GL Blend Find and Colour Phonics Worksheet to Develop Phonemic
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Kindergarten, Preschool, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
This GL fun, Find and Color worksheet for initial blends is excellent for acquainting children orally with initial consonant blends and helping them develop the necessary phonemic awareness in preparation for more advanced blending work, involving four phonemes. What is included in the pack? One PDF sheet for the GL blend. This is a sample of our pack of 20 activities covering common initial blends which can be found here in one PDF file: less clutter on your computer! What do the worksheets involve? Pupils are instructed to combine the two letters on the worksheet and then look for objects that start with that consonant blend. Then, these items ought to be coloured, leaving the others uncoloured. Children can easily work on the sheet unaided once they have been instructed, although, with those children with special needs, it is strongly suggested that an adult works with the child for maximum benefit. How to use The introduction of the concept of initial blends needs to be done thoroughly. When I work with children, especially those with a special need, I first like to teach children to blend two consonant letters. Then I work on developing the children's phonemic awareness: that being the ability to hear two consonant letters blended at the beginning of a word, easily. This is difficult for some pupils and takes a lot of practice. These worksheets can assist by first encouraging students to blend the two consonant letters and then by helping them to hear the blend at the start of a word. As often as you can, practice blending the letters in each initial blend and encourage the students to follow suit. I find that modelling is key at this stage. Who are the initial blends Find and colour worksheets for? Young learners Those with a special need Due to their non-babyish nature , they can be successfully used with older ESL/EFL pupils. Answer keys: The answer key is included on the sheet, in small print.

"On Nationalism": Regents Global 10 CRQ +Video Lessons
Social Studies, History, History: World, Grade 10, Teacher Tools, Assessments
Regents Global 10 CRQ "On Nationalism" +Video Lessons This product is a constructed-response question (“CRQ”) in the format of the new New York State Regents examination in Global History and Geography. The CRQ calls upon the student to examine historical sources (I use exclusively primary sources) by providing historical or geographic context, identifying the point of view, intended audience, or purpose of a document and then using the two documents in either compare-contrast, cause-effect analysis, or turning point identification. I advocate a strategy of assigning one CRQ in each unit of study in grades nine and ten without access to notes. I used this as one of the tests at the end of a unit of study. I would tell students about what kinds of documents would appear and what historical context they should be able to recall in advance. It is a challenging task for them. The first challenge for novices is to understand what it means to provide context. Faced with the question “What is the historical context of this document?”, beginners will retell what the document says. The reason for this mistake is that, since they were little kids, teachers have asked them to relate what a text means to prove they understood it. [ Read more at the Innovation blog ] Product includes: 1. Student version 2. Teacher version with suggested answers 3. Passcode to video lessons students can use to prepare the task. Documents: Imperial proclamation, Jan 1871, German Empire Program of Count Cavour Reflections on the formation and distributions of wealth, Turgot Sieyes: What is the Third Estate? Lyddie by Katherine Paterson, Socratic Seminar Questions
ELA, Reading, Reading Comprehension, Writing, Creative Writing, Literature, Grade 6, 7, 8, Worksheets & Printables, Novel Studies
Lyddie by Katherine Paterson is a deeply moving novel set in the 1840’s that tells the story of Lyddie Worthen, a young girl who lived in a remote area of Vermont. Because of family difficulties she traveled to Lowell, Massachusetts where she gained employment working in a mill and living in corporate housing. In many instances throughout the book she faced difficulties (including an encounter with a bear inside of her home, as well as an unjust firing from the mill factory), but she stood strong and returned to Vermont and her childhood home with her head held high, as she looked towards the bright future that lies ahead of her. This PDF file of Socratic Seminar Questions contains 45 carefully crafted queries on 13 pages. The first twelve pages contain either three or four questions, while the thirteenth page asks students for one concluding, summative response which requires a more detailed answer. All of the questions can be used to facilitate in-class discussions about the novel. In addition, the Socratic Seminar Questions can also be used for other purposes, such as homework assignments or classroom quizzes , and the pages will help teachers gauge whether or not the students have read and understand the specific sections of the novel. An answer key, including Common Core Standards for Reading and Writing for grades seven and eight, follows the 13-page section of student questions. It is my hope that these Socratic Seminar Questions will be helpful to teachers who present Katherine Paterson’s Lyddie to their students, and I believe that as the students read the novel they will find that the questions help them develop critical thinking skills in English and Language Arts. If you find that these questions are helpful to your students, please contact me with the names of other novels that you use in class and I will see if I could write questions for those books. My email address is: gary.ciesla@gmail.com. Thank you.
