This Unit focuses on the Long U Sounds! Learning how to read can be the most challenging activity for students and for a teacher. Understanding that the combination of letters can make the same vowel sound requires lots of repetitive practice of reading and writing these words with these sounds. There are other phonics units that I sell that focuses on the Long A sound with a combination of different letters, the Long E sound with a combination of different letters, the Long I sound with a combination of different letters, and the Long O sound with a combination of different letters. Reading can be made easier with these phonic helps that repeatedly encourage students to practice these Long U sounds. Activities include reading comprehension and identifying the Long U in their reading, writing their answers to questions regarding the paragraph, identifying additional Long U words in sentences using a word bank, matching words with pictures, spinning a paperclip activity where students will write the word with the Long U sound, and lastly a fun wordsearch with variations of Long U words. These activities are for each long vowel words that are focused on the Long U sounds so there are plenty of opportunities for students to practice their comprehension reading skills and phonic sounds. Students will practice the following Long U Word sounds: U_E, EW, OO, UE, UI and OU. Teachers can use this resource in whole group, individually with students, students can practice with each other in centers, or these worksheets can be assigned as homework. Worksheets are also differentiated for each Long U sounds for all young learners which makes it perfect for all 1st - 2nd graders. A total of 38 pages full of reading and phonic activities. Along with reading and writing there are matching, cutting, and pasting activities. Word searches and spin and make a word activity are also a part of this packet which make learning to read these phonic sounds entertaining for young learners. CVC Word Families for Beginning Readers: Stamp it, Make it, Trace it, and Write it

This CVC unit is engaging for students as they practice reading and learning the short vowel sounds while students cut and make the words, trace the words, write the words, and stamp out the words. Reading short vowel / rhyming words is an introduction to reading. Repetitive practice of reading these words is also another fundamental practice to help students read. In this unit, students will practice word families that have the same ending. Teach students that word families rhyme and only have a different beginning sound. For each word family, students will practice making, tracing, writing, or stamping six different words. Some of the words are proper nouns or names given to people or pets. There are also nonsensical words that are not real. The purpose of these words is to teach how to sound out words only within the same word family. File contains the following word family worksheets : ad, an, at, ed, en, et, in, ip, it, og, op, ot, ug, un, ut. It also includes all the letters needed to cut out for the "make it" worksheets . A pack of 12 CVC Words Decodable Phonic reading books Plus 2 matching phonic workbooks to support learning. Created by an Early Years Specialist Teacher (B. Ed) who is currently tutoring children with profound special needs in reading and writing following over 30 years of teaching phonics. I created these phonic readers as I saw the huge need for highly structured, fun-to-read, early-reading books. They are very popular. These books are preceded by our CVC readers , which begin to introduce vocabulary which is revised in these books. They are followed by: Level 1 Set 1: Common digraphs Level 1 Set 2: Silent E Main features: •The Consonant Blends readers only use the words: I go to no •All the other words are 4 letter, decodable words with a short vowel sound and an initial or final consonant blend. •Pictures make up for the lack of words, while not encouraging guessing. •Each book tries to tell a simple story. •Each book has been tested on children with severe special needs and those with none – all have loved them as they can read them! •The books should be read in order as words gradually introduced and repeated, so building confidence and helping children gain reading fluency. 2 matching workbooks to consolidate learning and to help children to integrate their new reading and spelling skills into everyday literacy. ENDING SOUNDS Fall/Autumn Worksheets and Learning Activities

Are you looking to add to your Fall/Autumn ELA curriculum? If so, this is the product for you. Your Pre-K and Kindergarten learners will enjoy this set of worksheets and learning games as they strengthen their ELA skills. Beginning with a set of flash cards, they’ll build vocabulary with Fall/Autum words such as pumpkin, squirrel, acorn, leaf, and sweater. Next, they’ll move on to complete 7 worksheets that focus on ending sounds. Within the worksheets they will identify uppercase and lowercase letters, match pictures to the letter with the corresponding ending sound, color Fall/Autumn icons, write uppercase and lowercase letters that match the ending sounds of pictures, and practice cutting and gluing skills. Along with the worksheets, there are 3 learning activities. In the first activity , your learners will use a letter tile or clothespin to complete the Fall/Autumn vocabulary word with its appropriate ending sound. There is a second activity where learners will match vocabulary picture cards with their “ending sound” partner letter. Lastly, learners will have a great time with Tom Turkey as they play a fun “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” game with Power Point slides. The object of the activity is for learners to identify the