Letter P Worksheets + PowerPoint Lesson: Beginning Sounds Lesson 16
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Speech Therapy, Kindergarten, Preschool, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Presentations, Teacher Tools
Letter P Worksheets + PowerPoint Lesson Lesson 16 teaches the letter Pp and its related phonic sound through a 34-slide PowerPoint lesson, and 5 follow-up activity worksheets. All you need to teach the phonic letter P! Whether in school or at home, this series of phonic presentations can help you effectively teach initial/beginning sounds to all pupils, including those with special needs/dyslexia. This lesson is part of a synthetic, systematic phonics programme for all abilities, including those suspected of being dyslexic. This lesson is in the first stage of the Reading Made Simple programme, where we teach the initial, or beginning, sounds. The ability to hear the initial/beginning sound is stressed throughout, while we learn to associate each letter with its sound. Each lesson can stand alone, but the activities will presume knowledge of the previous letters in the alphabet as Reading Made Simple teaches the initial sounds in alphabetical order. Special features of the Letter P Worksheets and PowerPoint presentation: The PowerPoint is silent so that you can interact with your child in the best way for them: full instructions are provided at the bottom of each slide - be sure to show 'Notes'. The PowerPoint is editable so that you can make it fit your pupils. Science of Reading Aligned Truly phonetic; no 'i' for 'ice-cream'. We focus heavily on phonemic awareness, which is so necessary for a head start in phonics The child is given plenty of opportunities to learn the necessary skills - perfection is not expected in lesson 1. Still, the teacher will look for the development of the necessary skills as the child works through the alphabet. What is included in the Letter P worksheets Pack? A 34-slide PowerPoint which teaches phonemic awareness, letter/sound correspondence and letter formation, along with practice games 5 follow-up, Letter P worksheets How can this resource be used? It can be used in multiple ways: As the child learns each sound, you can use the PowerPoint lesson to reinforce your lesson It can be sent home for a child to watch with his/her parents after being taught the letter Pp in class - this will then act as revision as well as training the parent as to what is necessary to help the child. Use in class Use at home by parents or for home education Suggested Method: Introduce each letter in turn to your pupil. Have a flashcard of the letter ready. Say each letter's sound to the child and ask him/her to repeat it thrice. Explain that some words begin with this sound. Give an example. You can use the lesson as teacher training for yourself, to learn how to teach your child, or to use it with the child. Choose suitable activities (matching your child's ability) from the pack of worksheets. Notes are suggestions only. Use language appropriate to your pupil and be sure to interact naturally. However, could you focus on the child's hearing of the sounds at the beginning of words? This is often overlooked in the quest to help children learn the initial sounds as quickly as possible. Technical help: Please open PowerPoint in normal mode so you can see the notes and use the 'Draw' tool when prompted. Some slides are interactive. Guided Reading Lesson Plan & Activities Grades KG-12 (13-Book Bundle)
Reading, ELA, Reading Comprehension, Kindergarten, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
Guided Reading is a research-based instruction process whereby the teacher works with small grouping of students being equal in a particular reading achievement level. The teacher provides for each reader's development of effective reading competencies. However different than in the earlier days of reading groups, small and temporary groups are flexible and dynamic. The observance and evaluation of the progress of readers are done by teachers on a systematic basis. Thus, grouping and regrouping students is based on the strengths of students and the intense changing needs throughout their reading development. In the 1960s in New Zealand, Guided Reading was developed. It was enhanced over the years after it arrived in the United States thanks to educators like Gay Su Pinnell and Lesley Fountas. In 1996, Fountas & Pinnell published their enormously influential book, Guided Reading: Good First Teaching for All Children (Heinemann). This book changed how reading was taught, and it is still taught today to over a million teachers worldwide. The aim of Guided Reading lessons is to develop effective readers. A set of 13 books is bundled together with all 13 worksheets of the Guided Reading series for grades KG-12. There are lesson plans and different activities for every grade, with the answers in the end section of the worksheet.

