Consonant Blends Phonic Games

Consonant Blends Phonic Games
ELA, Language Development, Phonics, Reading, Spelling, Kindergarten, Preschool, Games, Activities

Here are five phonic games to help in the teaching of consonant blends. Many children struggle with consonant blends, but these games can help take the stress out of learning! All children like a game- not least for the one to one time with an adult! How to use The games are easy to make and easy to play, needing no other equipment than in some cases a feely bag/little box in which to put cards. Simply print out the pages needed for each game and play - print and play. To make the games last longer, I suggest laminating the boards and the picture/letter cards as appropriate. What is included? Game 1: Match each blend to the picture that begins with it. Game 2: Cut up the word cards and take it in turns to find the consonant blend missing letter cards - either of an initial or final blend. Game 3: Find the missing letter of an initial blend Game 4: Find the initial blend for each word card Game 5: Read and match the CVCC word with a short vowel sound to the picture Who are these games for? Children of all abilities will love these games . They have been tried and tested on many children. They were devised by a teacher with many years of experience in teaching children of all abilities to read and spell with phonics. They are best played one-to-one with an adult so that the adult can model sounding out and reading words with a consonant blend. Once a child is more confident, two children can be asked to play together while an adult supervises. As the children play these games , the sie teacher will observe the reading and spelling strategies being used by the child to ensure that the child is noy learning to guess. Phonic games help to take the stress out of learning so they are great for pupils with special needs (including those with dyslexia) who need that bit of extra practice.

This skit brings to life the dramatic events of the summer of 1588, showcasing the importance of England’s victory over the Spanish Armada in the English Channel. There are many roles for your students. And if you have students that are less inclined to volunteer for skits, they can be Spanish or English sailors. For added fun, they can throw "paper balls" at each other during the Battle of Gravelines scene, making the experience both educational and entertaining. This includes part of the famous speech given by Queen Elizabeth I during the height of the battle. Most importantly, the skit ends with a review of why this battle was important - First, the power of Spain begins to slowly decline while England's star begins to rise. Secondly, Spain will no longer be able to stop the English from establishing colonies - or a foothold - on the North American continent. Jamestown will be established within 20 years. I use this skit to enhance my lesson on The English Come to North America , helping students understand the historical roots of England’s presence in the New World. Lasting about 10–15 minutes, it’s a great supplement to your curriculum as well!

My Parents are Getting Divorced Social Story

My Parents are Getting Divorced Social Story
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Social Skills, Special Education Needs (SEN), Not Grade Specific, Activities

Divorce can be an extremely confusing and emotional time for children. This social story resource aims to clearly explain what divorce means and what to expect in a reassuring way to help ease a child’s worries. The story uses direct, simple language and visual supports. The social story defines divorce in concrete terms as parents living in separate homes without being married anymore. It emphasizes that divorce is between the parents, not the child, and that both parents still love the child and will take care of them, even though they don’t live together. Common changes like moving between two homes and having different routines are covered. The story validates the difficult emotions the child might experience like sadness, anger, or confusion. It outlines how to verbalize feelings and who to talk to if needing support during this transition. The story has a reassuring tone throughout, communicating the consistency and care the child can rely on. Visual supports reinforce the narrative. The direct explanations and matter-of-fact delivery help take some of the uncertainty and abstractness out of divorce. Knowing what to expect reduces anxiety. This social story resource thereby facilitates comprehension and adaptation for children on the spectrum facing the complex life change of parental divorce. It teaches the social-emotional skills these children require to navigate this challenge. These books should be used over and over to reinforce the point so I would suggest either putting the pages into a display book or laminating and binding them.
