Alkali Metals Concept Wheel – Interactive Chemistry Activity for Grades 7–10 Learn Alkali Metals - visual learning 🧪🧠 This concept wheel is a practical way to help students understand the alkali metals in Group 1 of the periodic table. I first made it for a grade 8 class that was struggling with the idea of chemical families. Instead of giving them another chart to copy, I tried this wheel activity, and it worked much better because they could see and handle the information piece by piece. The wheel has eight sections that cover the basics: general properties, reactivity, how these elements appear in nature, and some everyday uses. Students cut out and arrange the pieces to build the full circle. The activity takes a little bit of preparation, but once the pieces are made, you can reuse them. I usually store the sets in small envelopes so they are ready for the next lesson. There are different versions included. Some circles are already filled in, which is helpful when introducing the topic for the first time. Others are blank, so students can write their own notes after a lab or reading assignment. I have used the blank ones during review sessions, and students liked comparing their wheels with a partner’s version. It also gives them a sense of ownership over the material. The wheel can be used in many ways: as a warm-up before a lab, as practice during a unit on the periodic table, or as a review before a quiz. It works for group tasks, but I have also had students complete it on their own. When the wheels are finished, they make a clear visual display for the classroom or for a student’s notebook. This activity is designed for grades 7–10 chemistry or physical science. U.S. Presidents and Voting Activities

If your curriculum includes teaching about the U.S. Presidents and/or voting, then this is the product for you. If you are teaching about one, but not the other, then you get a bonus set of worksheets and activities. Either way, it’s a big win, especially for your 8th graders, 8th graders, and 9th graders. Learners in those grades will be fully engaged in several U.S. History, Civics, ELA, and research assignments. Concepts presented meet the requirements of current state standards. But the best part is that learners will not simply memorize facts for a test and quickly forget them. Instead, they will research, create, and use reasoning skills while learning about topics which they can use throughout their lives. They will be introduced to the requirements of being U.S. President, fun facts about previous presidents and First Ladies, and the history of our country’s two major political parties. Then, learners will move on to learn about campaigning with slogans and political ads. Finally, they’ll focus on the timeline of voting, crucial issues, and whether voting is a right, privilege, or responsibility. In all of these activities, learners will research, design and draw, poll/interview peers and adults, as well as effectively use three different types of writing. The product is rounded out with a set of task cards in which learners will answer questions regarding U.S. Presidents. You simply cannot go wrong with this product. Use it in November while teaching about voting. Then, in February, use it again for Presidents’ Day. Many of the activities can be used in large or small group settings. They also work well for individual or homework assignments. Many pages are available in a color version, while all are available in black & white. This product also contains a set of full color Power Point slides to correspond with the political party assignment. Below are the details of each activity found within this product. PAGE 1: learners will read the requirements to be U.S. President and answer questions about their eligibility and reasons for wanting to hold this office. PAGE 2: learners will read clues about 10 First Ladies and use research skills to determine which of the presidents’ wives is being described. PAGE 3: learners will learn about attack ads and write an opinion piece as to whether or not they think attack ads should be used in political campaigning. PAGES 4-5: stationery for the opinion writing piece PAGE 6: learners will read 5 newspaper headlines and facts about U.S. Presidents. Then, they will research whether the information is true or false. PAGE 7: learners will choose to write a newspaper article on the resignation of Richard Nixon or the assassination of John F. Kennedy. PAGE 8: learners will read unique campaign slogans from former U.S. Presidents. Then, they will create their own slogan. PAGE 9: learners will create a television commercial, social media feed video, or campaign flyer to get their message out about running for office. PAGE 10: learners will fill-in the blanks of the last names of 10 former U.S. Presidents and then find said names in the wordsearch. PAGE 11: learners will complete a crossword puzzle using clues about former U.S. Presidents. PAGE 12: learners will use the Power Point slides to learn about our country’s two major political parties. They will use the information to answer 8 questions. PAGES 13-14: lists of U.S. Presidents and their political party to be used with various activities. This fully editable Lab Station on Ecological Succession is meant to get your students out of their seats and engaged in the content. Each station not only offers a unique opportunity to test your students' knowledge (offer an opinion, answer questions based on a video or reading, draw, etc.), but also provides a fantastic learning opportunity where your kids are learning through assessment. Each station comes with a description card while some also contain more detailed instructions, a reading, questions to answer, etc. Students are equipped with a recording sheet (passport) to write their answers. There is almost no prep for you. Simply print the cards, lay them out around the room and you're all set. An answer key is also provided where applicable. This lab activity covers: - Primary Succession - Secondary Succession - The Role of Forest Fires in an Ecosystem - Pond Succession ---------------------------------------------- Bonus Activities: To ensure your students don’t have any downtime between stations, your lab also includes a 10-word word scramble and word search, both with an answer key. You can use them as part of their mark, as a bonus so it’s not mandatory, etc. However you choose to use it, it will ensure that your students are always busy and never idle. Station 3: Explain yourself – students write down an opinion to a question in paragraph form. Station 4: Rest Station - students can use this time to catch up on work they didn't have time to complete at a previous station or prepare themselves for an upcoming one. Station 5 - Applicability reading – students read a short passage from an article, website, etc. which directly connects the classroom content to a real life application. Station 6: Test your knowledge – students answer 5 multiple choice questions then provide a written explanation for how/why they came to their conclusions. Station 7: Learn from the expert – using a classroom computer or their own device, students must watch a short video clip and answer the associated questions. They may stop, rewind and restart as often as they like during the time frame. Station 8 - Rest Station. Station 9: Become the question master – Students must create 2 multiple-choice questions, 2 true/false questions and 1 short answer question. Biology Binder Covers – Templates for Classroom Use Organize your biology handouts, notes, and units with visual clarity Simple and flexible templates to help organize your biology materials In my biology classes, it can be a challenge to keep things organized - especially when it comes to multiple units, lab notes, worksheets and review materials. To make it easier for my students and myself, I designed these simple binder sleeves. There are 12 different pages. The covers have a clean, colorful blob layout that is friendly but not distracting. I usually print them out and use them as cover sheets or as dividers in folders for students or teachers. They also work well for digital learning environments, e.g. as section covers in PDF files or on classroom platforms. I like that the color scheme allows students to quickly find what they are looking for, and it brings a little more structure to a subject that is often riddled with formulas and technical terms. When used as cover sheets, students can choose their favorite color for their cover sheet. This resource is handy - and has saved me a lot of time in lesson preparation and follow-up.
