These no-prep, self checking cut and paste math puzzles are great for helping students to focus on addition as they do number bonds for number 30. Preparation: Just print and go! There are 2 pages for each number – The main worksheet and a page with puzzle pieces that need to be cut out and pasted on the worksheet. Each student will need a copy of both pages. There is also a “Back of Puzzle Pieces” page. This needs to be printed on the reverse side of all puzzle pieces pages. There are 2 printing options – colour or black and white You can also mix and match the colour and black and white pages. For example, you could print only the puzzle pieces in colour and the worksheet in black and white if you wish. These worksheets are great for: Homework Centers Extra work for early finishers Extra practice for students struggling with Number Sense How Students Use These Worksheets: Students cut out the puzzle pieces and place the pieces with the pictures facing down, so that the numbers on the back are visible. Next they need to look at the worksheet. There are sums in the blocks that need to be completed. They must find the pieces that match the sums and paste the pieces on the correct squares, with the numbers facing downwards and the picture facing upwards. Summary: Students complete the Somebody, Wanted, Because, But, So graphic organizer and write a summary of the story. Story Event Sort: Students will describe a scene or event from the story that fits into each of the categories & explain how the event made them feel & how it relates to the category. Cause & Effect: Students will fill in the missing effects (ANSWER KEY included). Making Connections: Students make connections to an event from the story. Making Inferences: Students use clues & schema to make inferences while reading the story. Reading Text & Illustrations (2 levels included - one with hints): Students read the text from the story, look closely at the illustrations, list details they notice in the illustrations, and explain what those details communicate about the characters. (ANSWER KEY included). What Are They Thinking?: Students use the illustrations and what they know from the story to fill in the thought bubbles with what they think the characters are thinking. Character Inside & Out: Students include details from the story to describe what the character says, thinks, does, and feels. Character Feelings: Students describe how the character's feelings change throughout the story & give examples of the events that cause them to feel the way they do. Character Development: Students select character traits that best describe the character at different times throughout the story and give examples from the book to support the traits they chose. Character Change: Students will explain how the character changed from the beginning to the end of the story and describe the events that caused the change to happen. Sketch a Scene From the Story: Students will draw a scene from the story & explain why it's important. Setting the Scene: Students identify three different settings in the story and explain how they know the setting changed. Author's Message: Students describe four important events from the story and put them in chronological order. Then, answer the questions about the author's message. Theme: Students answer the questions to determine which theme best fits the story and provide text evidence to support their choice. 3-2-1: Students will list three ways Gruntly shows he’s selfish, describe two mistakes he made during the treasure hunt, and choose one word that describes Gruntly the best and explain why. Before & After: Students will describe how Gruntly treated his companions before completing the treasure hunt and how he treated them after. Thinking About the Text: Students will answer the questions about the story & include examples from the text to support their answers. Treasure Hunt: Students will draw & label a map showing the three places the park ranger’s clues led the animals and come up with three more clues to add to the next treasure hunt. Word Search: Students will find the words hidden in the puzzle (ANSWER KEY included). Sharing is Caring Poster: Students will create a poster about the importance of sharing that includes a short message about sharing and illustrations. Book Review: Students will rate and review the book. Compare & Contrast: Students will compare & contrast the books All for Me and None for All and Princess Penelope’s Parrot. Riddle Me This Place Value Activity

Riddle Me This is an engaging math activity for your 2nd and 3rd grade students to review place value. If you’re looking for an outside-the-box way to work on (or review) place value with your students, you’ve come to the right place! In this packet you will find 15 clue cards: ten are on a third-grade level, five are a bit more challenging, and one is a blank card for students to use to create their own place value riddle. Students will read the clues to help them solve the riddle of “Which number are we looking for?” There is a work-mat for students to use to write down digits as they solve the riddles and a line for their answers. These cards may be used as a daily self-starter/morning work activity , one larger math activity to complete in one or two days, or as center/daily five activities. They can be used for individual problem solving, group problem solving, or whole class problem solving. After the kids have had experience with the clue cards, they can create their own place value clue card on the blank template. It’s fun to let students solve each other’s riddles if there’s time. Otherwise, it’s a good indicator of whether there is understanding or not. Tips It can be a lot of paper to copy the cards for everyone. You can save paper, time, and energy by doing stations. Copy each clue card on cardstock (laminate if you’d like or have access to a laminator) and place one at each station. Once students have had time to solve a riddle, they’ll rotate to the next clue card. The work-mats are numbered so it will still be easy to check as a whole class. Another idea would be to copy the cards 4 to a page by going to print, clicking on full page slides, and choosing either four slides vertical or four slides horizontal. This would make for smaller copies and less paper!
