50 Math Puzzles for Grade 8

50 Math Puzzles for Grade 8
Math, Grade 8, Activities, Worksheets & Printables

Eighth grade math has three main ideas. First, kids learn about expressions and equations. They use these to show how two things relate and solve number problems. They also learn about lines on a graph. Second, they learn what a function is. A function is like a rule. It says that one thing leads to only one other thing. Functions help show how amounts change together. Third, they study shapes in 2D and 3D. They learn about distance and angles. They see how shapes can be the same or just look the same. They also learn the Pythagorean Theorem. Kids use line equations to show and solve different problems. They understand that a function is a rule. For each thing you put in, you get only one thing out. Functions show how one amount depends on another. Kids use what they know about distance and angles with shapes. They see how shapes move, turn, and flip. They learn when shapes are exactly the same or just the same shape but different sizes. This helps them understand and solve shape problems. This paper has 50 math puzzles. These puzzles help students practice all the things they just learned. The answers are at the end.

28th Amendment Project

28th Amendment Project
Social Studies, History, History: USA, Government, Grade 8, 9, 10, 11, Activities, Projects

Without a doubt, history is a topic that can be easily overlooked by our students. Sometimes, it can be difficult for them to make connections with the past in a way that makes sense to them. Being able to provide students with meaningful resources is the best way to get over this learning curve. Whenever you have a social studies topic to introduce or review, you want to find engaging products that you know your students will be able to learn from. Within my store, you will find a plethora of social studies resources to utilize with your students. What You Get: This is a 28th Amendment Project. There are 10 slides in the presentation and 2 pages for the brainstorming chart, which is an editable Word document. This is an inquiry learning project that will challenge students to consider what amendment they would seek to have passed if a 28th amendment could be added. The presentation provides brief explanations and guides students through brainstorming. How To Implement This Resource: You should print off enough copies of the brainstorming chart for each student to have, so they can make notes on it as they follow along with the presentation. Encourage them to make notes on the back of the paper or on separate pieces of paper until they are sure about the amendment they think should be implemented. As you work through the presentation, you will be taking students through a brainstorming process about adding a 28th Amendment. Some things students will consider are: -- Issues that exist with how the Constitution works -- Social issues or financial issues within the country -- Which groups of people might oppose a certain amendment -- Finding reputable sources, without a motive, for their research These slides provide great opportunity for engagement and whole group discussion before students dive into their research. Allow students the opportunity to get creative and continue discussions throughout the research process. I hope you enjoy!

These dental health themed number cards are perfect for students who are learning with a dental theme. They make the perfect tool for students to learn the names of the number. What is Included: This set includes one number card and one number word card for all numbers up to 20. Ways to Use the Cards: Play a matching game by matching the numbers to their number words. Attach a paper clip to a number card and use a magnetic fishing pole to "catch" the numbers for a fun fishing game. Use a sand or salt tray for students to practice writing the numbers or number words on each card. Have students find the numbers that you have hidden around the room for a fun number hunt. Place the number cards in numerical order. Create a pocket char game where you place the cards on a pocket chart and hide a picture behind one of the numbers. The students will guess which number the hidden picture is behind. Add objects so students can count to the number on the card. When to Use: Math Center - Place the cards in a math center for students to match independently or with a partner. Morning Tubs or Baskets - Place the cards in a morning bin for students to work on while their classmates arrive to class. Small Group Activities - The teacher can pull aside a small group of students who need extra practice identifying numbers and number words. Simply print, cut apart and laminate for durability. These cards can be stored in a task box for easy set up, clean up, and storage. The time before the holidays can get a little crazy in the classroom. Students are ready for a break and teachers are too! Keep your class engaged with EIGHT Days of math review! The ACTIVITIES are suitable for 5th grade and 6th grade. They are great for easy and fast sub plans. I use them as an 'end of the day carrot' that my students look forward to. They can't leave for the day without getting a step closer to finding Santa so it helps them to stay focused throughout the day so that we have time for the fun activity at the end of the day. One of the best parts: NO PREP required! This is not only great for distance learning but also great if you have run out of copies for the month and need a digital version fast... or if you just forget to make your copies for the week. (It's happened to me! - too. many things to keep track of) The pages do print beautiful in color and black and white if you have the time, but don't fret if you don't. Just assign it on Google Classroom - directions included. If you haven't taught the topic yet, it is a great mini lesson and if you have taught it, it can act as a review. (There are also some fun logic puzzles sprinkled in.) dividing decimals multiplying decimals dividing whole numbers multiplying whole numbers adding decimals subtracting decimals deducing information measurement conversions practicing with money problem solving graphing predicting and having fun! Each task builds off the next. Students will get clues as to where Santa might be hiding AFTER they correctly solve each math task. And don't worry, there is an ANSWER KEY. This resource lends itself to independent work but students can also work in groups of pairs to solve. Don't forget about the other holidays! There is a themed math activity in my store for each of the following: St. Patrick's Day: Find the Leprechaun Easter: Find the Easter Bunny Cinco de Mayo: Find the Piñata
