Critical Thinking: Critical Problem Solving - FLASH-MAC Paves the Way for Enhanced Learning The Critical Problem Solving Graphic Organizer mini is a progressive teaching tool, expertly designed with teachers and students in mind. By mimicking real-world problem-solving experiences, this resource is a fantastic way to introduce critical thinking within the classroom setting. This resource is specifically targeted at those studying Language Arts in grades 5 through 8. This step-by-step interactive software offers students the opportunity to solve presented problems by physically dragging and arranging elements on-screen. To begin with, they identify the highlighted problem from a given situation and move it to Step 1. Following this initial stage, three potential solutions are showcased, allowing for comprehensive solution analysis. Students are encouraged to critically evaluate each option before selecting what they consider as most apt. This chosen solution gets dragged onto Step 4 which then reveals its outcome. The final stage requires pupils to assess this outcome alongside their initial problem - deciphering whether their chosen solution has effectively solved it or not. Arkansas River Float Activity
Social Studies, Geography, Grade 6, 7, 8, Activities
This is an Arkansas River Float Activity. The goal of this game for students is to be the first to float the Arkansas River. To do this, students must advance their team from city to city by working sections of problems correctly. Once each team finishes a section of questions, they can check in with the teacher. If everyone is correct, that team will advance to the next city. If incorrect, they will need to find and fix their mistakes before they check in again. There is a short video tutorial within the PowerPoint that explains how to run the game . Directions to Teacher Before Game : On the map screen, edit the box in bottom left corner to show the problems you want students to complete. Each section of problems on their packet/worksheet corresponds to a section of the river (e.g. Section 1 is between Start and Pueblo, Section 2 is between Pueblo and Dodge City, etc.) Edit “ Game Rules” slide to suit your preferences. Show this to students before starting the game . To Run the Game : Put PowerPoint in presentation mode. Click box A in top left corner of screen to advance the purple team down the river, box B to advance the green team, etc. Each click of the box will advance that team to the next city. If you accidently advance a team too far, keep clicking on their box. It will eventually loop back around. Beware: once you exit presentation mode, all PowerPoint animations will be reset!

Persuasive organizational techniques: Students get a chance to familiarize themselves with techniques used in persuasive essays like using emotive language or repetition. Vocabulary selection: The guide emphasizes on selecting the right vocabulary words. Mechanics improvement:The package pays special attention encouraging correct usage of grammar fundamentals like spelling mechanics or punctuation. Additional attributes include guiding pupils towards customizing content based on targeted reader types; acknowledging that writing differs depending upon who will be reading it enormously expands student comprehension levels about context-based effective communication. Model answers created by proficient authors are provided alongside sample texts which are bound to spark creativity among students, encouraging them to think outside the box and nurturing their unique tendencies. The collection also comes with practise questions that have been carefully curated to help students firmly grasp all learning points, giving them a competitive edge through improved grades. After all, as educators, we're more interested in promoting genuine improvement rather than merely aiming for higher scores! Appropriately enough, this resource can be used during lively group discussions where a variety of thoughts are being shared. It can also be used for smaller group activities where individual attention is beneficial or even set as homework tasks to facilitate ongoing independent learning. In conclusion, "Practise Writing A Balanced Argument In A Letter" is a comprehensive resource that marries theoretical learning with practical application perfectly.

