Bank Account Board Game: A Fun, Financial Literacy Lesson for Addition, Subtraction, or Integer Practice (Grades 3-7)

Bank Account Board Game: A Fun, Financial Literacy Lesson for Addition, Subtraction, or Integer Practice (Grades 3-7)
Special Resources, Life Studies, Special Education Needs (SEN), Life Skills, Math, Addition and Subtraction, Addition, Subtraction, Money, Finance, Home Economics, Grade 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, Activities, Games

Bank Account Board Game: A Fun, Financial Literacy Lesson for Addition, Subtraction, or Integer Practice (Grades 3-7) Do you want to give your students real world math practice for addition and subtraction up to 4 digits? Do you want to show them how the math they learn in the classroom is helpful in everyday life? Do you want to find a way to have them practice loads of math without even noticing? Then this financial literacy board game is perfect for you! How to Use: Print the two page handout double-sided for each student. Go through the bank account vocabulary together as a class. Then give your students time to try to match the vocabulary words to the clues. Next, talk about what actions help your bank balance and what actions hurt it, and try to think of more examples as a class. Now you are ready for the game! Print a game board for each group of 2-4 students, have six-sided dice, and small objects to use as counters. The game’s main objective is to educate students about financial literacy concepts such as spending (withdrawing) and saving (depositing) money within the context of a bank account. Each child takes turns rolling a six-sided die while using counters on the board. Students start with a $300 bank balance, and each turn leads them to a realistic scenario that increases or decreases their balance. I encourage students to use a scrap piece of paper to keep a running tally of their balance throughout the game. Although rare, some sequences of turns can result in negative balances. If this occurs, you can help your students use integers to calculate a negative balance OR create a rule that students can not have a balance below zero, so they can not complete that action and must miss. a turn. Grades to Use With: This game is perfect for students in grades 3-7 who are practicing adding and subtracting with numbers into the thousands. It can be used as a review for this math skill or in conjunction with a financial literacy unit. What's Included: 4 Page PDF: Teacher Instructions 2 Page Lesson/Worksheet 1 Page Game Board

50 Math Puzzles for Grade 8

50 Math Puzzles for Grade 8
Math, Grade 8, Activities, Worksheets & Printables

Eighth grade math has three main ideas. First, kids learn about expressions and equations. They use these to show how two things relate and solve number problems. They also learn about lines on a graph. Second, they learn what a function is. A function is like a rule. It says that one thing leads to only one other thing. Functions help show how amounts change together. Third, they study shapes in 2D and 3D. They learn about distance and angles. They see how shapes can be the same or just look the same. They also learn the Pythagorean Theorem. Kids use line equations to show and solve different problems. They understand that a function is a rule. For each thing you put in, you get only one thing out. Functions show how one amount depends on another. Kids use what they know about distance and angles with shapes. They see how shapes move, turn, and flip. They learn when shapes are exactly the same or just the same shape but different sizes. This helps them understand and solve shape problems. This paper has 50 math puzzles. These puzzles help students practice all the things they just learned. The answers are at the end.

This e or ee? Phonic Game is a listening game to help the child to hear the ‘ee’ sound in words, as different to the ‘e’ sound as some children have difficulty hearing the new ‘ee’ sound. This is a simple oral game for 2 players to help to develop the ability to hear the sounds as separate in words without the need to worry about text yet. No die needed. These children may have auditory processing difficulties, of which there are growing numbers of children. With the recognition of the needs of these children and timely intervention, many can survive school. Sadly without it, they may soon fall behind. If you have a child who cannot hear the graphemes in words easily, then find or make a game to help. This is one such game you can use. Background to why I made this game One of my pupils has a speech delay. When I introduced him to ‘ee’, he tried to sound out the words by saying ‘e’ instead of ‘ee’. It was as if ‘ee’ was a foreign sound to him. So, I devised this game to help him to hear the ‘ee’ sound in words he uses frequently in speech. After playing it a few times he is now happily sounding out to read and spell words with the ‘ee’ sound. Who can use thee or ee? Phonic Game? Anyone who is teaching a child who shows difficulty learning to read words with /ee/, trying instead to say /e/.
