Looking for an “All About Me” bio poem activity that actually gets your students writing (and sharing a bit about themselves)? At the start of the year, I always find that some students are excited to talk… and others just don’t know what to say or write. That’s where this has worked really well in my classroom. This bio poem activity gives students a simple structure to follow, so they’re not stuck staring at a blank page. The templates guide them step by step, and the simile prompts help them add a bit more detail and personality to their writing without overthinking it. I usually start by showing them an example (there’s one included), and we talk through it together. After that, they brainstorm their own ideas and use the notebook-style templates to draft their poem. It’s very manageable, even for students who aren’t confident writers yet. Once they’ve written their poem, they can create a neat final version using the publishing page. These look great displayed in the classroom, and students genuinely enjoy reading about each other. Everything is included to make it easy to run as a full lesson—there’s a simple lesson plan to follow, plus a rubric if you want to assess the writing without spending ages on marking. Printable Chemistry Pennants – Christmas Classroom Decor I made this banner because I wanted something simple to hang in my classroom during the weeks before the holidays — something that looked nice but still connected to chemistry. These are small triangle flags, each showing one element from the main group, with symbol, name, and atomic number. The design has a bit of a holiday touch but it’s not loud or silly, so it works even if you don’t go all-in on Christmas decorations. What I like about it is that I can just print it, cut it out, and hang it up, and it brings colour to the room without much effort. The students walk past it every day, and after a while they start to recognise elements just from seeing them over and over again. It’s not a big thing, but I’ve noticed that small exposures like that can really help, especially for the students who don’t memorize things easily. I printed mine on heavier paper and used some string and tape to hang it across the whiteboard. One year I laminated them so I could use them again the next time, and they held up really well. You can hang them in a line, in clusters, or just tape them to cabinets or doors — whatever fits your classroom. Sometimes I also use them as a starting point. I might ask a student to pick one element from the banner and tell me something about it, or we do a quick warm-up based on the symbols they see. But most of the time, it’s just there, and that’s enough. It makes the space feel less grey in December, and still keeps the focus on science.
