Beginning and Final Blends Flashcards
ELA, Phonics, Language Development, Pre-Reading, Special Education Needs (SEN), Special Resources, Grade 1, Flashcards, Worksheets & Printables, Games, Activities
Beginning and Final Blends Flashcards with pictures A set of beginning and final blends with both letters and matching pictures. This set covers the following beginning blends: sw, sk, st, sp, sl, sn, sm, bl, be, cl, cr, dr, fr, fl, gr, gl, pl, pr, tr, tw And the following final blends: ft, lk, nd , nt, mp, st, lt, sk, nk This set of consonant blends flashcards contains the blends a child will most likely need for their current reading/spelling level, if they are just learning to hear four sounds in a word with a short vowel sound. Once a child meets more advanced vocabulary, the child’s ability to decode will be such that they will no longer need consonant blends flashcards - the skill will be more or less automatic. A child does not need to know every consonant blend by heart. What is needed is the ability to hear the two sounds in a blend to spell and to blend two consonants to read. Phonemic awareness of the blends is a good place to start. How to use the Beginning and Final Blends Flashcards with pictures: ·If you print the letters and their matching pictures back to back, you will have a set of self-correcting cards with which a child can practice reading the consonant blends. ·If you print the letters and pictures separately, then you can let the child match letters to pictures, selecting just as many as the child can cope with, at a given time. For some children, learning the consonant blends is not an easy skill, so it may be advisable, once the child has an idea of what is needed, to move on to the next skill, as there will be plenty of opportunities to practice the blends as the child progresses through a phonic programme.

Antoine Laurent de Lavoisier – Exploring the Father of Modern Chemistry A structured reading and worksheet resource for grades 8–10 (PDF + H5P) ⚗️📚 A printable and digital resource for grades 8–10 science and cross-curricular teaching 🧪🧠 This classroom resource gives students the chance to learn about Antoine Laurent de Lavoisier, the scientist often referred to as the “father of modern chemistry.” Known for his work on the conservation of mass and his role in naming elements like oxygen and hydrogen, Lavoisier helped shape the way we think about matter and chemical reactions today. The material combines a clear, student-friendly text with structured tasks to support understanding and engagement. It’s designed to be flexible enough for regular science lessons, independent study, or even substitute teaching—no special background knowledge is needed. What’s included: Informational text about the life and work of Antoine Lavoisier Profile worksheet for summarizing key points Quiz questions with complete answer key Two optional follow-up activities: – Students write their own questions based on the text – Partner exchange and answer Formats: – PDF (print or digital use) – Editable DOCX (text only, no design) – H5P (interactive version for digital platforms, no images) In the classroom: This resource works well alongside lessons on chemical reactions, the law of conservation of mass, or the history of scientific discovery. I’ve used it both as an introduction to a new unit and as a quiet reading activity when students needed structured but independent work. The H5P version is especially useful for blended learning or homework, allowing students to check their answers and work at their own pace. A practical way to link modern scientific concepts to one of their earliest thinkers—with no extra prep required. Have fun exploring the world of science with your students! The playful, structured format builds problem-solving, attention to detail, and fine-motor control while reinforcing themed content in a motivating way. Most pages include a tiny follow-up box—students draw or label 2–3 target words from a small word box, add a quick count, or color in the scene—so the activity reinforces both content and skills in a highly engaging format. Each completed set includes: A themed maze page. A simple student instruction strip. An answer key showing the solved path for teacher support or self-checking Themes Included These mazes cover a wide range of fun, age-appropriate themes, including: Seasons & Holidays (e.g., Halloween, Easter, Valentine’s Day) Math-Lite Connections (e.g., quick counts, number words) Everyday Topics (e.g., Animals, Weather, School) Special Units (e.g., Health, Earth Day, Sports, Kindness) Each topic reflects students’ real-life experiences and interests while strengthening problem-solving, visual scanning, and fine-motor control in a playful, highly visual way. Easy extensions (optional): Time it: solve once in pencil, then try to beat the time in pen Retell the route using sequence words (first, next, then, finally) Count intersections or turns and graph the results Write a 1–2 sentence mini-story about the scene using the target words Design a tiny maze in the corner for a partner to solve Differentiation tips: Offer a finger-trace pass before pencils for emerging learners Highlight the borders of the correct region on first attempts Use thicker-line versions or simpler pages to build confidence Pair roles: “navigator” gives directions; “driver” traces the path For similar downloads and other frees, do check out Cored Group on TeachSimple.
