Writing Center Words & Write-the Room Activity – FARM
ELA, Writing, Creative Writing, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Centers, Activities
Help students with their creative writing with these farm themed words and images for your K-2 classroom Writing Center . Words with images include: barn, chick, cow, donkey, duck, farmers, feed, goat, goose, hay, hen, horse, pig, rooster, sheep, and tractor. My students tend to love the Writing Center . I always have plenty of tools and “help” available to them, including themed pages like these for the farm. I print two copies so there is no arguing about having to share, and I laminate them for durability. Students can easily grab a laminated word page and use it to help write an amazing creative story. Page 4 of the PDF is for the Writing Center . Print and laminate one or two and place it in the Writing Center for your students to access as needed. Also included are 16 cards for a Write–the–Room activity if you choose to use them. (I have only used this with my Kindergarten class.) These cards are four-per-page, with the same words and images used for the Writing Center . Pages 5-8 of the PDF are cards for use as a Write-the-Room activity. You may wish to laminate for durability to be able to use year-after-year, and use sticky tack (poster putty) to mount it to walls, bookshelves, file cabinets, etc. I find this is easier than tape. On of my grade-level teachers prints in gray scale, tapes them up, and then lets students take them home after use. Whatever works best for you. Recording pages for the Write-the-Room are included on pages 9 and 10. Page 9 is a full-size recording sheet, and page 10 has 2 half-size recording sheets if you use mini-clip boards like I do. Please note - there are ten pages in this resource but the first three pages are for "packaging" purposes.

o or oo? Phonic Game
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Reading, Spelling, Kindergarten, Preschool, Activities, Games
This o or oo? Phonic Game is a listening game to help the child to hear the ‘oo’ sound in words, as different to the ‘o’ sound as some children have difficulty hearing the new ‘oo’ sound. This is a simple oral game for 2 players to help to develop the ability to hear the sounds as separate in words without the need to worry about text yet. No die needed. These children may have auditory processing difficulties, of which there are growing numbers of children. With the recognition of the needs of these children and timely intervention, many can survive school. Sadly without it, they may soon fall behind. If you have a child who cannot hear the graphemes in words easily, then find or make a game to help. This is one such game you can use. Background to why I made this game One of my pupils has a speech delay. When I introduced him to ‘oo’, he tried to sound out the words saying ‘o’ instead of ‘oo’. It was as if ‘oo’ was a foreign sound to him. So, I devised this game to help him to hear the ‘oo’ sound in words he uses frequently in speech. After playing it a few times he is now happily sounding out to read and spell words with the ‘oo’ sound. This game uses only the ‘oo’ sound as heard in ‘moon’. Who can use the 'o' or 'oo' game? Anyone who is teaching a child who shows difficulty in learning to read words with /oo/, trying instead to say /o/. For more help teaching phonics, see my FREE Phonic reading and Spelling programme, Reading Made Simple: www.readingmadesimple.weebly.com What is included? 1 PDF with game and instructions

These letter U playdough mats allow students to build those fine motor muscles while learning about things that begin with the letter U. Each mat features an easy to recognize picture of a word that starts with U for students to use playdough to create. These mats are suitable to preschoolers and kindergartners who are learning about the initial sound of the letter U and those who need extra practice building up their fine motor skills. There are 3 different playdough mats in this set: U is for umbrella. U is for upset. U is for unicycle. Students can build their creations on the table top or directly on the playdough mat if laminated or placed in page protectors. When to Use Fine Motor Center Playdough Center Alphabet Center Literacy Center Independent Activity Small Group Activity Morning Tub or Basket Activity Table Top Activity Skills Assessed Fine Motor Skills Color Matching Beginning Sounds Letter Recognition The playdough mats themselves are no prep. The teacher will simply print them out, and laminate them if desired and place them in the appropriate center or activity area. All that needs to be added to this activity is different colored playdough or clay. These mats not only provide a fun and engaging activity for students to practice fine motor skills, they also provide a way for students to associate the initial sound of the letter U to recognizable pictures. Teachers will love the easy set up for this center activity. By laminating these pages, teachers will have a reusable playdough center for students to use over and over. The playdough should not stick to the laminated pages. If laminating is not an option, I would recommend placing the playdough mats inside of page protectors or in plastic sleeves. The playdough will not stick to their surfaces as well.
