If you are looking to practice Fry's sight words, then this is without a doubt the resource for you and your students. In this resource, Fry's Eighth 100 Sight words are all featured. First of all, this set consists of a bunch of flash cards. These cards come in different styles, colored and with or without sharp edges. Just choose the set that is right for you. Then Print, laminate, and cut the cards as you please. The next way to practice these sight words is with the vocabulary lists. There is one that shows all of these words in alphabetical order, while the other list shows each word in order of frequency. And then there is the fill in the blaks worksheet. With this you can really test your students to see if they remembered all of the words and their usage. Finally, use the word search to practice these words in a more fun way. Have fun!

Digraphs TH: Read and Colour

This fun, Read and Color worksheet for TH words is an excellent means of encouraging children to become familiar with a new digraph. The child will be scanning the picture for each word as it is coloured and colouring according to the code given. The child will be thrilled by the finished picture! What is included in the pack? One PDF sheet for the TH digraph. What do the worksheets involve? An adult should instruct pupils as to how to colour-code the words, by the code given. An adult will need to help with this as the children are not expected to be able to read the colour names. The child should then read the words to an adult (you will want to ensure they get it correct the first time and not make mistakes). The child colours the picture, reading the words and checking against the code to see which colour to each shape. Children can easily work on the sheet unaided once they have been instructed and the words colour-coded, although, with children with special needs, it is strongly suggested that an adult works with the child for maximum benefit. How to use As each new blend is introduced the teacher has several aims: The child should be thoroughly familiar with the new digraph - to recognise it wherever it is seen; To be able to track the new digraph in words; To be able to decode words containing the new digraph easily. This fun read and colour activity provides help for all three! Pupils will need as much practice as they can to achieve the three things listed above and for some children, this can be tedious; the teacher must think of creative ways to give as much repetition as needed and to keep the child engaged. This fun Read and Colour sheet is ideal as a new way to engage the child: the child will be reading and re-reading and in doing so may even become familiar with the words, which will aid reading fluency. Who are the initial blends Find and colour worksheets for? Young learners Those with a special need Due to their non-babyish nature , they can be successfully used with older ESL/EFL pupils. Reading Intervention for Struggling Readers: Book 8:

This Reading Intervention for Struggling Readers: Book 8 provides an easy-read story with four chapters, helping the pupil to begin to carry meaning from page to page and chapter to chapter. Review questions help the teacher check for comprehension. This book is the eighth in a series of books written to provide intervention for struggling readers using decodable reading books, written to build confidence and help the child attain fluency and comprehension. This book is useful for reading intervention for older pupils, maybe even 11+ who are struggling to read fluently, but who have a smattering of phonic knowledge but with gaps. It builds on the vocabulary of the books that have gone before. giving the child a familiar base on which to build. The large, clear font and short paragraphs help those with visual tracking difficulties. It follows: Book 1 CVC Words Book 2 Consonant Blends Words Book 3 More Consonant Blends Words Book 4 CK word Book 5 OO Words Book 6 Revise CK and OO with added extra basic vocabulary Book 7 Split digraphs, AI, EA and OA Who is this book for? Older pupils who can read but who have a reading age well below their chronological age and struggle to read simple text accurately and fluently, thereby lacking comprehension. It is not for pupils who are just beginning to read with phonics. Please see my Graded reading books for such pupils. It is convenient enough for parents to use with their children and for use by teachers and private tutors. Outline and steps Having secured a child's blending skills with three and four sounds in books 1 to 3, and practised CK and OO words, we now start to extend the child's ability to decode new words with either one, two or three syllables. Assess the whole time as the child reads: if the child stumbles on a word, make a note to revise that phonic sound before continuing to the next book. I find that often these children need help distinguishing between similar words, such as back and black, and by retraining the child to read accurately using these simple texts - that do not look babyish - and then rebuilding from the bottom up, much progress can be made. I thought that my pupils would look with disdain at these books. I found the opposite; they were so relieved that at last somebody had actually given them a book they could read! Simply print on A4 paper, two on a page. Cut into individual A5 pages, and staple or bind them together to make a book. Purpose These books have been written and tried and tested on some of my older pupils (mainly boys I admit), and they have proved very helpful. Most of my pupils have a dyslexic type problem, involving poor processing skills and have had years of failure. They must build a secure foundation for reading ability to build upon. These books, used as described, will help to build that foundation. I am finding an increasing number of such pupils desperate for help. You can help, too! It is not hard; you just need to understand the problem a little. What is included? 1 pdf with 24 pages: 1 longer story, 2 short stories and a poem.