ending sounds of the vocabulary pictures and determine if they match the lowercase letter paired with the picture. All 7 worksheets are Print and Go. They are also available in a color version, as well as a black and white version. Two of the learning activities are also available in both versions. The Power Point learning activity is available in color only. Additionally, an answer key for the worksheets is included. Take a moment to look at the details of each worksheet and learning activity below. PAGES 1-3: Learners will use these flashcards (picture and word) to build thematic vocabulary skills. PAGE 4: Learners will look at 6 Fall-themed pictures and circle the lowercase letter that matches the ending sound of the picture. PAGE 5: Learners will draw a line to match 6 Fall-themed vocabulary pictures with the corresponding lowercase letter that matches the ending sound of the picture. PAGE 6: Learners will look at 6 Fall-themed pictures, as well as a lowercase letter. They will determine if the letter matches the beginning sound of the picture and color either the “thumbs-up” or “thumbs-down” icon. PAGE 7: Learners will cut and glue 8 lowercase letters under the matching Fall-themed vocabulary picture to show the ending sound of each picture. PAGE 8: Learners will identify a lowercase letter and color one of two Fall-themed pictures that have the matching ending sound. This 'ea' set of 2 phonics anchor charts is excellent for acquainting children with words in the ' ea ' spelling family, for both reading and spelling development. What is included in the pack? One brightly coloured ' ea ' phonic anchor chart which can be used as a word wall, or for teacher use One black and white phonics anchor chart, which can be coloured by pupils What do the worksheets involve? The colour ' ea ' anchor chart can be used as a word wall or as an aid to teaching the ' ea ' digraph. The black and white anchor chart can be coloured by the pupil. The act of colouring helps the family of ' ea ' words to be fixed together as a group of words in the child's memory. In addition, children can be encouraged to think of a story, using as many words on the ' ea ' anchor chart as possible. How to use the anchor charts One of the great difficulties of learning digraphs, encountered by the middle and lower thirds of the class, is remembering which digraph to use for each word. Writing Prompts Writing prompts are designed to continue the theme or lessons learned in the story. Students are persuaded to write in a variety of ways and each prompt includes several cues to help. As with the spelling/vocab section, writing prompts will vary. This includes research pieces, reading responses, poetry and creative writing prompts. Full Answer Keys Full answer keys and sample responses are provided so no matter how busy you are, you know you're covered! Mixed question answers provide evidence from the text, math questions contain the relevant workings. Answers are designed for use by the teacher, but also suitable as a handout to the student. Some sounds contain print-and-go games to make learning fun. AR and A-E each contain a board game. Who are these worksheets for? I have written them for pupils who struggle with processing information - especially sounds. This includes children who are DYSLEXIC or have ANY other kind of processing disorder. Such children may have failed with other methods of teaching phonics. Such pupils need activities that: ·are highly structured - one tiny step at a time building on the one before using only a limited number of words to start with and only using words that the child has already learnt to sound out, with no nasty surprises. ·Have only a little on each pageas these pupils tire easily. What makes these worksheets special? I have a powerful three-step process which I use with my special needs pupils, which is worked out over the course of the 12 worksheets: 1. See it!where we focus on becoming aware of the new sound in words. This involves first hearing the new sound in words and then seeing it in words (tracking). 2. Sound-it-out!Having learnt to see the new sound in words, we learn to sound out these words to read and write them. We begin by usingsound-it-out boxesfor reading and spelling which help the child to segment the word prior to blending the sounds together. Once the child can read and write individual words, we work on fluency by building familiarity with the common words in the new sound family. Once the child can sound the words out to read and spell confidently, we move on to recognising them/using them in longer reading and dictation passages, as soon as the child is able. I provide 2 reading passages with comprehension exercises and one dictation passage, with a page in the workbook dedicated to it, with room for a picture, which again cements understanding. 3. Write it! Incorporated into the above two steps, we constantly write the new sound. This adds a multi-sensory dimension to our work - we see with our eyes, we sound it with our mouth parts and voice, and then we move by writing. All three steps work together to help the child feel in control of his/her learning and to become a successful, confident learner. We finish each sound (except the Consonant L-Blends) with a dictation which culminates our work before we move on to the next sound. I try to give this a week after we finish the book, to act as revision. The dictation: Read this passage to your pupil, who should write it. Have the child read his/her work and check for errors. Make sure the writing is completely accurate before saying the child has finished, including full stops and capital letters correctly used. Flashcards are included in most books. Phonic Games are also included for AR and A-E to make learning more fun!
