the architecture of cathedrals, religious art, and relics. TEXT EXAMPLE "During the Middle Ages, local churches played a very important role not only in people’s religious, but also their daily lives. In most places people were actually required to go to church on Sundays by law. Those who refused could be fined or even imprisoned. Churches also provided baptism for newborn babies, marriages, and funerals. Merchants and traders often held markets around churches, paying a fee to do so. Christians during the Middle Ages were also encouraged to go on pilgrimages – religious journeys – to famous holy places. Many people travelled as far as the Holy Land to visit Jerusalem – the place where they believed Jesus had been crucified and then had risen from the dead. Other popular pilgrimage destinations included Rome – where many early Christian leaders had lived and died – and the Spanish city of Compostela." PROJECTS After completing their research, students are asked to create a poster advertising a cathedral and the different attractions it would have for visitors. Project sheets are provided in a variety of different formats for you to pick from. ADDITIONAL MATERIALS The file also contains image and crossword sheets as well as information sheets with more details about five of Europe's most famous cathedrals; Chartres, Canterbury, Lincoln, Westminster Abbey, and Durham

Teachers will appreciate the game's ability to encourage active participation and engagement in the classroom setting, catering to various student learning styles and promoting differentiated learning. By matching definitions to terms on their bingo cards, students actively engage with the material, enhancing their retention and comprehension of complex scientific theories. Here is a sample from the instructions. BINGO – Instructions, Terms, and Descriptions Cut out and distribute the BINGO cards to your students. Each student will get a unique card. Students can use markers or chips to cover squares that have been called. Print out and cut out each term/description below – these are the call-out cards. Fold each call-out card and place in a hat or box and remove one at a time. After you’ve read the call-out card description, your students are to place a marker on the term associated with the description located on their card. The first student to get 4 in a row horizontally or vertically, wins. Ensure accuracy by checking marked terms on student card to the called-out descriptions.
