Robert Boyle – Exploring the Foundations of Modern Chemistry A short reading and activity set for grades 7–10 (PDF + H5P) ⚗️📘 A printable and digital resource This material introduces students to Robert Boyle, a 17th-century scientist often considered one of the founders of modern chemistry. His work on gases and scientific experimentation is still relevant today, especially when students first encounter Boyle’s Law or the basics of pressure and volume. The text and tasks are structured in a way that makes them easy to use in a regular lesson or even in a non-specialist substitute setting. Students work independently or in pairs to read, reflect, and test their understanding. Included in this resource: Informational text on Robert Boyle and his contributions Profile worksheet to guide understanding Quiz questions with solutions Two optional follow-up tasks: – Students write their own questions about the text – Partner activity: exchange and answer peer questions Formats: – Printable PDF – Editable DOCX (text only) – H5P version for interactive, digital use Classroom use: I’ve used materials like this to complement lessons on gas laws or to introduce a historical perspective on chemistry. It works well as part of a science unit, a literacy-focused lesson, or even during quiet working phases. Students read the short info text, fill out a profile sheet, and complete the quiz. The additional tasks are great for early finishers or small group work. The H5P version is useful for digital platforms and allows students to check their answers independently. No special preparation is needed – just print or upload and the activity is ready to go. Have fun exploring the world of science with your students! Warmly, Lernfitness Did You Know? Titanic Social Stratification Simulation
Social Studies, History, Psychology, Grade 8, 9, 10, 11, Activities, Projects
Abandon Ship! Social Stratification Simulation Teacher Guide Intro: This is a great class period activity to introduce and/or demonstrate the pervasiveness of social stratification. Step by Step Instructions: Sort students into groups of 8. If a group has less than 8 than students may need to assume multiple roles Assign each student a role, and hand them the “handout” for their character. They will assume this role. Their objective is to secure a spot on the lifeboat. Give students a couple of minutes to read their handout and get familiar with their character. Assemble students in groups physically. Inform them they are to create a list of 5 members that will be granted access on the lifeboat. Under no circumstances will more than 5 members be allowed a spot- it would cause the raft to potentially sink. Give students a 15 minute timer to complete their list of 5. Make sure students know that they each need to share out to the group all of the details about their character. It is important that students base their decisions on the facts. After selections are made have students return to typical seats and go through the discussion questions together The slides provide a handful of reflection questions but feel free to use your own. I like to try to investigate what students chose not to share. For example, often the elementary school teacher opts not to share they are $89,000 in debt. This can start a great conversation around how societal standards invoke shame on those in difficult financial standing Notes: I often offer a couple points extra credit, or a piece of candy, or some other kind of incentive to those that gain a spot on the boat. I recommend this to boost engagement and bring more passion to the activity. I try to not let students see the character sheets of other characters, to create a little “gamesmanship” Consider adding bullet points to characters to make them more complex before printing the sheets Take A Look At More Of My Best Sellers: Major Supreme Court Cases Slides Crash Course Government Episode 5 Worksheet Constitutional Clauses Slides + Worksheet Arctic Survival Team Building Activity American Election Slides + Guided Notes Crash Course Government Episode 18 Worksheet Enjoy More From My Store Here: Active Social Studies
