Introduction As is known by educational agents, learning the alphabet is a fundamental activity for the early development of children and offers a variety of benefits that we will explain below. For this reason, on hpoy day I have prepared a fantastic worksheet that I am sure will be very useful to you with your children. 2.Objective The objective of this sheet consists of: - Achieve or motivate language development: Learning the alphabet is a fundamental step for children's language development. As is known, children who already know their letters are better equipped to understand and then use language much more effectively. This will lay the future foundation for good reading and writing. - Promote reading preparation: You should know that knowledge of the alphabet is a fundamental activity and/or step for literacy and reading. Students who already know letters will be able to begin to associate sounds with letters, which is crucial and fundamental to learning to read. Then, the act of becoming familiar with the alphabet will facilitate the process of being able to decipher words and understand the connection between sounds and letters. - Increase memory: When learning the alphabet you will remember the specific order of the letters. This process will help the development and strengthening of children's memory. In this way, visual memory and sequential memory benefit from remembering the sequence of the letters of the alphabet. - Promote cognitive skills: The alphabet learning process will also involve observation, association and visual discrimination. This set of skills will be essential for the overall development of the child's brain. Furthermore, as is known, pattern recognition and letter categorization are skills that will later be applied in various areas of learning. 3.Order, scheme and stages It is suggested to first introduce the class with a motivating dynamic, and then introduce the worksheet. Learn Initial Sounds J: Lesson 10 teaches the letter Jj and its related phonic sound through a 35-slide PowerPoint lesson, and 5 follow-up activity worksheets. All you need to teach the phonic letter I! Whether in school or at home, this series of phonic presentations can help you effectively teach initial/beginning sounds to all pupils, including those with special needs/dyslexia. This lesson is part of a synthetic, systematic phonics programme for all abilities including those suspected of being dyslexic. This lesson is in the first stage of the Reading Made Simple programme where we teach the initial, or beginning, sounds. The ability to hear the initial/beginning sound is stressed throughout, while we learn to associate each letter with its sound. Each lesson can stand alone but the activities will presume knowledge of the previous letters in the alphabet as Reading Made Simple teaches the initial sounds in alphabetical order. Special features of the Learn Initial Sounds J: Lesson 10 The PowerPoint is silent so that you can interact with your child in the best way for them: full instructions are provided at the bottom of each slide - be sure to show 'Notes'. Science of Reading Aligned Truly phonetic; no 'i' for 'ice-cream'. We focus heavily on phonemic awareness which is so necessary for a head start in phonics The child is given plenty of opportunities to learn the necessary skills - perfection is not expected in lesson 1. Still, the teacher will look for the development of the necessary skills as the child works through the alphabet. What is included in the Learn Initial Sounds J: Lesson 10? A 33-slide PowerPoint which teaches phonemic awareness, letter/sound correspondence and letter formation along with practice games 5 follow-up worksheets How can the Learn Initial Sounds J: Lesson 10 be used? It can be used in multiple ways: As the child learns each sound, you can use the PowerPoint lesson to reinforce your own lesson It can be sent home for a child to watch with his/her parents after being taught the letter Jj in class - this will then act as revision as well as training the parent as to what is necessary to help the child. Use in class Use at home by parents or for home education Suggested Method: Introduce each letter in turn to your pupil. Have a flashcard of the letter ready. Say each letter's sound to the child and ask him/her to repeat it thrice. Explain that some words begin with this sound. Give an example. Use the lesson as teacher training for yourself, to see how to teach your child, or use it with the child. Choose suitable activities (matching the ability of your child) from the pack of worksheets. Notes are suggestions only - use language appropriate to your pupil and be sure to interact naturally. However, could you make sure that you focus on the child's hearing of the sounds at the beginning of words as this is much overlooked in the quest to help children learn the initial sounds as quickly as possible? This Guided Reading Book - Planets in Our Solar System (Level F) includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. There are practice pages for each topic, with an answer key included. The notes pages come in two sizes. The first size is a full-page size. You can print them as-is. You can also print them two to a sheet (which is an option for most printers and copiers). This is what I do as it saves on paper and the sheets will fit in a spiral or composition notebook. The second size is formatted to fit on a standard composition notebook page (but it will also fit in a spiral notebook). Additionally, there are two links included in the pdf: one which opens a digital version of the notes, and another that opens a slide show version, optimized for a projector or interactive board. In both cases, which you click the link, you will be prompted to make a copy, which you can then use with Google Slides or download and use with Keynote or PowerPoint. What's included? Reading Made Simple — Free I_E Phonics Workbook These little workbooks have been a quiet favourite with families using Reading Made Simple for some time now. Each one focuses on a single sound and prints on just one sheet of A4 paper — double-sided, folded in half to make a neat A5 booklet that children can hold and work through at their own pace. They are entirely optional. The phonics programme works perfectly well without them, but many parents and teachers find them a useful companion — either as structured practice or simply as a source of ideas to dip into when needed. Tested by real children: One 5-year-old user is quoted as having said, 'The worksheet is the best bit of my lessons!' Other parents have noted that their child likes the worksheet because 'they think it is easy'. When learning is broken down into small, achievable steps, with no curve balls to throw them off track, every child can say, 'I can read!' When I hear these reviews, I know that I have succeeded in my aim to write a phonics curriculum that can help children of all abilities learn to read and spell. These little workbooks are just one small part of what there is to offer. Please do check out the website for more information. Each workbook offers a gentle mix of activities built around the target sound. Children will read short passages that practise the new sound alongside words from sounds already taught, track and identify the sound within words to support both reading and spelling, practise spelling and sentence writing, and work through simple editing exercises where they spot and correct mistakes. These small editing tasks are particularly worthwhile — they encourage children to look carefully at words rather than guessing from context. The workbooks are particularly well-suited to younger children just beginning their phonics journey, and to older children with special educational needs who are still building their foundational reading and spelling skills. That said, they will not suit every child. Some will find them too long, others too straightforward. Use your own judgement — pick the activities that fit, leave the rest, or set them aside entirely. There is no obligation and no right or wrong way to use them. To print: print double-sided, flipping on the short edge. Fold in half to create your A5 booklet. The answer page at the back is optional. One sheet of paper. One sound. Everything a child needs to practise, consolidate and grow in confidence.
