May Write the Room Literacy Center and World Wall Cards

My student's favorite center to do for word work is always the Write the Room center . I give a small group of 3-5 students a clip board and the "word hunt" paper. They walk around the room with their board, paper, and a pencil and try to find all 24 words that I put scattered around the classroom. They always feel such a sense of pride when they find all 24 words! This set of words is themed for the month of MAY. There are word cards for Mother's Day, Memorial Day, gardening, bugs, grilling, and weather associated with April. I like to print the cards in color and laminate them for durability (it also keeps them ready to use for the next year). I hope your kiddos enjoy this center as much as my own students do! You can also use these cards on your word wall for your students to reference when doing writing activities. There are lots of times during the month of MAY that my students ask me how to spell certain words and (now with these cards) I just tell them to go to the word wall to find it! When using them for the word wall I put magnetic tab on the back of each laminated card so students can easily find, borrow, and put back my word wall words (that are on a magnetized white board surface).

Practice reading words with the suffix -ABLE with these sentence reading rings. Students will read words with the suffix -able in the context of sentences. Each card also includes a bold and colorful image to illustrate each sentence and to help students to learn the meanings of each word. What is Included: This resource includes one reading ring activity for the suffix able. There are cards each featuring a different word with the suffix able, with a sentence using the word in context and an image to illustrate that sentence. When to Use Early Finishers - If students finish their work early, they can use these reading rings for extra practice. Small Group Work - Teachers can use these reading rings to target small groups of students who need more practice reading words with suffixes. Independent Practice - Students can work independently at their desks to read this set of suffix cards. Morning Work - Students can read and review this reading ring for morning work as their classmates arrive to class. How to Make: Teachers will print out the pages and cut each card apart. Once cut apart, the teacher can choose to laminate the cards for durability. Then, use a hole punch to punch a hole in the top left corner of the card. What is Included: There is an instructional page with printing instructions. There are letter X posters with various letter X words. There are handwriting task cards that allow students to practice writing the letter X as well as words that end with the letter X. There are beginning sound clip cards that allow students to practice clipping the images that begin with the letter X. There is a sorting activity where you sort pictures that end with X from words that do not end with X. The letter X sorting cards that can also be used to play memory, matching, or concentration games. These cards can also be used during a lesson in a pocket chart as well as for a center display. When to Use: All of the activities make great literacy centers, by placing each set of activities in the center and letting students complete activities alone or with a partner. These activities make great morning tub activities. Just place these activities in morning bins for students to complete as their classmates arrive to class. Skills Assessed: These activities assess letter recognition skills, beginning/ending sounds, handwriting, and sorting skills. Each activity in this set is low prep. Each activity just needs to be printed out, cut apart, and laminated if desired. When you laminate the writing cards, you can create a writing center activity that is reusable is you add dry erase markers. CVC Literacy Centers

This is a set of print and go CVC Literacy Centers that is perfect for early kindergarten students. It is a PDF of 42 pages. Your students will practice beginning sounds, middle sounds, ending sounds, rhyming words, and building CVC words. The cards are fun, bold pictures that are easy to understand. Students will match letter cards to picture cards and build CVC words with boxes showing a picture. It includes three worksheets that could be used for assessments. It does not include an answer key. Implementation Format: These activities could be used in a small group or partner activity or as an individual activity . It is perfect for literacy centers because the activities can be completed in about 10-15 minutes. You can have students complete more than one activity if you want a longer literacy session. Suggestions for use: The center activities include cards that can be used in a pocket chart or sorted on the floor, desk, or table. You could also attach velcro or magnets for sorting on white boards, cookie sheets, etc. Students can use magnet letters or dry erase markers to build CVC words in word building boxes. Standards: CCSS RF.K.2a: recognize and produce rhyming words CCSS RF.K.2d: isolate and produce the initial, medial vowel, and final sound (phonemes) in the three-phoneme (consonant-vowel-consonant, or CVC) words.
