In this educational activity , the learner will be presented with a set of food items, such as lettuce, cheese, ham, bread, tomato, pickle, mustard, and mayonnaise, along with a picture card of a sandwich. The goal of the activity is for the learner to sort the food items that go together to make the sandwich. Other food in this activity is baked potato, hamburger, taco, spaghetti, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, hot dog First, provide the learner with the picture card of the sandwich, and ask them to identify the different food items that go together to make the sandwich. The learner can then sort the food items into groups based on their function in the sandwich, such as the bread, filling, and condiments. To make the activity more engaging, the educator can use real food items instead of picture cards, and ask the learner to physically assemble the sandwich. This will not only reinforce the learner's understanding but also provide a hands-on learning experience. Next you can introduce the different food cards and discuss their differences, such as their taste, texture, and nutritional value. Then present the various sorting cards for the different foods and discuss the various different foods that go with the food card. Some food cards may have some of the same sorting cards For example cheese might be on pizza, baked potato, hamburger and a sandwich which makes it a great time to discuss how the some foods fit in with other foods. Lastly you could discuss the importance of a balanced diet and how the different foods contribute to overall health and well-being. The learner can also be encouraged to come up with their own healthy sandwich combinations, using the knowledge they have gained from the activity . By engaging in hands-on sorting the learner can develop important cognitive skills such as attention to detail, observation, and reasoning. The Case of the Food Fight This version is higher level with more application focused questions and more advanced sentences. Recommended for grades 3-4. The Case of the Missing Ticket Kiosk This version is lower level with more identification focused questions and less advanced sentences. Recommended for grades 2-3. Both versions include an extended writing opportunity, suspect list, and answer key. How This Activity Works: For students to eliminate suspects, they must follow the steps of the clues. These clues require critical thinking as they decide which animals need to be crossed out. I suggest pre-teaching this and explaining how to eliminate suspects to avoid confusion. Example: A clue that says, “The culprit’s name has the number of letters as your answer.” with the answer of 4 means that the culprit’s name has EXACTLY 4 letters. This is a Busy Learning CVC Spelling Packet. The focus is on Short Vowel Words. There are 15 pages in this packet. Each page will have a chart , a word with a missing vowel, and vowel options. Students will say the name of the picture and determine the missing vowel needed to spell the word. Then they will write the letter in the box. The pictures and words included are: 1. Cat – done for students 2. Hat 3. Rat 4. Jet 5. Vet 6. Wet 7. Dig 8. Pig 9. Wig 10. Cop 11. Mop 12. Top 13. Cut 14. Hut 15. Nut This can be used as an early finishers activity or used in small group with the teacher. You can print and laminate each of these pages if you want it to be a reusable activity. Within small groups, you will be able to listen to students sound these words out. You will determine if students can identify the correct short vowel, but you will also determine their ability to pronounce beginning and ending sounds. You can extend this activity by having students use the words in a complete sentence. This is great for students who finish this activity quickly or need an additional challenge.

Number Bonds 6-10 Bingo - Boards 6-10

Need a fun, engaging activity for practicing number bonds to 10 with your kiddos? This math bingo game is perfect for getting your students focused on number bonds for numbers 6-10! Preparation: Print and laminate enough Bingo Boards for each student to have one Optional: print, cut and laminate the Playing Squares Print, cut and laminate the Calling Cards. Lamination is optional, but recommended, as it will ensure that the game remains in good condition and can be used for many years to come! To avoid excessive printing and laminating, the Playing Squares could be replaced with other manipulatives such as buttons or counters. Alternatively, students could mark squares off on their Bingo Boards with dry erase markers and then simply clean the boards again after playing (provided that you have laminated the boards) How to Play: Each student needs a Bingo Board and at least 7 Playing Squares (or other manipulatives or a dry erase marker) Shuffle the Calling Cards and place them in a pile. Draw a Calling Card and call out and/or display the contents of the card. Each student looks on their Bingo Board for a block that matches the Calling Card. If they find one, they cover that block with a Playing Square. Draw a new Calling Card and repeat the process. The game continues until somebody wins. To win, a student must shout out “BINGO!” when they have covered three blocks in a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally). If the Calling Cards run out before anybody wins, simply shuffle them again and continue playing. Please note: Sometimes there may be more than one block on the Bingo Board that matches the Calling Card. The student may only cover one block on a turn. Once that turn is over, the Playing Square may not be moved to cover a different block. This resource includes 5 different bingo board, in colour as well as black and white.
