This activity allows students to discover the properties of midsegments of triangles. The activity is followed by two examples; one to be done as a class and the other is designed for the individual student. Each student or group will need 2-3 sheets of construction paper (any color). Topics are varied and are accompanied by colorful graphics. Topics are meant to educate, yet entertain the modern student. These passages are perfect for the modern classroom. Whereas textbooks can become outdated in no time, any changes to technology or the world will result in updates to this product. Mixed Questions The mixed questions section of each lesson includes a variation of five comprehension, vocabulary and math questions. In addition, key reading strategies are frequently covered including cause & effect, summarizing, compare & contrast and making conclusions. Two or three of the questions will be MCQs and other questions will require a written response of some kind. Full answers and example responses appear at the end of the lesson. Spelling & Vocab Each reading passage contains a variety of words and phrases designed for Grade 4-5 students. Spelling and vocab activities provide the opportunity to build fluency with these words. As it can become quite mundane doing the same activities over and over, each lesson in a set will contain a different spelling and vocab activity . Activities include: spelling games, sentence match-ups, mixed-up text and decoding words from the lesson. Writing Prompts Writing prompts are designed to continue the theme or lessons learned in the story. Students are persuaded to write in a variety of ways and each prompt includes several cues to help. As with the spelling/vocab section, writing prompts will vary. This includes research pieces, reading responses, poetry and creative writing prompts. Full Answer Keys Full answer keys and sample responses are provided so no matter how busy you are, you know you're covered! Mixed question answers provide evidence from the text, math questions contain the relevant workings. Answers are designed for use by the teacher, but also suitable as a handout to the student. Just for Fun Each lesson will have a bonus extension exercise. This is something fun to extend the lesson with. You can find these at the end of each lesson, titled Just for Fun. Science Coloring Pages: Common Frog Here is an original drawing of a Common Frog for young children to colour. The study of the natural world is the foundation for the later study of science. The colouring of pictures of natural things, be it plants or animals is more than a pastime activity. It is a means of familiarising young children with these everyday subjects. The colouring of this Common Frog picture can of course be used as a pastime, or even as part of a creative lesson - the picture looks super framed - but it has the potential to teach much more. The UK National Curriculum for Science expects children to be taught to use the local environment to study plants and animals, throughout the year. What better than to use familiar subjects, such as the Common Frog, which is a familiar subject in springtime, to teach much about the natural world? Colouring can help children to become familiar with the parts of the Common Frog: ask questions: What colour are the legs? Can you see the stripes? How many legs does the frog have? Colouring a picture of the Common Frog can also help children to become familiar with the particular characteristics of a frog - its shape, and special features, for example. It is best if children colour the Common Frog picture either following a sighting of a frog or from reference books - whenever their interest is aroused! With this Olympic Themed Editable Birthday Banner resource you can create your own decorative banners using these templates. There are great to list your student's birthdays to celebrate them every month! With the Olympic Rings around them, these banners are a win-win for your class. Because they are editable, you can type your student's names in whichever font you'd like for these to stand out. I print them on card stock, laminate them, and write the names of students and their birthdays on each month with permanent marker. Then at the end of the year, I color over the names with expo marker, clean them off, and use the same banner again the next year. These were design to display student birthdays, but can be used as a classroom banner , to highlight words or letters of the month, holidays, or upcoming events. Since this is an editable resource, teachers are able to write on the banners anything they need. To have a long-lasting resource, print these off and laminate them to use them as a banner . You can write students names on them, or you can use it as a clip chart. There are three different font choices available. To make them last longer, print them on card stock. Labels are not designed to fit any specific page of pre-made adhesive labels. I print on card stock, laminate, and cut. These are found throughout my classroom in pocket folders, taped to cubbies, identifying lockers and desks, identifying contents of task boxes, book bins, and everything else. I have also used full-page adhesive labels and then cut. Use matching or coordinating labels and binders (see my other products) to help unite different colors and objects in the room. Overwhelmed by the thought of organizing? Don't try to do it all at once. Start with 5 labels a week. That is manageable and makes a difference. The hardest part is getting started!
