World Cup 2026 Canada Pennant Banner This Canada pennant banner was createdƒ for the World Cup period. Students often notice international events, so adding a small decoration felt like a simple way to reflect that. The banner can be printed in color, but I sometimes use the black-and-white pages first so my students can color a few pennants before assembling them. After cutting, the pieces can be connected with string or ribbon. I hung the finished banner along a shelf, although it also works above the board or on a classroom door. The layout is straightforward and doesn’t feel too busy, which helps when it stays up for several days. Depending on time, the activity can be skipped and the colored version used directly. Both options are easy to prepare. The file is provided as a printable PDF. Laminating is optional if you plan to reuse the banner later. Dog Cards to Colour – Easy Classroom Activity for the Week Before Break I made these dog cards last year for my class because that last week before the holidays is always kind of messy and loud, and I just needed something simple and quiet. The idea was to have something that felt a bit festive without needing a lot of prep, and also without turning the classroom into glitter chaos. The cards are just black and white drawings of different dogs wearing hats or scarves, nothing complicated, just cute. I printed them out on slightly thicker paper, gave the kids pencils and markers, and that was it. Some of the students took a lot of time choosing which dog they liked best. Others just grabbed one and started colouring right away. A few wanted to do more than one. I didn’t make any rules around it. Some kids added a message inside, others didn’t. A couple of students wrote little notes to the janitor or their families. One card even ended up on the classroom door with a note for our imaginary school dog (we don’t actually have one, but they like to pretend). It was sweet. We didn’t tie it to any lesson plan, I didn’t grade it, and I didn’t ask for a final product. It was just something they could do to wind down. We listened to quiet music, and honestly, it was one of the calmest hours of the whole month. They were focused, but relaxed. And because it was dogs, even students who usually don’t enjoy drawing stayed with it. If I had to describe it, I’d say it’s a quiet little task that gives students something to do with their hands and minds when they don’t have a lot of focus left. Looking for an “All About Me” bio poem activity that actually gets your students writing (and sharing a bit about themselves)? At the start of the year, I always find that some students are excited to talk… and others just don’t know what to say or write. That’s where this has worked really well in my classroom. This bio poem activity gives students a simple structure to follow, so they’re not stuck staring at a blank page. The templates guide them step by step, and the simile prompts help them add a bit more detail and personality to their writing without overthinking it. I usually start by showing them an example (there’s one included), and we talk through it together. After that, they brainstorm their own ideas and use the notebook-style templates to draft their poem. It’s very manageable, even for students who aren’t confident writers yet. Once they’ve written their poem, they can create a neat final version using the publishing page. These look great displayed in the classroom, and students genuinely enjoy reading about each other. Everything is included to make it easy to run as a full lesson—there’s a simple lesson plan to follow, plus a rubric if you want to assess the writing without spending ages on marking. I’ve found this works especially well as a getting-to-know-you activity, but it also fits nicely into poetry or writing lessons any time of the year.
