Sunflowers – Factual Interview Text, Glossary & Student Profile A differentiated reading activity on Helianthus annuus for grades 3–7 🌻📚 This resource offers a creative and low-prep way to introduce your students to one of the best-known summer flowers: the sunflower (Helianthus annuus). Using an age-appropriate factual text in the form of an interview, this lesson invites students to learn more about the plant’s features, growth, and significance – all while practicing reading comprehension and working independently. The main text is written as an interview with a sunflower, which makes the content more relatable and engaging for younger learners. It’s differentiated into two versions (standard and simplified) to support mixed-ability groups. A glossary is included for both versions to support vocabulary development and help students access the content on their own. What’s included: Factual text in interview form (2 levels of difficulty) Glossary for each version of the text Printable student profile to be completed after reading Photo of a sunflower (self-taken, for classroom use) Answer key for the profile Optional extension task for early finishers All materials in both full-color and black-and-white versions Format: PDF Classroom ideas: Start the lesson with the sunflower photo as a silent impulse or discussion starter. I created this winter-themed telling time activity for young learners who are practicing how to read clocks and match daily routines with specific times. The worksheets use simple winter illustrations and clear clock faces, making it easy for students to work independently without feeling overwhelmed. This resource works especially well during the winter months when students enjoy seasonal activities that are still academically meaningful. It can be used as a warm-up, a math center, a review activity, or a quiet task for early finishers. I’ve used similar time-telling sheets with my own students, and they always enjoy seeing the winter images while practicing an important math skill. I love whimsical characters. This is why much of what I create is filled with whimsical characters, including my bookmarks and cards. These adorable, whimsical, Valentines Day cards are 5 x 7 size, double-sided, high-quality images, and include an envelope template you can use again and again. Total number of cards: 8 different designs (all with cream backgrounds) Black and Grey Cat with Pink and Red Mug - Saying: "Happy Valentine's Day to a Cool Cat" Black and Grey Cat with Red Bow in Hair with Mug - Saying: "Happy Valentine's Day to a Kool Kitten? Boy and Girl holding balloons and candy - Saying "Lots of Love for Valentine's Day XOXO Framed Design in pink and dark red/burgundy - Saying "Lots of Love for Valentine's Day" Framed Red Heart with Pink Bow - Saying "With Love on Valentine's Day" Pink and Purple Card - Saying "Happy Valentine's Day LOVE - Know that I love you to the moon and back." Card with Candy Hearts - Purple, Blue/Green, Red - Saying "I Love You" - Heart sayings include "Be Mine," "True Love," "Charm Me," "Kiss Me." Card with pink and purple hearts - Saying "Today is a celebration of all love - Happy Valentine's Day." You can have students work on them for a special project. Print the cards with the envelope template for each card (print 8 copies of the envelope template), have students choose their favorite, cut the card and the envelope template, fold them, and personalize them to give to a friend or loved one. Students will Practice hands-on craft skills (cutting, folding, pasting, problem solving with the challenge of properly creating an envelope from the template). Practice handwriting and spelling, proper grammar (including use of capitalization for proper nouns, at the beginning of sentence, proper use of commas and periods). Practice proper addressing of an envelope in preparation of sending in the mail, which is an important life skill. Greeting cards are not age specific. If the student can't read or write, they can draw pictures inside their card and get help from peers and teachers.
