Model one matching method (picture-to-picture, picture-to-word, or write-the-word) before opening the center for independent use.

Use the printed word already on each piece as a built-in self-check when students try the write-the-word option.

Rotate the four matching methods across the week so the same 18 rhyme pairs support several different center sessions.

Rhyme recognition — matching pairs such as van/pan, cat/bat and duck/truck by ending sound.

Word-picture correspondence — matching a picture to the printed word of its rhyming partner rather than another picture.

Independent spelling check — writing a rhyming partner word from a picture prompt, then verifying it against the printed word.
