This is a pack of 32 flashcards for words with a consonant blend and a short vowel sound with no more than four sounds. The pack contains words with both an initial and a final blend. Introduction: I made these cards to send home with my pupils for extra practice sounding out these consonant blends words with their parents. They provide a cheap-to-print, effective way to get maximum practice at this vital, foundational reading skill. Order, outline and steps: Simply print and cut up the cards into 32 word cards, a 32 picture cards. Start by having the child sound out the words: lay picture cards face up on the table and stack the word cards in a pile, face up. Take a word card, sound it out to read it. Find the matching picture card and lay them both aside together. Once the pupil gains confidence, games can be made: Turn the above activity into a game by placing ten word cards in a pile face down between the players, and laying the matching pictures face down on the table. The players then take it in turns to select a word card and turn over a picture card. If they match, the player can keep the matching cards. If not, the word card is returned to the bottom of the pile and the picture placed face down on the table once more. The word cards chosen can be selected to give the child practice where needed, either with initial, or final blends or a mixture of both. Who are the flashcards for?