Special features of the Learn Initial Sounds N: Lesson 14 The PowerPoint is silent so that you can interact with your child in the best way for them: full instructions are provided at the bottom of each slide - be sure to show 'Notes'. The PowerPoint is editable so that you can make it fit your pupils. Science of Reading Aligned Truly phonetic; no 'i' for 'ice-cream'. We focus heavily on phonemic awareness which is so necessary for a head start in phonics The child is given plenty of opportunities to learn the necessary skills - perfection is not expected in lesson 1. Still, the teacher will look for the development of the necessary skills as the child works through the alphabet. What is included in the Learn Initial Sounds N: Lesson 14? A 34-slide PowerPoint which teaches phonemic awareness, letter/sound correspondence and letter formation along with practice games 5 follow-up worksheets How can the Learn Initial Sounds N: Lesson 14 be used? It can be used in multiple ways: As the child learns each sound, you can use the PowerPoint lesson to reinforce your lesson It can be sent home for a child to watch with his/her parents after being taught the letter Nn in class - this will then act as revision as well as training the parent as to what is necessary to help the child. Short Vowels: 10 Decodable Reading Books + Supporting Worksheets/Games
ELA, Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Spelling, Special Education Needs (SEN), Special Resources, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Literacy Readers, Teacher Tools, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Games, Activities
This is the first lesson in the Reading Made Simple Learn to Read and Spell Programme for SEN Readers, teaching the short vowel /a/. It can help struggling readers achieve reading fluency, perhaps after several years of failure, even perhaps after having been taught phonics with another programme. The programme follows a course of highly structured, synthetic, systematic phonics instruction. Science of reading aligned. Based on the most up-to-date phonic research. This is the first of the 5 vowel packs, which should be undertaken in order: a, o, i, u, e. Objectives: To help children develop a core set of decodable words that they have seen enough times so that they no longer have to sound them out but can recognise them easily and recall them when needed. One of the biggest problems for struggling readers is that often, phonic reading books do not give the child a chance to see the same words again and again and so some children are forced to sound out nearly every word, which slows their speed of reading right down and means that they often cannot understand what they have read. Who is the programme for? This Learn to Read and Spell Programme is for children who have got stuck after learning to sound out CVC words and for whom reading fluency seems elusive. We gradually introduce blends gradually as one word, with a blend in the family included each week. Order, outlined and steps: The Reading Made Simple Reading and Spelling programme for struggling readers focuses the child's attention on around ten words containing the same phonic sound, at a time. For struggling readers, these lists are subdivided into two sets of 5 and the lesson is spread over 2 weeks. During these two weeks, the words are practised in various different ways: On flashcards provided Sentence building with the flashcards Speed reading of just the ten words Sentence writing activities Fluency charts Games Reading books which only contain the ten words, plus the true sight words: a, the, is in this first pack. The reading books should be used as a form of assessment and any words which the child needs to sound out ca be practised further, while you move on to the next sound. Multisensory: Children who struggle to learn to read often need a multisensory approach. This Learn to Read and Spell programme uses the power of the hand to provide the multisensory dimension so often lacking in many 'learn to read' programmes. The child not only sounds out the words to read, but also to write. The words are then put into sentences to read and write, building up as we go into longer texts Confidence building Because we are working with a discrete set of words, with the same sound, the child soon learns to recognise the words in each lesson, having sounded them out, read them, and written them many times in many fun ways. As the child reads each book, you can watch as s/he finally begins to say, 'I can do this!' as s/he meets familiar words. What is included: 2 packs of activities and worksheets 2 reading books 2 games Full teaching instructions, Directions There is a simple lesson plan that is the same each week: On Monday, introduce the new sound and 5 words as directed and teach them as explained. Tuesday to Thursday, rigorously practice the words using the activities in the pack. On Friday, do a dictation (provided) and read the book for each week. .
