How to Use: Students will get a card for the pile. Students will practice reading the word on the card, using the dots and arrows as a finger guide to reading the word. Once they feel confident that they know the word they read, they will open the card to reveal a picture of the word they read. When to Use: Literacy Center - Students can work independently or with a partner to read these short u words. Morning Tub or Basket - The cards can be placed in a morning bin for students to work on as students arrive to class. Small Group Activity - The teacher can choose a small group of students or a specific group of words for students to work on in a small group setting with the teacher. The fact that the teacher can easily choose which words to include inside a center or activity, allows the teacher to easily differentiate this activity for her students. The bold, colorful, easy to recognize pictures allow students to complete this center independently, by providing pictures they should already recognize that match the words they are practicing to read. The cards do require some prep work to put together, but once created, they will provide a long term center or activity for your classroom. They need to be printed, cut apart and folding into thirds to create the read and reveal nature of this activity.

Prime Factor Trees to Find Perfect Squares and Perfect Cubes 8th 9th

Here is a ready-to-use math lesson to teach your students in 8th or 9th grade how to find perfect squares and how to find perfect cubes using prime factorization and prime factor trees. It includes a clear handout with helpful visuals, step-by-step instructions, three pages of student worksheets, and a complete answer key so no prep is needed! Your students will gain a comprehensive understanding of perfect squares & perfect cubes by applying their knowledge of prime numbers and prime factorization to identify them! How to Use: Print a 4-page worksheet packet for each student. Go through the first page handout together as a class. Teach students how to create prime factor trees using the included step-by-step instructions. Go through two samples to show students how to use the prime factor tree to identify perfect squares and perfect cubes (look for two identical groups of prime factors or three identical groups of prime factors). Give students time to create 12 more prime factor trees for the included numbers. They will identify four perfect cubes, four perfect squares, three numbers that are neither, and one number (64) that is both! Review the work as a class and answer any questions. Spiders, scientifically known as "arachnids," are fascinating to many people, especially kids. And there are so many different kinds. I learned a lot while creating this reading comprehension activities pack. Kids will read the article (link provided to the article inside product) and answer the questions. Many of the questions are fill in the blank, some are multiple choice, some true/false. There are also multiple essay question, writing prompts. And a bonus section for motivated students to look at what the Bible says about living things. Students will be given the opportunity to choose which side they are on regarding evolution vs creation, without judgment. They will be required to research and support the side they choose in their essays. Answer keys are included for the objective questions. The product is simple: 31 questions, including multiple choice, true/false, plus two short writing prompt type questions, one of which is partly subjective, but requires a thoughtful answer. Extra credit questions are included. 33 vocabulary words - can be used to increase student comprehension, increase scientific vocabulary, and can be used for alphabetizing and/or spelling tests. 8 Bible verse references - Bible as literature is an allowed subject in the public schools. Also, just looking up verses and drawing your own conclusions should align with standards. This activity is optional, of course. One bonus activity for students to write their thoughts on the 8 Bible verses. Two essay questions, one considered a "challenge." Can be used for extra motivated students or students who are trying to improve their grade. Of course, any writing a student does will build your writing fluency, especially when writing is done in a variety of fields, including, science, history, literature, etc. Answer keys for objective questions. My products are never grade specific, because students are at different levels even when they are at he same grade level in school. Probably 4th through high school would be the most appropriate.
