The package includes two decodable reading books, two matching PowerPoint presentations, four video lessons and over twenty supporting activities spread across two weeks of instruction. The program uses a systematic, incremental approach that teaches just 10 words from the same phonics family over two weeks. This focused method allows students to thoroughly master each word through repeated practice in reading and writing exercises. The multisensory activities address common challenges such as poor word recall, letter confusion, difficulty recognising previously decoded words, and text tracking problems. Order, Outline and Steps Each lesson strengthens phonemic awareness while gradually moving students from individual word recognition to sentence reading and longer paragraphs. Video lessons are simple with no distractions to prevent cognitive overload The worksheets are intentionally brief to prevent fatigue and maintain concentration in students with processing difficulties. The reading books exclusively use studied words along with carefully selected sight words, ensuring students encounter familiar vocabulary that builds confidence. Supporting activities include tracking exercises, phonemic awareness practice, rhyming activities, sentence building, and two educational games. Words learned in previous lessons carry over to subsequent books, helping students develop fluent reading skills. The program also introduces a wider vocabulary of decodable words at a controlled pace, allowing reading skills to progress while maintaining student success. Who is the Short Vowel 'a' Reading Program for Struggling Readers for? This resource is particularly beneficial for students with dyslexia, general learning difficulties, cerebral palsy, or other conditions affecting phonological processing and word recall. The structured, cumulative nature of the lessons reduces mental overload while building essential reading skills. With this programme, you can help a non-reader today! The program is rooted in the Science of Reading offers a unique method for teaching phonics skills through a new way of creating stories. This program also provides the student opportunities to develop vocabulary, syntax and comprehension while expressing his/her own creativity and imagination. Constrained Narrative Architecture (CNA) Method not only moves students beyond rote memorization when learning how to decode word lists, but also teaches students how to build themed stories using the newly-acquired phonics skills. Once students have created a complete themed story, they will have an understanding of the phonics rules used in the story, plus vocabulary, syntax and comprehension. What You're Getting with This Resource Without Preparation That Has An Immediate Impact on Teaching!? PHASE ONE: Theoretical Foundations & Core Content for the Teacher- This guide provides an educator with an understanding of the neuroscience behind our methodology. The educator will learn the "why" of Orthographic Mapping, Cognitive Load Theory, Narrative Scaffolding, and other elements to become a more experienced and knowledgeable teacher. PHASE TWO: Student Workbook- The student workbook consists of 10 fun thematic worksheets and each worksheet will provide the student with a story background that aligns to the specific sequential skill provided on the worksheet, and offers the student an adventure in phonics. The Midnight Toy Shop (Syllable Segmentation) 10. The Enchanted Castle (Cumulative Review/Creative Story Building) This is ideal for large group instruction, small group intervention, structured literacy centers, or an effective homeschool phonics program. It will stop the continual slaughter of expected reading enjoyment and create skilled independent readers now! Search for: phonics programs, science of reading, early literacy, kindergarten reading programs, first grade phonics programs, second grade literacy programs, decodable activities, reading intervention programs, story building worksheets, fill-in-the-blank worksheets, structured literacy center materials, homeschool phonics programs, constant vowel, constant e, constant combination sounds, and constant blends of vowel sounds. The reason why parents and schools are happy is because the curriculum is based on scientific principles, known as the "Science of Reading." This means that the curriculum teaches children to read the right way and progresses from the recognition of the individual sounds to being able to read smoothly and understand what they are reading. Phonics becomes fun instead of boring since this curriculum substitutes the traditional rote phonics drills with engaging themed activities. Children become so involved in creating an imaginative story with dinosaurs or by creating a real-life story about a space station that they do not even realize they are really learning important phonics skills. True comprehension of what to read is developed because this resource requires students to select the word that completes a sentence so that it will make sense. This develops the child’s ability to read for meaning as opposed to simply reading out loud. This resource is designed to be easily differentiated as the teacher’s guide contains suggestions for helping struggling readers (such as those with dyslexia) and those working at an advanced level, making it suitable for all students in a diverse classroom or homeschool environment. This resource is comprehensive and ready to be implemented right away, as it includes not only the worksheets that are used in the program, but also has a complete teacher’s guide, student activities to use with the worksheets, and an answer key. Everything you need! Target Audience Review: According to the explicit scope and sequencing outlined on pages 7 & 8 that outline students working through CVC words all the way to multisyllabic words, the following summarizes how this PDF has been developed for: - Primary Target Students: Kindergarten (approx. age 5) - 1st Grade (approx. age 6) and 2nd grade (approx. age 7). - Primary Buyers: K-2 Classroom Teachers, Home School Parents, Literacy Specialists, Reading Interventionists and Tutors. Fresh Water: Guided Reading Level G with Lesson Plan

Fresh Water: Guided Reading Level G with Lesson Plan
ELA, Resources for Teachers, Reading Comprehension, Reading, Science, Language Development, Life Sciences, Geography, Social Studies, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Teacher Tools, Centers, Activities, Literacy Readers, Quizzes, Quizzes and Tests, Assessments, Lesson Plans

