Mixed Questions The mixed questions section of each lesson includes a variation of five to six comprehension, vocabulary and Math questions. Mixed questions require a written response (no MCQ's), full answers and example responses appear at the end of the lesson. Spelling & Vocab Each reading passage contains a variety of words and phrases designed for Grade 6/7 students. Spelling and vocab activities provide the opportunity to build fluency with these words. Activities provide clues to help assist students. Vocabulary activities include extra questions where students must write a synonym, an antonym or a sentence using a certain word. Writing Prompts Writing prompts are designed to continue the theme or lessons learned in the story. Students are persuaded to write in a variety of ways and each prompt includes several cues to help. If you are teaching your students about the different types of conflict in plays, novels, short stories and movies, check out this visual assignment to add to your teaching toolkit! It includes a handout which reviews the parts of a story (exposition, the rising action, climax, the falling action and the resolution) as well as the protagonist versus the antagonist. Then you can teach your students about four distinct types of conflict in all kinds of literature: 1) Character versus Character: A conflict between the main character and a villain or antagonist. 2) Character versus Society: A conflict between the main character and parts of the specific society they live within. 3) Character versus Nature: A conflict between the main character and nature including hunger, animals, or extreme weather. 4) Character versus Self: A conflict between the main character and their desires, ethics, or thoughts. Next, help your class brainstorm examples of each type of conflict from popular books, movies and plays they know. Students will illustrate each type of conflict on their graphic organizer. Introduction to Personal Finance: Dive into MONEY! This lesson serves as the kickstart to my personal finance module. While it's primarily an introductory session, it can seamlessly fit into any personal finance curriculum. The core theme explores the complexities of a barter-based economy and delves into the reasons we pivot to using money, accompanied by a precise definition of money. It's a dynamic and captivating lesson. It includes a light-hearted skit, where students, and optionally the teacher, illustrate the pitfalls of bartering. Following the skit, the spotlight shifts to understanding the essence of money and its significance. With hands-on demonstrations, students get a chance to actively participate, ensuring they remain engrossed and involved throughout the session. What is included? -The Goat Farmer and Chicken Farmer skit (props not included :-) -a power point that will define money and the challenges of a barter economy -a Federal Reserve bank publication titled: "MONEY", this is a must have resource when teaching about money! I use this resource in my 7th grade classroom, but it could be used in almost any middle or high school class. This has been a successful lesson in my economics class for almost 20 years. Teaching economics is fun!
