Your students will also learn about writing probabilities in fraction and decimal form. How to Use: Print 3 pages of worksheets for each of your students. They can work independently on these tasks or in small groups. Students will determine the theoretical probability for a game of chance using a spinner. Students will determine the theoretical probability for a different game of chance using a 10-sided die. Students will compare these 2 games and pick which game they would like to play. They can use their math calculations to help justify their choice. Have your students share their choices in a class discussion for the wrap-up! Using fractions (one half, tenths and quarters), equivalent fractions (with denominators of 100), and decimals to the hundredths, your students will calculate the three outcomes involved in each of these games of chance. Notable Canadians: List of Diverse Changemakers for Research Projects
Social Studies, History, History: Canada, Research, Grade 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, Activities, Projects

Notable Canadians: Beyond Terry Fox (but he's here too, of course!) Here is a diverse list of 26 Canadian Changemakers for your students to research and present to each other. The list includes athletes, artists, writers, politicians. scientists, and entrepreneurs. I tried to make it as diverse as possible with Indigenous Peoples, Black Canadians, Asian-Canadians, LGBTQ members, and both current and historical figures. How to Use: This list could be a great supplement to a biography unit. It would work well in the beginning of the year when talking about Terry Fox. Allow your students to each choose one Canadian from the list to complete a research project about. They could present their findings in many ways: a written biography with paragraphs about early life, careers, and accomplishments; a PowerPoint Presentation; a pamphlet or poster; a podcast; a video; or more! Grades to Use With: This list could support research projects in many grades in the middle years in Canadian classrooms! 1) Kenojuak Ashevak: ______________________________ 2) Donovan Bailey : _________________________________ 3) Peter Bryce : ___________________________________ 4) Nadine Caron : __________________________________ 5) Viola Desmond : _________________________________ 6) Tommy Douglas : ________________________________ 7) Gord Downie : ___________________________________ 8) Terry Fox: _____________________________________ 9) Chris Hadfield : __________________________________ 10) Louie Kamookak : ________________________________ 11) Rupi Kaur : ______________________________________ 12) Joy Kogawa: ____________________________________ 13) Dan Levy : _____________________________________ 14) Agnes Macphail : ________________________________ 15) Sarah McLachlan : ______________________________ 16) Norval Morrisseau : ______________________________ 17) Daphne Odjig: ___________________________________ 18) Sandra Oh : ____________________________________ 19) Willie O’Ree : ___________________________________ 20) Elliot Page : ___________________________________ 21) Michele Romanow : ______________________________ 22) Harjit Sajjan : _________________________________ 23) Christine Sinclair : ______________________________ 24) David Suzuki: ___________________________________ 25) Tanya Talaga : _________________________________ 26)I rene Uchida : ____________________________________ If you enjoy this Canadian content, check out other options in my store: Types of Investment Accounts in Canada Financial Literacy: Income Tax

Short i CVC words emergent reader

Short i CVC words emergent reader
ELA, Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Reading, Kindergarten, Preschool,

This 14 page Short i CVC word emergent reader is a great resource for your students to use as they develop their reading skills and learn the short i vowel sound. Accompanying worksheets to further practice the short i CVC words in this mini book can be found on Teach Simple here. What’s an emergent reader book? An emergent reader book is a little book, sometimes called “a mini book” that emergent readers use as they are just beginning to learn the conventions of print. Emergent readers books typically have text that is repetitive to help young children learn new words and see patterns within words. Some ways you can use this emergent reader with your students: Morning Work: Have the books printed and ready for students. For morning work students can read the book three times quietly to themselves. Then, have students trace the words. Last, let students color the images in the book. Readers Workshop: Similar to the process of using the book for morning work, students can read the book three times to themselves during independent reading. These are great books for students to keep in their book boxes. Early Finishers: If a student finishes their classwork early, they can grab a printed emergent reader to read to themselves, trace the words, and color. If you do this, be sure to eventually give all students the option to have the same emergent readers in their book box. Send Home: Familiarize students with the process of reading the words, tracing the words, and lastly coloring the book. Then, allow them to take emergent reader books home to use as learning resources outside of school. This is a great option for students that might not have grade level texts available for reading outside of school. Families will appreciate having these extra learning resources at home as it adds to their ability to support what their students are learning in school at home. FIND MORE!