Each book has a matching PowerPoint, making it suitable for various settings. This book is set in Saxon England. The Jack Stories, of which this book is one, introduces one phonic sound at a time, and subsequent books build on the vocabulary of the books before, constantly revising and reviewing learned sounds. Irregular sight words are only slowly and gradually introduced. Science of reading aligned. Based on the most up-to-date phonic research. These books should be read sequentially as they tell one long story, each telling a part. He has drawn some of the pictures. What makes this phonic reading programme for special needs different? · It has its own, easy-to-download and print phonic reading books, making it accessible to many children worldwide. · Each book carefully builds on the vocabulary of those that have gone before, providing much repetition, without relying on predictable text. · Pictures aid the storyline without encouraging reading from the pictures – i.e. guessing. · The vocabulary is based on phonic families, which are introduced in a carefully planned way. · True sight words – those that cannot be sounded out - are kept to a minimum. Most words are introduced in their phonic family wherever possible. · It is truly multisensory, using the power of the hand. We not only look at the words, but we write them too. This is powerful and has the bonus of turning the child not only into a reader but into a writer as well. 30 Worksheets to support the development of reading fluency The worksheets take the pupil from hearing the new sound in words, developing phonemic awareness, to reading passages in preparation for reading the book. This is a PowerPoint featuring Multiplication Flashcards for the 2 Times Table Number Facts and their related division sums. The flashcards can be used in order or shuffled to add an extra challenge. In addition, facts answered incorrectly can be moved and presented again at the end. If the teacher prepares the PowerPoint before the lesson, then the facts that are being worked on can be placed first. Pumpkins Reading Comprehension Passage - Cored Ed Encyclopedia

This pumpkins reading comprehension includes: Visualization (on the front cover) Start your lesson by taking a minute to think and share something about the topic. Read the script aloud (slowly), perhaps prepare some music or sound effects. Student close their eyes and let their imaginations wander. Students open their eyes, read the question aloud and give them a few minutes to complete. Ask a few students to share or keep answers until the end to compare with what they learn in the passage. Pre-Reading Trivia Students will write down one thing they already know about the subject and then read five more facts and discuss. These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Give 1 minute for students to write what they already know (no pressure—best guess is fine). Read the five facts together. After each fact, do ask a student for their opinion, was it surprising? Set a purpose by asking students to highlight/underline one fact they want to learn more about during the reading. Reading Passage The text is a high-interest reading passage with set paragraphs, roughly three to four paragraphs long. It contains a variety of themes about the topic, anywhere from history to technology. The passage is between 250 and 350 words in length. First, ask students to look at the headings and see what they’ll learn about today. What do they know about the topic/heading? First read options: Teacher read-aloud (best for support). Partner reading (paragraph by paragraph). While reading, students underline important details, and vocabulary words they think may come up in the questions section. Mixed Questions The first question page contains four multiple-choice questions, each with a choice of four answers, and three written response questions that require a sentence or two from the student. Students complete the mcqs first independently, then review quickly as a class. For the 3 written responses, try to get students giving the answer with some form of evidence: “I think ___ because the text says ___.” If students get stuck, send them back to check the passage. Vocabulary Questions Practice seven key words from the text in this section across two activities. First section is scrambled words where students will unscramble three words given a clue for each. The second section is a word to meaning matching activity. Before starting, have some students read out words they underlined in the passage. Ask students to say the word and read aloud the sentence(s) around each word. Ask students to do scrambled words and the matching exercise in pairs then go through answers as a class. For the scrambled spelling task, get four pairs to come up to the board and write the words for extra practice with the other student reading out the clue. For the matching task, prompt students to give full sentences: “I matched ___ with ___ because ___.” Creative Writing In this question, the student will be required to write a five to eight sentence paragraph on a question related to the topic. Before starting, ask students write down 3 key ideas they are going to include in their piece. Ask students for ideas to share around the class to help those struggling. Pro writing expectations: 5–8 sentences At least 2 facts or details from the passage At least 2 vocabulary words from the previous page Students read their paragraphs while classmates listen for facts and vocabulary words. Extension Activities This page is optional for fast finishers or to take home. There are several activities, each one requiring a different skill. Do some, do none, do all, completely optional - but you will feel reassured knowing every possibility is planned for. Includes summary writting question. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Guided Reading Pages (x10) Check the book snapshot (below) for: primary topic - do you need to prep extra reading or intro materials on this? what is taught best - decide on 1-2 bullets to focus on, use the prompt or words provided here for best results. learning goals - what you are checking for students to be able to do after the session, elicit answers using prompts or words provided. key vocabulary (see section above). questions overview - so you know what is coming up and if you need to prep extra materials to assist understanding. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. Try to focus more on one student per session (rotating every time), so you can work out if they are ready to move up or need to move down a level. Comprehension Questions (back cover x3) This is your way to check that students didn’t just say the words, but actually understood the text. First, let students answer by pointing to the page/picture and saying a short sentence. After any answer, follow with: “Show me where you found that in the text.” In bigger groups, have partners answer first (10–20 seconds), then call on 2–3 students to share.
