This is a series of 22 graded, decodable phonic reading books with 10 matching workbooks , one for each sound taught. They are highly structured to enable every child of all abilities to succeed as a reader. They teach a child to read using words with the common digraphs ck, oo, ee, sh, ch, th, ng, ing, ar. These books form part of the Reading Made Simple phonic reading programme. They follow the: CVC Words Reading Books Consonant Blends Reading Books These books are intended to be read in sequence and come with instructions on how to teach each new sound and how to hear a child read. Beginners need a structured phonics approach and gradual progression - these books provide that support. What is included? 22 PDF reading books 10 matching phonic workbooks 1 PDF of instructions and supporting resources ( flashcards , dictations and wordlists) Main features: Most words can be sounded out using the necessary phonic knowledge. We introduce one phonic sound at a time. Previously taught sounds are constantly reviewed, so allowing the child to build reading fluency. Sight words are introduced gradually, but only those that cannot be learned in a phonetic family, or will be needed before the family has been studied. •Pictures make up for the lack of words, while not encouraging guessing. •Each book tries to tell a simple story. •Each book has been tested on children with severe special needs and those with none – all have loved them as they can read them! •The books should be read in order as words from all five vowel families are gradually introduced, starting with those in the /a/ family. 5 matching workbooks to consolidate learning and to help children to integrate their new reading and spelling skills into everyday literacy. Proper punctuation is only used in the last three books. If you are looking to practice Fry's sight words, then this is without a doubt the resource for you and your students. In this resource, Fry's Sixth 100 Sight words are all featured. First of all, this set consists of a bunch of flash cards. These cards come in different styles, colored and with or without sharp edges. Just choose the set that is right for you. Then Print, laminate, and cut the cards as you please. The next way to practice these sight words is with the vocabulary lists. There is one that shows all of these words in alphabetical order, while the other list shows each word in order of frequency. And then there is the fill in the blaks worksheet. With this you can really test your students to see if they remembered all of the words and their usage. Finally, use the word search to practice these words in a more fun way. Have fun!

Reading Intervention for Struggling Readers: Book 7:

This Reading Intervention for Struggling Readers: Book 7 helps children to use their knowledge of split digraphs, AI, EA and OA to read longer passages and apply their phonic knowledge to new vocabulary whilst ensuring comprehension. This book is the seventh in a series of books written to provide intervention for struggling readers using decodable reading books, written to build confidence and help the child attain fluency and comprehension. This book is useful for reading intervention for older pupils, maybe even of 11+ who are struggling to read fluently, but who have a smattering of phonic knowledge but with gaps. It revises split digraphs, AI, EA and OA words giving the child a familiar base on which to build. It follows: Book 1 CVC Words Book 2 Consonant Blends Words Book 3 More Consonant Blends Words Book 4 CK word Book 5 OO Words Book 6 Revise CK and OO with added extra basic vocabulary Who is this book for? Older pupils who can read, but who have a reading age well below their chronological age. Such children may struggle to read simple text with accuracy/fluency and thereby lack comprehension. It is not for pupils who are just beginning to read with phonics. Please see my Graded reading books for such pupils. It is convenient enough for parents to use with their children, as well as for use by teachers and private tutors. Outline and steps Having secured a child's blending skills with three and four sounds in books 1 to 3, and practised CK and OO words, we now start to extend the child's ability to decode new words using split digraphs, AI, EA and OA. Assess the whole time as the child reads: if the child stumbles on a word, make a note to revise that phonic sound before continuing to the next book. I find that often these children need help distinguishing between similar words, such as back and black, and by retraining the child to read accurately using these simple texts - that do not look babyish - and then rebuilding from the bottom up, much progress can be made. I thought that my pupils would look with disdain at these books. I found the opposite; they were so relieved that at last somebody had actually given them a book they could read! Simply print on A4 paper, two on a page. Cut into individual A5 pages, and staple or bind them together to make a book. Purpose These books have been written and tried and tested on some of my older pupils (mainly boys I admit), and they have proved very helpful. Most of my pupils have a dyslexic type problem, involving poor processing skills and have had years of failure. They must build a secure foundation for reading ability to build upon. These books, used as described, will help to build that foundation. I am finding an increasing number of such pupils desperate for help. You can help, too! Learn Initial Sounds J: Lesson 10 teaches the letter Jj and its related phonic sound through a 35-slide PowerPoint lesson, and 5 follow-up activity worksheets. All you need to teach the phonic letter I! Whether in school or at home, this series of phonic presentations can help you effectively teach initial/beginning sounds to all pupils, including those with special needs/dyslexia. This lesson is part of a synthetic, systematic phonics programme for all abilities including those suspected of being dyslexic. This lesson is in the first stage of the Reading Made Simple programme where we teach the initial, or beginning, sounds. The ability to hear the initial/beginning sound is stressed throughout, while we learn to associate each letter with its sound. Each lesson can stand alone but the activities will presume knowledge of the previous letters in the alphabet as Reading Made Simple teaches the initial sounds in alphabetical order. Special features of the Learn Initial Sounds J: Lesson 10 The PowerPoint is silent so that you can interact with your child in the best way for them: full instructions are provided at the bottom of each slide - be sure to show 'Notes'. Science of Reading Aligned Truly phonetic; no 'i' for 'ice-cream'. We focus heavily on phonemic awareness which is so necessary for a head start in phonics The child is given plenty of opportunities to learn the necessary skills - perfection is not expected in lesson 1. Still, the teacher will look for the development of the necessary skills as the child works through the alphabet. What is included in the Learn Initial Sounds J: Lesson 10? A 33-slide PowerPoint which teaches phonemic awareness, letter/sound correspondence and letter formation along with practice games 5 follow-up worksheets How can the Learn Initial Sounds J: Lesson 10 be used? It can be used in multiple ways: As the child learns each sound, you can use the PowerPoint lesson to reinforce your own lesson It can be sent home for a child to watch with his/her parents after being taught the letter Jj in class - this will then act as revision as well as training the parent as to what is necessary to help the child. Use in class Use at home by parents or for home education Suggested Method: Introduce each letter in turn to your pupil. Have a flashcard of the letter ready. Say each letter's sound to the child and ask him/her to repeat it thrice. Explain that some words begin with this sound. Give an example. Use the lesson as teacher training for yourself, to see how to teach your child, or use it with the child. Choose suitable activities (matching the ability of your child) from the pack of worksheets. Notes are suggestions only - use language appropriate to your pupil and be sure to interact naturally. However, could you make sure that you focus on the child's hearing of the sounds at the beginning of words as this is much overlooked in the quest to help children learn the initial sounds as quickly as possible?
