Christmas Number Domino – Match Numbers and Number Words (0–30) I like using this Christmas number domino set when we need something calm but still meaningful in the weeks before winter break. Students match numbers with the written number words and gradually build one long domino chain together. The set focuses on numbers from 0 to 30. Each card shows a numeral on one side and the matching number word on the other. Students connect the cards by finding the correct matches, which also practices number recognition and reading at the same time. There are two versions included. One uses regular number words. The second version shows the words with syllable markings. I created this for students who still need help decoding longer number words or benefit from visual reading support. To make it easier to adapt, there are optional end cards for different ranges. You can limit the activity to 0–10, 0–20, or use the full 0–30 set. I usually start with a smaller range and add more cards once students feel confident. I’ve used this during math centers, for partner work, and also as a quiet early finisher activity. It works well because the structure is clear and students can play without much explanation. The domino cards can be printed on regular paper or on colored paper if you want to keep sets separate. I normally laminate them so they last for several seasons. Blank cards are included in case you want to add your own numbers or adjust the set. The design is winter-themed and works well in December lessons, but the focus stays on number practice and reading number words. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness

I Have, Who Has? – Chemistry Element Symbols Game - Christmas Edition
STEM, Science, Chemistry, Physics, Basic Science, Holiday & Seasonal, Christmas, Holidays, Winter, Seasons, Grade 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Activities, Games, Worksheets & Printables, Task Cards, Quizzes and Tests, Teacher Tools, Escape Room, Experiments, Projects, Centers
I Have, Who Has? – Chemistry Element Symbols Game - Christmas Edition I started using this game as a simple way to review the periodic table, especially the main group elements. Over time, it’s become one of those go-to activities that just work – low prep, easy to explain, and students are surprisingly focused once it gets going. The idea is simple: each student gets one or more cards. A card might say, “I have Na. Who has the symbol for Oxygen?” Whoever has the right answer reads their card next, and the round continues until all cards are used. It’s nothing fancy, but it gets students speaking, listening, and thinking about element names and symbols without it feeling like a quiz. What I like is that you can use the game in different ways, depending on the class. In some groups, I stick to the first 20 elements. In others, we go all the way up to element 118. There are also versions where only the names are shown, only the symbols, or a mix of both – so you can adjust the difficulty. I’ve used it with students from grades 8 to 11, sometimes as a warm-up, sometimes as a review at the end of a unit. The materials are printable and easy to store. I’ve printed mine on colored paper to help sort the different versions. Laminating helps if you plan to reuse the cards from year to year, but even unlaminated sets hold up pretty well for a few rounds. It’s a quiet way to reinforce chemistry basics, especially when students need to move a bit or when you want to switch things up without losing content. In my experience, even students who usually hang back tend to join in, since the rules are simple and everyone has a role. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Transition Element Flashcards – Chemistry Symbol and Name Matching Set

Transition & Inner‑Transition Elements Flashcards – Chemistry Symbol and Name Matching Set Holiday Theme: Christmas This is a printable flashcard set I’ve used in chemistry classes, mostly with upper secondary students. The cards focus on the transition and inner transition elements. So we’re talking about the d-block and f-block – the ones students often find harder to remember, especially when they all start sounding similar. I usually bring this out in December when we’re still covering content but everyone’s a bit tired and ready for a change of pace. The cards have either the element’s name or its symbol. Students have to match the two, and they can do that in pairs or small groups. It works like a memory game or just a straight matching activity, depending on how much time we have. Some years I use the cards just for review, other times we build sorting activities around them. Like dividing the metals into transition, lanthanides and actinides. It depends on the group. Advanced students sometimes add a use or a property for each element as they go, which makes it more of a challenge. There are a lot of cards – over 250 – but I don’t always use them all. You can just print the ones you need. I usually go with thicker paper or cardstock, and if I have time, I laminate them so they last. Once cut, I keep them in envelopes and reuse them next year. The design has a winter look – nothing too bright or distracting, just something that makes it feel a bit more seasonal without being silly. I’ve found it helpful for lessons when you still want students to work with real content, but in a way that feels relaxed. Especially useful before the holidays or at the end of a topic on metals. Everything’s in the file – all cards and a short page with tips. It’s been a helpful tool in my December lessons. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Christmas Number 0-30 Game – Printable Cards for Math Practice

