Graphing Activities Packet

Graphing Activities Packet
Math, Graphing, Grade 2, 3, Activities

Learning how to graph and interpret data is a math skill that many of our students really enjoy. Graphing activities come in many different formats, so students like the versatility of this skill. These activities will take your students' graphing skills to the next level as the boxes or pictures start representing more than one object - instead of just one. For instance, one flower on the graph might represent 5 actual flowers and the students will now have to count their flowers by 5s, or if a flower represents 4 flowers, a flower might be cut in half to represent 2. Each activity ends with a challenge question to take your students' thinking to the next level. This is a Graphing Activities Packet that is ideal for 2nd and 3rd grade students. It is a 3 page printable with a new graph on each page. The objective is for students to be able to analyze data on a given graph and correctly answer questions pertaining to that graph. The graphs included are: 1. Farmer Frank’s Fruit Stand (bar graph) 2. Flower Frenzy (line plot graph) 3. Looks Like Rain (pictograph) These worksheets can be used in a variety of ways: --You can send them home for homework after direct instruction. --Students can complete them as early finisher activities. --They can serve as a formative assessment to grade. --You can use them for math centers. --You can use them for review before assessments. Do I Need To Tell The Teacher? A Lesson About Tattling Versus Reporting Plus Game!

Do I Need To Tell The Teacher? A Lesson About Tattling Versus Reporting Plus Game!
Special Resources, Life Skills, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, Activities

In this Google Slideshow, students will learn about when to tell an adult for a big problem, when to solve a small (kid-sized) problem using Kelso's Choices or other strategies and when to mind their own business altogether. Read a book before this lesson such as A Bad Case Of Tattle Tongue by Julia Cook or Don't Squeal Unless It's A Big Deal by Jeanie Ransom or any one of your favorite books about the topic of tattling versus reporting. This is a topic that often needs repeating with various lessons for children! There is a 6 slide presentation and a game with 24 scenarios. When students play the game , they will pull a card if they land on a "card" square and read the scenario (look at the picture), and decide if it is a big problem, a small problem, or just none of their business. The game and cards are shown after the game instruction slide. For the younger students who may have difficulty reading the words, you could print off the cards, mix them up, and have students come to you one at a time to choose a card, you can read it for them and they can share out loud in from of the class which type of situation it is. You can also have certain gestures for each type of problem and ask the entire class to motion what they think it is. You decide! The cards all have colorful pictures and words to describe the scenario.

Writing Center Words & Write-the Room Activity – FALL

Writing Center Words & Write-the Room Activity – FALL
ELA, Writing, Creative Writing, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Centers, Activities

Let's write about Autumn! Help your students write about fall fun with these sixteen autumn themed words and images for your K-2 classroom Writing Center . Words with images include tree, falling leaves, leaf, rake, tractor, hayride, pumpkin patch, pumpkin, hay bale, corn on the cob, corn field, scarecrow, harvest, acorn, and squirrel. My students LOVE the Writing Center ! I have lots of tools and “help” available for them, plus these themed word pages which they adore. I print two of of these, so there is no argument about having to share, and I laminate them for durability before placing in the Writing Center . Students can easily grab one and use it to help write their stories. Page 4 of the PDF is for the Writing Center . Print and laminate one or two and place it in the Writing Center for your students to access as needed. Also included are 16 cards for a Write–the–Room activity if you choose to use them. (I have only used this with my Kindergarten class.) These cards are four-per-page, with the same words and images used for the Writing Center . Pages 5-8 of the PDF are cards for use as a Write-the-Room activity. You may wish to laminate for durability to be able to use year-after-year, and use sticky tack (poster putty) to mount it to walls, bookshelves, file cabinets, etc. I find this is easier than tape. On of my grade-level teachers prints in gray scale, tapes them up, and then lets students take them home after use. Whatever works best for you. Recording pages for the Write-the-Room are included on pages 9 and 10. Page 9 is a full-size recording sheet, and page 10 has 2 half-size recording sheets if you use mini-clip boards like I do. Please note - the first three pages are for "packaging" purposes.
