Spring Two Step Equation Maze March Activity
Math, Algebra, Grade 6, 7, 8, Activities, Centers, Games, Worksheets & Printables
This spring-themed maze is one of those activities students actually enjoy while practicing two-step equations. Instead of just solving problems on a worksheet, they move through a path by finding the correct answers, which keeps them focused much longer than usual. I created this to give middle school students extra practice with solving linear equations without it feeling repetitive. They’ll work with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division as they go from one step to the next. The setup is simple. Students solve an equation, look for their answer, and follow the maze to the next problem. If they make a mistake, they usually notice it quickly because they end up stuck, which helps them self-correct. It works well for grades 6–9, especially for review lessons, early finishers, or even as a quick activity before a test. I’ve also used it in small groups and turned it into a timed challenge, which students tend to like. There are two versions included, so you can choose an easier or slightly more challenging option depending on your class. This makes it easier to use with mixed ability levels. Answer keys are included with the full solutions, so students can check their work or you can go over it together. The file is a printable PDF (9 pages), ready to use with no prep.

Paper Helicopter STEM Project: Gr 5-7 Scientific Method Mini Unit
Science, Basic Science, Technology, Engineering, STEM, Grade 5, 6, 7, Activities
Here's a great science mini-unit for the start of the year to help your middle school or intermediate students learn about the scientific method, design, and independent variables in a fun and hands-on way! This is also a great project to complete before a science fair unit! How to Use: Print a booklet (double-sided) for each student with pages 2-9. Print a single page 10 for each student. o Types of Variables: Read through as a class, give students time to identify the mistake, and teach students the three types of variables. o Designing Experiments : Students can work in pairs or small groups to think of how they would design experiments for the following situations. Come back together and share as a class, then ensure students complete the bottom section on their own to assess comprehension. o Paper Helicopter STEM Activity: Carefully go through the instructions. Choose a date in a couple of weeks for Registration Day (students will need at least 3 hours of class time to test models). The class after that can be Finals Day. Next, students use their single sheet (p. 10) to make the initial design and test it several times to see how long it takes to fall. o Helicopter Logbook: Students make at least three new designs. Each time they should only change one variable from the previous design. So, they could first change the wing length. After that, they could change the type of paper, and finally, they could change the size of the model, etc. Each time they explain, predict, make the model, observe 3 trials, and reflect. o Registration Day: Once students have tested at least 3 designs and have their best one, they make a fresh template of that design to hand in. Finals Day: Students have 10 minutes to create their final helicopter from their template. Everyone tests three times, and the class winner can be determined! [Note: The best design usually ends up being a simple, tiny square of paper!] o Reflection: Students complete the three questions and put all their pages together to be marked out of 50.

Literacy Readers Overview This product is perfect for small group instruction, such as guided reading, strategy groups, or interventions. It could also be used for independent reading, homework, or holiday work. It could also be used for literacy stations, read-aloud practice, or sub plans. Extension Ideas There are several ways to extend the lesson, including reading twice—first for understanding, and the second time to find the key details. Perhaps you can highlight or underline a detail that answers the comprehension questions. You can also turn it into a writing activity: What did you learn, or retell the story using first, next, then, finally. You could even choose a vocabulary word, draw it, with a caption from the text. For more advanced learners, perhaps you can compare this to another text they have read recently. Differentiation Tips For differentiation, if the words are hard, then perhaps you can preview some of them before you begin. For responses, perhaps you can give the students the first few words, for example, “In the book…”. You can also pair up the students, which normally leads to one of them helping the other. You can read it through again for fluency. Perhaps you can read two or three pages at a time and then come together as a group and analyze. ELA, Reading, Reading Comprehension, Literature, Grade 4, 5, 6, Worksheets & Printables, Novel Studies, Teacher Tools, Graphic Organizers, Activities, Assessments, Worksheets
Figurative language generates emotion, sets the tone and mood, and reflects subtle connotational nuances. These are crucial cues that assist readers in making inferences and comprehending the author's purpose. Students should be aware of this type of language. This figurative language study provides an abundance of figurative language examples from the novel Zane and the Hurricane by Rodman Philbrick that students can analyze. ⭐️This resource includes:⭐️ Figurative Language Posters: Simile, Metaphor, Hyperbole, Personification, Idiom (definition, why authors use it, examples, & non-examples) Figurative Language Practice Sheets: Students will identify figurative language in passages taken from the novel and determine the type, meaning, and author’s purpose for including the figurative language identified in each passage. This activity can be divided up by splitting the class into groups and having each group work on different pages for a section of chapters. It could also be divided up and assigned as a bell ringer, warm-up activity, or exit ticket. Includes a total of 20 pages and is broken into the following sections: Ch. 1–5, Ch. 6–10, Ch. 11–15, Ch. 16–20, Ch. 21–25, and Ch. 26–end (INCLUDES ANSWER KEY). Finding Figurative Language Chart : As students read the novel, they fill out the chart with examples of figurative language they come across while reading. Students should provide the quote from the text, page numbers, type of figurative language used, meaning, and why the author included it. The figurative language chart is not specific to this particular novel and can be used with any text. ⭐ You may also like: ⭐ https://teachsimple.com/product/inside-out-and-back-again-vocabulary-study https://teachsimple.com/product/a-sweet-smell-of-roses-picture-book-read-aloud https://teachsimple.com/product/let-the-children-march-picture-book-read-aloud https://teachsimple.com/product/file-folder-game-honey-bee-vowel-teams Be sure to check out my storefront here: https://teachsimple.com/contributor/creatively-gifted