The Constitution is A Living Document: A Project to Assess Knowledge and Understanding
Social Studies, Government, Grade 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Projects, Activities
The most important thing about this project, The Consitution is a Living Document, is how students truly internalize how the Constitution is not just some old stuffy document but really is alive in our lives and protects our rights and our democracy. I have had students come back to me when they are in high school to tell me how much they got out of this project. I have also had several students tell me they helped their immigrant parents pass the citizenship test. They were able to teach their parents about our government. My favorite is how many 8th-grade students tell me they are now interested in current events and regularly follow the news! The purpose of this project, The Consitution is a Living Document, is to assess students’ knowledge and understanding of the Constitution. The project is divided into 3 sections. The first section focuses on the Constitution, particularly Articles 1, 2, and 3. They will write an essay and then read 3 news articles that connect to each of these articles. They will summarize the articles and analyze how this news event connects to each of these articles. In Section 2, students will write an essay on the Bill of Rights and Amendments and read 7 more current events news articles, summarize them, and then analyze how each event connects to a specific amendment. The third section includes a Conclusion essay in which they reflect back on what they learned about themselves, doing a project of this magnitude, and about the Constitution, and a Bibliography. This is a comprehensive project and will take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks. For each section, I provide lesson plans with objectives and learning targets aligned with the Common Core Standards. teacher directions, student directions, handouts, graphic organizers, check-off sheets, and rubrics. This project could be easily modified to fit a shorter time frame. With modifications, it is appropriate for students in 6th through 12th grades. This project is part of my unit: “Our Living Consitution” which is designed using the Into, Through, and Beyond model of lesson planning. This project can be taught independently, but it is an excellent summative assessment for all my lessons on the Constitution in my unit. The lessons in the Constitution unit can be used independently or as a supplement to what you already teach or as a whole. Here is a summary of what is in the unit: Into Lessons: Creating Schema Lesson 1: Overview of the Constitution of the United States of America Slideshow and Notetaker Lesson 2: Origins of the Constitution Essential Terms and Notetaker Lesson 3: The Seven Principles of the Constitution Through Lessons: Learning the Content Lesson 4: The Goals of the Preamble, which includes a Preamble Project Lesson 5: The Three Branches of Government: Articles 1, 2, and 3 Lesson 6: How a Bill Becomes a Law and Project Lesson 7: Federalism and the System of Checks and Balances Lesson 8: Articles 4-7 Lesson 9: The Bill of Rights Unit (and a Little About Amendments 11-27) Extras (from the Unit: Every Four Years… The Presidential Election) Lesson 10: What Are Your Political Viewpoints? Lesson 11: Major and Minor Political Parties Lesson 12: A Brief History of Who Can Vote Lesson 13: Nuts and Bolts of the Presidential Election Beyond Lessons: Summative Assessments Study Guides and Tests are included, with many of the lessons Two Comprehensive Projects to Assess Knowledge and Understanding: --The Constitution is a Living Document Project --The Bill of Rights Explained Project

The Giver (2014): Complete Movie Guide
ELA, Literature, Grade 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Activities
"The Giver" is a 2014 movie based on the novel of the same name by Lois Lowry. The movie is set in a seemingly utopian society where all pain, suffering, and conflict have been eradicated. The society is tightly controlled, and everyone is assigned a role at the age of 18. The movie follows Jonas, a young man who is selected to become the Receiver of Memory, a highly respected and secretive position in the community. Jonas is mentored by the Giver, an older man who holds all of the memories of the past, including the painful ones that the community has chosen to forget. As Jonas learns about the past, he becomes disillusioned with the strict rules and lack of freedom in his society. He decides to take action and plans to escape with a baby who is scheduled to be "released," a term that he discovers means to be euthanized. As Jonas and the baby flee, the community becomes aware of their absence, and the Chief Elder sends out a search party to find them. Jonas and the baby encounter many dangers on their journey, but eventually, they make it to the edge of the community, where they find a sled waiting for them. Jonas realizes that the sled is a memory from the Giver and uses it to escape over a hill, where they see a glimpse of a more colorful and vibrant world. "The Giver" movie explores themes of individuality, conformity, memory, and the cost of a perfect society. It stars Brenton Thwaites as Jonas, Jeff Bridges as the Giver, and Meryl Streep as the Chief Elder. This 22-question guide will help your students get the most out of this powerful movie. This product also includes a section for book vs. movie comparison (I have included a teacher key for this section as well, but obviously students will come up with different answers for this section). Lastly, this product comes complete with a teacher key and character guide. Ready to print and ready to use!
