Emotions Fan
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Social Skills, Special Education Needs (SEN), Not Grade Specific, Activities
IUnderstanding emotions is a key social-emotional learning goal for young children. When children can identify and label their own feelings and recognize emotions in others, they gain skills that benefit social relationships and self-regulation abilities. This engaging emotions fan activity helps teach children to connect emotional words and facial expressions. The resource includes 15 illustrated fans depicting different emotions. Vivid facial expressions clearly convey the feelings happy, sad, scared, tired, worried, excited, angry, disappointed, silly, jealous, confused, poorly, disgusted, surprised and embarrassed. By matching the facial cues to emotion words, children build their emotional vocabulary and recognition skills. Caregivers can prompt conversations about each feeling, as well as when and why we experience different emotions. Learning about emotions builds self-awareness. Children will gain tools to articulate their own feelings, rather than acting out. The fan pieces also encourage nonverbal children to communicate emotions through visuals. Beyond self-understanding, these materials teach valuable empathy and social skills. Recognizing others' emotions helps foster supportive social relationships. With colorful illustrations and essential vocabulary, this activity engages children in learning about feelings. By linking facial expressions and words, children will gain emotional awareness and language to express themselves. This promotes self-regulation and social-emotional competencies that allow preschool and early elementary students to identify, understand, and navigate emotions effectively. Multi-Step Problems with Rational Numbers NOTES & PRACTICE
Math, Algebra, Grade 7, Activities
This resource was developed to meet the requirements of the 7th Grade Expressions & Equations Standards below: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.EE .B.3 Solve multi-step real-life and mathematical problems posed with positive and negative rational numbers in any form (whole numbers, fractions, and decimals), using tools strategically. Apply properties of operations to calculate with numbers in any form; convert between forms as appropriate; and assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies. For example: If a woman making $25 an hour gets a 10% raise, she will make an additional 1/10 of her salary an hour, or $2.50, for a new salary of $27.50. If you want to place a towel bar 9 3/4 inches long in the center of a door that is 27 1/2 inches wide, you will need to place the bar about 9 inches from each edge; this estimate can be used as a check on the exact computation.

Ice Cream Graph Activity
Math, Graphing, Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, Activities
If you are looking for exciting and impactful ways to have students practice with organizing data and graphing, look no more! This is an Ice Cream Graph Activity for your students to take part in. It may be used best with 2nd – 5th grade math students. In this data and graphing activity, students will collect data on their favorite ice cream flavors before organizing it into a graph. Here’s what the lesson might look like as an introduction to, or review of, graphing… o Explain to the students that they will be choosing the flavor of ice cream they like the best out of chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate chip. o Give each student an ice cream cone and allow time for them to color it according to the flavor they’ve chosen. It must look like that flavor, or it won’t count as useful data! o As students finish coloring their ice cream cones, have them tape their cones randomly to the board. o When all ice cream cones have been taped to the board, ask the class some questions. The point is to show students that it’s very difficult to read this data because it isn’t organized. This is where graphing comes in very handy! o You may either do this yourself or ask for student helpers but sort out the cones according to flavors on the board. Explain that the students will be making a pictograph on their own paper while you make one either on the floor or on a board all students can see. o Together, create a graph for these ice cream flavors. Students will need to decide on a title and a key. o When the graph is complete, discuss the kinds of answers someone can determine from this graph (e.g., 4 students like vanilla the best, more students like chocolate than chocolate chip, etc.) As a class, make a list of possible questions you could ask others to answer based on the data shown on your graph.