This Fresh Water (level g) guided reading book with lesson plan includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. DOWNLOAD THE CATALOG TO VIEW ALL GUIDED READING BOOKS AVAILABLE (SORTED LEVELS A-Z) Pre-Reading Question (x1) Teacher asks the prompt aloud, can be while showing the cover or first page. Students share what they already know, or make educated guesses from the cover. Prompt them to use the target vocabulary. Write some of their responses on the board to look back at during the reading. Vocabulary Words (x5) Introduce the five words, best doing it one at a time. Start by saying it, while students repeat and then see if anyone knows what it means before reading further. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Guided Reading Pages (x10) Check the book snapshot (below) for: primary topic - do you need to prep extra reading or intro materials on this? what is taught best - decide on 1-2 bullets to focus on, use the prompt or words provided here for best results. learning goals - what you are checking for students to be able to do after the session, elicit answers using prompts or words provided. key vocabulary (see section above). questions overview - so you know what is coming up and if you need to prep extra materials to assist understanding. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. Try to focus more on one student per session (rotating every time), so you can work out if they are ready to move up or need to move down a level. Comprehension Questions (back cover x3) This is your way to check that students didn’t just say the words, but actually understood the text. First, let students answer by pointing to the page/picture and saying a short sentence. After any answer, follow with: “Show me where you found that in the text.” In bigger groups, have partners answer first (10–20 seconds), then call on 2–3 students to share. Differentiation tips: Emerging speakers/struggling readers: oral + pointing On-level: oral in a full sentence Higher: one written sentence or draw + label Book Snapshot Title: Fresh Water Genre: Nonfiction Subject: Life Science (Earth science—water) Primary Topic: Fresh water sources, places, and why it matters Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): G What This Book Teaches Best How fresh water differs from salty water (fresh water is not salty). Where fresh water comes from (rain from clouds; snow melting on mountains). Places fresh water is found (rivers, a stream, a pond, deep lakes). How water can move fast or stay still depending on where it is (rivers vs. pond). Why fresh water is important for living things , including plants taking in water through roots. Learning Goals Students can explain that most water on Earth is salty and fresh water is not salty. Students can describe two ways fresh water forms (rain from clouds; snow melting on mountains). Students can name places the book shows fresh water (rivers, stream, pond, lakes). Students can compare how water moves in different places (rivers move fast; pond water stays still). Students can tell why fresh water matters to living things, including plants and trees. Key Vocabulary From the Text salty — tasting like salt. rivers — long, moving water that flows across land. stream — a small river. pond — water that stays in one place. roots — parts under the ground that take in water. Discussion Prompts Pre-reading question: Where do you think fresh water comes from, and where might we find it? Comprehension questions: What does the book say fresh water is not ? Comprehension questions: What are two places the book shows fresh water can be found? Comprehension questions: Why is fresh water important for living things in the book? Printing Tips 1. Best Printing Method (Recommended) “Booklet” Printing (Best if Available) If your printer or PDF viewer supports Booklet Printing , use this. Settings to use: Print mode: Booklet Paper size: Letter or A4 (either works) Orientation: Landscape Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Scaling: Fit to printable area Booklet subset: First test: Front sides only Then: Back sides only This will automatically: Pair pages correctly Put the cover on the outside Align everything for folding After printing, fold in half and staple along the spine . 2. If “Booklet” Printing Is NOT Available You can still print this correctly with manual duplex printing . Step-by-step: Open the PDF. Choose Print . Set: Orientation: Landscape Pages per sheet: 1 Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Print all pages . Because each PDF page already contains two facing book pages, the result will still fold cleanly into a book. Thousands of Cored Education products are included with your TeachSimple membership. B and D Reversal — A Structured Daily Intervention Programme
Common Core, Phonics, Language Development, ELA, Spelling, Special Education Needs (SEN), Special Resources, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, Charts, Teacher Tools, Lesson Plans

B and D Reversal — A Structured Daily Intervention programme to tackle a real problem: Dyslexic Logic Font used with permission. B and D reversal is one of the most persistent problems in early literacy. The Problem Children who confuse these two letters are not being careless, nor are they failing to try, as some suppose. They know that Bee says 'b' and Dee says 'd' — they have moved beyond learning beginning sounds. The problem is not knowledge — it is retrieval. When a child is writing at speed, the brain cannot always pull up the right letter shape quickly enough. The child starts to write, and the wrong shape is already on the page. They do not have time to sit there working out which way round a b or a d goes. They guess. And nine times out of ten , they get it wrong. The teacher points out the errors. The child feels dumb. Parents and teachers scour the web for a solution. They try one thing after another with the same fruitless results. The usual approaches — the bed trick, the b hand, repeated correction — all share the same flaw. They ask the child to retrieve the correct answer from memory under pressure. The b hand fails because the child cannot remember which hand is which. That is precisely what they cannot do reliably. A strategy that depends on the thing that is broken will not fix the thing that is broken. The Solution Remove the need to retrieve the correct shape and formation from memory entirely. This pack gives the child a simple visual reference — a card with a picture embedded in each letter shape, fixed permanently to the desk, with a clear starting point for letter formation marked on each letter. One glance before writing, and the right letter is there. No memory required. No cognitive load. Just the correct letter, every time. The Dyslexic Logic Font — used with permission — is used throughout. This helps pupils establish the correct letter shape more easily. What is included Table cards for the desk, bookmarks for reading books and folders, and smaller cards for use wherever your child writes. Every format ensures the cue is always within reach — because a cue that is not there cannot help. Five weeks of pre-written daily word lists — carefully sequenced from single b words through to mixed b and d in longer words. Nothing to prepare. Just open and use. Weekly record sheets — a simple daily checklist tracking whether your child chose the correct letter, checked the card independently, and formed the letter correctly. Includes a progress chart the child completes themselves and a readiness check so you know exactly when to move to the next stage. A full step-by-step guide for parents and teachers. This is the part most similar resources leave out. A visual cue only works if the child has been properly trained to use it — consistently, every time, before they write rather than after. The guide explains exactly how to do that, how to handle resistance, and what to expect over time. A video guide showing the full programme in action — because seeing it is easier than reading about it. There are no quick fixes here. The habit of checking takes weeks to establish and months to become fully automatic. But with consistent use, it works — and this pack gives you everything you need to make that happen. Suitable for use at home or in the classroom with any child who has a persistent b and d reversal problem, regardless of which reading programme they are following.
