This is an engaging and enjoyable memory game on reflection in plane mirrors and refraction. Pupils work in teams of three or four. Each team lays out their 42 cards face down in a square and take it in turn to turn over two cards. If the cards are a question and its correct answer, the pupil keeps the pair. If they are not a match they are turned face down and the next pupil gets a turn. This process continues until all cards are matched and the winner is the pupil with the most pairs. If a team member thinks that the selectors pair is not a correct match, they can challenge. Pupils are encouraged to check their books for the correct answer but the teacher also has a quick-check answer sheet. If the challenge is correct, the challenger keeps the pair. Here is a quick no-prep game for any elementary classroom: Guess My Number! It helps teach place value, fractions, greater than/less than, logic and working memory skills. This product includes a one-page instruction sheet including the skills taught, different player configurations, rules, a sample round, and extension ideas. This game requires NO PREP and NO MATERIALS at all. Grades to Use With: This game can be used in any elementary classroom (grades K-8). It is great for the following uses: · - Morning/home-room warm-up · - TOC back-up activity · - To fill the 5 minutes before lunch or the end of the day · - As a reward for small-group or one-to-one tutoring Guess My Number Rules: Start with a range based on your students (ex: 1-20 for K, 1-100 for Gr 1-4, 1-200 for Gr 5-7). The teacher (or student if playing in pairs) thinks of a number in that range. The other student (or whole class) has exactly 5 questions of greater than or less than to narrow it down. After 5 questions, they must guess the number. Sample Round: T: I’m thinking of a number between 1-100. S1: Is it greater than 50? T: Yes. S2: Is it greater than 75? T: No. S3: Is it less than 60? T: No. S4: Is it less than 70? T: Yes. S5: Is it greater than 65? T: No This class has narrowed it down to between 60-65. Now they guess. (The number was 62.) How to Play Divide students into groups of 4. Shuffle cards. Groups lays their cards in a square face down. Students take turns to turn over two cards. The pupil keeps the pair If a question is matched by its answer,. If not the two cards are replaced face down and the next pupil takes a turn. Continue until all cards are paired. The student with the most pairs wins. A student can challenge if they think an opponent’s pair is not a correct match.. If the challenge is found correct the challenger takes the cards. In this highly fun and engaging game, students will work together to decide the answers to a mystery game. They will listen to clues and read about a situation that needs to be solved. they will need to work together to solve this mystery. They will have one person who will be using a pencil to eliminate the answers that are not correct based on the different clues. There are a number of clues that groups of students will get (4 - 5 students is best) and each student will read each clue one at a time and the person who has the pencil and possible answers will help to cross out the eliminated answers based on the clues. Each student though will play a part in figuring out what clue is going to be a helpful clue to rule out an answer to either what is missing, who took it or where the item is. This is a great activity for groups to practice problem solving and cooperation, especially if you have some students who are not doing very well as cooperating as a group or some students who are not listening to other students share their perspective. Each student in this activity holds an important clue to the mystery. The directions are in the resource and this is highly engaging for the grades of third, fourth, fifth and sixth. However, for advanced grades, 2nd and even 7th grades would also benefit and find enjoyment in this activity. You know you students best! Each duo will end up creating a unique complex shape as they race to be the one to finish it first using their rolls. Students can also calculate the area of their personal shape for extra math practice. A sample round is included to teach the game to your students! Instructions: 1) Player 1 chooses a starting spot, rolls, and draws a line that length (no diagonals). 2) Player 2 starts at the end of Player 1’s line, rolls, and draws a line that length. 3) Once the perimeter is over 40 units, the first player to close the shape wins! 4) If you can’t close it with the rolls you get, it is a tie. 5) BONUS: Calculate the area of your completed complex shape (close it yourself if the rolls did not complete it).
