At the top of the journal entry, students will complete the sentence frame “Write the meaning of ___________ in your own words.” Then students will use the lines below to write a definition. In the empty space below that, students will draw a picture of an example of the word they just wrote about. There is no limit to how this vocabulary journal can be applied. You may choose to use it at the start of a new science unit when students are being introduced to new science vocabulary.
