Are you looking for fun activities for practicing number recognition? These pixel art worksheets are perfect for getting your students to practice number identification for the number 9! Different options for how to use this resource: Cut and paste You can choose to print the colour square pages on white paper. -This is the simplest option, but it will take a lot of colour ink. Or you can choose to print the black line squares pages on colour paper. -This will use a lot less ink, but it will take a little more work to prepare. -You may struggle to find colour paper in all the colours I have used. If you have a problem finding the right colours, you can generally substitute a different colour if you need to. Simply look at the answer key to see what the pictures are and choose an appropriate substitute colour. Colour by number You will only need to print the worksheets and allow the students to colour the squares themselves. Preparation: Worksheets 3 printing options: 1. Full colour - best if you will be able to use all the same colours that I have used. 2. Partial colour – I have left the colours blank. You will need to tell your students what colours to use for each number before they can start the activity . This is best if you need to make some substitutions because you are printing on colour paper and cannot find all the correct colours. 3. Black and white - like with the partial colour version, you will need to tell your students what colours to use for each number before they can start the activity . Squares Pages If you are using this resource as a cut and paste activity . 2 printing options: 1 .Colour squares pages (Print on white paper. Each page will have information telling you what picture it is meant for. Simply give each student a block with the different colour squares along with their worksheet) 2. Black line squares pages (print on colour paper. Each page will have information telling you which picture it is meant for, as well as the recommended colour paper to use, and how many students will be able to get their squares from one page. Cut on the dotted lines and give each student one section of each colour page for the picture they are working on.) This is a part of a decodable reader collection of 12 CCVC CVCC stories, conveniently arranged in one 48-page book that you can print once and use for weeks! What is included in the complete book? 12 progressive decodable stories with carefully controlled vocabulary in one complete 48-page book Pre-reading word lists that connect new words to previously learned rhyming patterns 100% decodable text using CCVC CVCC words plus only five essential sight words (and, I, go, no, to - building on the initial four: a, the, is, of) characters and themes to which young children will easily relate Beautiful, nostalgic watercolour illustrations Clear, large font and good spacing for ease of tracking, suitable for young learners Science of Reading principles applied throughout A4 format, ready to print and staple Key features: I have endeavoured as far as is possible, while keeping the vocabulary heavily restricted in a way you will not find in many other phonics readers, to keep the language as natural as possible. This is not to encourage natural language guessing, but to move away from phonics ' drills' that are so common and boring at this stage. Each decodable story uses only decodable CVC words and CCVC CVCC with a short vowel sound plus the new sight words (and, I, go, no, to). Pictures make up for lack of words, while discouraging guessing, and essential tenet of the Science of Reading instruction. The vocabulary is carefully controlled. Each story introduces a few new words while reusing previously learned words throughout all 12 stories. This repetition builds fluency and confidence. Children feel secure as readers because they keep meeting familiar words, which develops automaticity naturally. Perfect For Students who can blend CCVC CVCC words Building reading fluency with decodable texts Small group instruction or independent reading Ages 4-6 or early Grade 1 Science of Reading classrooms Special needs children who need a highly structured reading scheme where they can meet the same words over and over again to gain word recognition and reading flunecy. Key skills taught through the CCVC CVCC stories CCVC CVCC word decoding moving through the most common initial and final blends found at this stage of reading. Reading fluency through controlled vocabulary and repetition Application of phonics skills as they read the stories Comprehension skills, as they check their decoding makes sense in a story context. Sight word recognition (a, the, is, of, and, I, go, no, to) Blend pattern recognition How to Use the 12 CCVC CVCC Phonics Stories Teachers should help the child to study the words at the beginning of each story. These include the decodable words and the sight words (labelled 'odd words'). Read the text, encouraging the child to sound out any words that they cannot recall. Encourage sounding out rather than guessing Celebrate the completion of each story Watch fluency develop as familiar words reappear - if it does not, you may need my 'Learn to Read' short vowels programme once the child has also learned to decode short vowel words with consonant blends.: https://teachsimple.com/product/short-vowels-decodable-reading-books-activity-packs Each story is short enough to finish in one sitting, which keeps children engaged and provides them with plenty of practice. Robert Wilhelm Bunsen – A Scientist Behind the Flame Comprehension Activities A reading and activity set for chemistry lessons (grades 7–10) 🔥🔬 (PDF + H5P) ⚛️📘 A printable and digital resource for grades 7–10 science and cross-curricular teaching 🧪🧠 This resource introduces students to Robert Wilhelm Bunsen, a chemist best known for developing the Bunsen burner – a piece of lab equipment many students first encounter in middle or high school science. But Bunsen’s work went far beyond that: his research on spectroscopy and chemical elements helped lay the foundation for modern analytical chemistry. This material offers a straightforward and accessible way to bring scientific history into your classroom. The short informational text is written in student-friendly language and is paired with activities that help learners understand and retain what they’ve read. It’s also well suited for substitute lessons, since the tasks are self-explanatory and don’t require prior knowledge. What’s included: Informational text about Robert Bunsen’s life and scientific contributions Student worksheet for creating a profile based on the reading Quiz questions to review content, with full solution sheet Two optional follow-up tasks: – Write your own questions about the text – Exchange and answer partner questions File formats: – PDF for easy printing or sharing – Editable DOCX (text only) – H5P version for use in digital classrooms (without images) How it can be used in class: You can use this material to introduce Bunsen during a unit on lab safety, spectroscopy, or chemical elements. I’ve also used it as a quick addition to practical lessons that involve Bunsen burners, giving students historical context for a tool they use regularly. The H5P format supports digital learning environments, offering students the chance to complete the quiz interactively. No complex setup is needed – just print, project, or upload, and the lesson is ready. A simple way to bring a historical figure into a modern classroom context. Have fun exploring the world of science with your students! Warmly, Lernfitness Did You Know?