Christmas Number Game – Printable Cards for Math Practice 0-30 I put this number game together for the last couple of weeks before winter break, mostly because I needed something that would get them practising numbers but also let them move and talk a little. The idea is really simple: they each get a card, and there’s one card in the middle — and the goal is to find the one number that both cards have in common. That’s it. No complicated rules, and they pick it up within seconds. What surprised me was how into it they got. Even the students who usually aren’t that focused during math were engaged. They were shouting out numbers, helping each other, and asking to play again. I’ve played it in pairs, small groups, even whole class with two teams — and it worked every time. The Christmas designs give it a nice seasonal feel, but it’s still clearly a math activity. The cards go from 0 to 30, and there are a few different versions you can print — I made round ones at first but ended up using the square version because it was quicker to cut. Some of my students struggled with number recognition at the start of the year, and I noticed that after a few rounds of this, they started to recognise the numbers faster. It’s a bit of sneaky learning — they just think they’re playing a game, but the repetition really helps. I usually print on regular paper, sometimes heavier paper if I want to reuse the set. It doesn’t take long to prep — I just cut the cards in the evening, put them in an envelope, and that’s it. It’s become one of my favourite December math go-tos because it keeps the class busy, learning, and having fun — without any chaos. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Periodic Table Elements Domino Game – Christmas Chemistry Activity

Periodic Table Elements Domino Game – Christmas Chemistry Activity During the last week before winter break, I like to keep my lessons calm but still connected to content. This chemistry domino game has worked well in that context. It gives students a chance to revisit the periodic table in a light way, without feeling like they’re doing a full review worksheet. The game is made up of cards that show either the name of an element or its chemical symbol. Students connect the matching parts, so that the end of one card links to the start of the next, just like with a regular domino set. I included all 118 elements, from Hydrogen to Oganesson, so there’s enough variety for most grade levels. Depending on the group, I sometimes let them use a periodic table as support. In other classes, we turn it into more of a memory challenge. Some students take it seriously and try to build the longest chain, others enjoy working in pairs or small groups just to go over what they remember. The cards have a light seasonal theme, which fits well with December lessons. They can be printed on heavier paper, and I usually store them in envelopes or folders by element groups if I want to use them again the next year. No extra materials are needed beyond scissors and maybe a bit of tape or a surface to build on. The setup doesn’t take long, and the atmosphere is usually relaxed. Students still talk about chemistry, especially when they help each other with tricky symbols. It works well in classes where energy is low but you still want them engaged in something subject-related. All the cards and a short set of instructions are included. I’ve used it in different grade levels, and it’s easy to adjust depending on time and ability. A simple idea, but one that helps bring chemistry into the room in a different way. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? “I Have, Who Has?” – Number Words Game (Christmas Version) In my early elementary classes, I’ve often found that the weeks before winter break call for simple, low-pressure activities that still support learning. That’s why I’ve used this number word version of “I Have, Who Has?” so many times—especially with students who are still building confidence in recognizing numbers and reading number words. The game includes number ranges from 0 to 30, so it’s easy to adapt. For some groups, I only use 0 to 10. For others, I include more cards depending on how comfortable they are with the vocabulary. I’ve even used this as a listening activity in small ESL groups, because it gives students repeated exposure to spoken and written number words in a playful format. There’s also a version with syllable breaks, which helps a lot with early readers or children working on pronunciation. The way we usually play it is simple. Each student receives one or more cards, and the round begins when someone says, “I have one. Who has six?” The game continues until all cards have been played. It takes a few minutes for students to get used to the rhythm, but after that, they’re fully focused and often ask to play another round. It also works well when we play in a circle or in smaller groups during center time. What I like most about this game is that it helps students hear, read, and say numbers in context, without needing worksheets or flashcards. I’ve printed my sets on colored paper to help keep different levels organized, and I keep them in envelopes for easy access year after year. The prep is quick, and it fits easily into a short block of time—whether it’s a transition, a review session, or just something calm to end the day. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Chemistry Element Symbol Game – Visual Matching Cards (Christmas Theme) This is a chemistry card game I’ve used in class when we need something more hands-on but still connected to what we’re learning. It works kind of like “Dobble” or “Spot it!”, where you have to find the symbol that two cards have in common. In this case, the cards show element symbols from the first 31 main group elements. No names, just symbols – so it only works if students already know some of them. I usually bring this out in December, when the mood in class is a bit more relaxed but we’re still doing chemistry. The game moves quickly, and students enjoy it once they understand the rules. It doesn’t need any extra materials beyond the cards. Just print them, cut them out, and you’re good to go. There are 93 cards in total, with the same content but in three different shapes: round, square, and hexagon. I printed the square version because it’s easiest to cut, but the round cards look nice too. If you want to keep them for next year, laminating helps. I use it as a warm-up or at a station, sometimes even as a competition in small groups. The best part is that students have to look closely at the symbols and make quick decisions. It really helps with recognition. Some classes get quite into it, and others play more calmly – both work. You can also combine it with coloring beforehand. For example, color all Group 1 elements the same – that makes sorting and grouping easier later. It’s not a complex game, but it keeps the focus on the element symbols without turning it into a test. That’s what I wanted when I made it – something simple that still helps them practise. All the cards are included in the file, plus a short page with how to use them. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know?
