Summer Sales: Learn The Phonic Sound ough and augh (rough, laugh)
ELA, Language Development, Phonics, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Summer Sales: Learn The Phonic Sound ough (as in rough) and augh (as in laugh) Learn To Read With Phonics Reading Packs are a quick and easy way to teach children to read in just six months. They are ideal for all ages (from 4 years plus), especially reluctant older readers of 7, 8, 9+, children with learning difficulties and children where English is a foreign language. The packs are designed to be used one to one or in small groups with a teacher and child or parent/guardian and child learning together. The packs consist of a structured course that build 44 phonic sounds into the text. As the children read the adventures of a loveable boy called Sam, they can have fun searching for hidden sounds. They will build up 44 sounds in total. This will enable them to read 80% of words in the English language, by breaking them down into sounds or syllables - pl ay ing. Children using phonics in this way progress fast. A series of stories, The Bouncing Castle and The Famous Cousin From The Country reinforce the complex middle sounds being learnt. By the end of the scheme, the child will be ready to progress to 'solo' reading books, such as Roald Dahl's 'Georges Marvellous Medicine' and 'Fantastic Mr Fox'. Many of the packs have cut out practice pages for matching words to pictures and phrases to pictures, to fix the sound words in the child's memory. The simple text and fun colour sketches, appeal to young readers and have helped the authors to teach many, many children to read. The reading packs may be used in any order, just pick the pack for the sound you require. However, when using the packs for a complete non reader we suggest you start with packs teaching initial sounds (word building with three or four letter words). Then move on to learning phonic sounds in this order: ch, sh, wh, th, oo, ee, ar, or, ur, ir, er, magic e, ea, oa, ai, ay, oi, oy, oa, short y (as in happy), long y (as in sky), soft c (as in mice), soft g (as in engine), ou, ow, au and aw. Next, move onto more complex sounds as in, tion, le, el, ough, gue, que, ine, ue, ie, ei, prefixes and suffixes. How To Use Each pack introduces a sound. 1) Learn the sound with the child/children 2) Read the sentences or stories several times, encouraging the child/children to talk about the pictures. 3) At the end of the sentences or story, there is a list of words and phrases, which the child can match to the pictures. Practise each sound several times, until the child is familiar with it.

The Butler (2013): Complete Movie Guide with Historical References
Social Studies, History, History: African, History: USA, Grade 9, 10, 11, 12, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Forest Whitaker stars as Cecil Gaines, a fictional character inspired by Eugene Allen. Cecil grows up in the racially segregated South and witnesses his father's murder by a white plantation owner. He later finds work as a domestic servant in a hotel, where he hones his skills as a butler. Cecil's exceptional work ethic and dedication catch the attention of a White House representative, who offers him a job as a butler in the White House. Cecil accepts the position, and over the years, he becomes a trusted and respected member of the White House staff, serving various presidents. As Cecil carries out his duties, the film depicts the tumultuous events and social changes taking place in America. From the civil rights movement and the Vietnam War to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Cecil observes and is indirectly affected by the shifting political and social landscape. "The Butler" also delves into Cecil's personal life, particularly his relationship with his wife, Gloria, played by Oprah Winfrey, and their two sons. Cecil's dedication to his work often comes at the cost of his relationships, causing strain within his family. Throughout the film, Cecil struggles with his role as a passive observer to the racial inequality and injustice surrounding him. As the civil rights movement gains momentum, his eldest son, Louis, played by David Oyelowo, becomes an activist, causing tension and ideological clashes between them. "The Butler" combines fictional elements with historical events, featuring an ensemble cast that includes notable actors portraying various U.S. presidents, such as Robin Williams as Dwight D. Eisenhower, John Cusack as Richard Nixon, and Alan Rickman as Ronald Reagan. The film aims to highlight the experiences of African-Americans during a transformative period in American history, emphasizing the personal journey of Cecil Gaines and the impact of his service in the White House. It touches on themes of race, identity, family, and the struggle for civil rights. "The Butler" serves as a poignant exploration of the African-American experience through the eyes of a butler who witnesses firsthand the complexities of power, politics, and social change in America. These 25 teacher-generated questions are designed to help students focus in on key information during this powerful movie. I have also included 4 historical reference points (short excerpts to help give students a historical reference point for the printables /parts-of-and-anatomy-of">parts of the movie). Ready to print and use! Comes with a completed answer key! The movie is available on iTunes and Amazon.

26 ABC Coloring Pages
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Speech Therapy, Language Development, Pre-Reading, ESL, Phonics, Kindergarten, Preschool, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Here is a fun pack of 26 Alphabet Coloring Pages: Color the Alphabet and Learn Beginning or Initial Sounds! This teaching resource includes 26 coloring worksheets designed to help young children (or those with a special need) become familiar with the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they stand for—the beginning sounds. Each page focuses on one alphabet letter: the children colour the large letter at the top of the page and say the 'etter's sound. Then, they must look for things that begin with that sound and color them. A challenge to make the sheets more beneficial: For every sound except 'A', every page contains a picture of one object that begins with the previous sound in the alphabet. Can the pupil find it? This ensures that the work is systematic and provides revision. Teaching tips: Pupils need to learn to hear the beginning sound of words, not just learn the sounds made by the letters. To this end: Help the child, if necessary, by emphasising the beginning sound: you can hold onto it until to help the child hear it. Do help the child to extend each worksheet by looking for things around the classroom that begin with each sound as it is studied. Helping to develop pencil control Coloring is not just a pastime but can be a help to train the child to work neatly (can sh/e color between the lines?) as well as to develop pencil control. Who are these sheets for? Homeeducators/homeschoolers early learners, Those with a special need, parents as well as private tutors Speech and language therapists Teachers of ESL/EFL Suitable for homelearning/extra practice at home It is suggested that an adult work with the child while the sheet is completed, either in small groups or individually, for best effect.
