Friendly Versus Unfriendly Behaviors SEL Sorting Activity In this product, students will sort friendly versus unfriendly behaviors. You can have students do this independently, with a partner/group, or laminate for repeated use in a Center 's activity. There is no reading required. This is a great follow-up activity to your favorite friendship or friendly behavior story. This is a great resource for social-emotional learning, as a sorting activity, to increase social skills and friendly behaviors, etc. The Suggested Directions include: 1. Read a story about being friendly to others. Some good stories are How To Be A Friend by Marc Brown or a A Little Spot Makes Friends by Diane Alber-or any of your favorite friend books or books about being friendly towards others. 2. Print off all 4 pages to each student, partnership or group. This can also be used for a Center ’s activity. 3. If going to use over and over, laminate cards and sorting sheets. 4. Instruct them to look at the pictures and decide which is showing friendly behaviors and which is not showing friendly behaviors. 5. They will cut out the pictures and glue to the correct page (either Friendly or Unfriendly).

Vaping and Peer Pressure SEL Lesson

In this lesson, students will first listen to an NPR podcast of vaping and the teenage brain (link in slides included). They will also read and analyze a story that has to do with a fictional character who ends up vaping and interacts with a number of different people. Students will need to assign responsibility and blame in terms of what happened to Susan. Students will also need to explain why they ranked the way they did for each of the characters in the story. Nobody can have 0% nor 100% in the ranking students decide. There is a ranking order sheet on the second page of the story that can be used for this purpose. This is a higher-order activity where students will be analyzing different peer pressure situations to assign responsibility to different people and there is no right or wrong answer. There is also a 5 slide PowerPoint presentation to guide the lesson from start to finish as well as a lesson outline. The lesson can be taught within a 30-45 period class based on the amount of discussion you encourage. At the end of the lesson students will have a chance to share their ranking and state their reasoning.

In this motivation lesson plan, students will learn about extrinsic versus intrinsic motivation. There is a PPT slide presentation with animation on most slides to full engagement (could be converted to a Google Slide presentation) to learn about both types of motivation-extrinsic and intrinsic. There are 2 video clips (The Office video clip is cropped so there is no inappropriate language and there is a Secret Life of Pets trailer-both via Videolink.) There is a student survey as well as an answer score sheet. In this survey students will answer 10 questions in a range of 1-4, where 1 represents "not at all me" and 4 represents "that's totally me." Students will be able to score their answers with the included answer sheet to determine their dominant motivational style. Included is also a process on how to increase either intrinsic or extrinsic motivational style. Such process involves asking themselves a series of questions (7 questions) to target what they could do to increase their weaker motivational style since both styles are needed. Students will learn about how to be a warrior, not a worrier. The use of colorful imagery of male and female warriors will hook students. They will learn about strategies using the acronym S.H.I.E.L.D. They will also be in groups, applying the strategy to a scenario. There are 5 different scenarios.
