This beginning sound sort is a great hands on activity for recognizing the most common sound of each letter of the alphabet. This is an easy and fun activity to give students who need practice with recognizing or for those students who need extra practice distinguishing between the initial sounds in words. To complete this sorting activity , students will look at a picture cards to determine what sound the picture starts with, and then the students will place the card on the correct mat. This sort uses real photographs so students will easily recognize each image card. This sorting activity includes: One sorting mat for each letter of the alphabet 6 picture cards for each letter of the alphabet This beginning sound sort can be used in the following ways Literacy Center: The teacher can place this sort in a literacy center for students to complete. Morning Work: These worksheets make a great, easy to set up activity for students to complete as classmates arrive to class. Quiet Time Activity: Students who do not nap can complete this sort while their classmates rest. Small Group Activity: Teachers can call aside small groups of students who need more help with sound recognition to complete these in a small group setting. Early Finishers: Students who finish their classroom assignments early can help fill the extra time by completing one of these worksheets. Emergency Sub Plans - These easy to assign worksheets allows subs to provide an engaging activity with little effort or planning. If making a file folder game, the teacher will place the mats on either side of the folder and use hook and loop fasteners to sort the pictures.
