Guided Reading is a research-based instruction process whereby the teacher works with small grouping of students being equal in a particular reading achievement level. The teacher provides for each reader's development of effective reading competencies. However different than in the earlier days of reading groups, small and temporary groups are flexible and dynamic. The observance and evaluation of the progress of readers are done by teachers on a systematic basis. Thus, grouping and regrouping students is based on the strengths of students and the intense changing needs throughout their reading development. In the 1960s in New Zealand, Guided Reading was developed. It was enhanced over the years after it arrived in the United States thanks to educators like Gay Su Pinnell and Lesley Fountas. In 1996, Fountas & Pinnell published their enormously influential book, Guided Reading: Good First Teaching for All Children (Heinemann). This book changed how reading was taught, and it is still taught today to over a million teachers worldwide. The aim of Guided Reading lessons is to develop effective readers. A set of 13 books is bundled together with all 13 worksheets of the Guided Reading series for grades KG-12. There are lesson plans and different activities for every grade, with the answers in the end section of the worksheet.

This CVC unit is engaging for students as they practice reading and learning the short vowel sounds while students cut and make the words, trace the words, write the words, and stamp out the words. Reading short vowel / rhyming words is an introduction to reading. Repetitive practice of reading these words is also another fundamental practice to help students read. In this unit, students will practice word families that have the same ending. Teach students that word families rhyme and only have a different beginning sound. For each word family, students will practice making, tracing, writing, or stamping six different words. Some of the words are proper nouns or names given to people or pets. There are also nonsensical words that are not real. The purpose of these words is to teach how to sound out words only within the same word family. Reading Made Simple is a programme of phonic instruction that aims to make reading easier for everyone. This programme will give you all the tools you need to help a child gain confidence as a reader and/or writer, using phonics instruction. It is popular amongst home-schooling families, but can equally be used by private tutors and is simple enough to be used supplementary to school work by parents. About Reading Made Simple The programme is Very simple to teach: One basic lesson format and no complicated phonic language to learn Flexible - no one size fits all. You can choose the path that is right for your child. Systematic: Each lesson builds on the one before, creating a seamless learning experience. Many pupils do not even realise how much they have learnt, as it seems so easy! Who is this reading and writing programme for? Children who are just starting to read and write Older children who can already read but need help with spelling and writing Children with special needs who have failed with other phonic programmes Anyone of any age and ability who needs to learn to read and/or write! What is included in the pack? This is a Phonic spelling programme. Not only will it teach a child to spell, but also to write. Just add a good handwriting programme. The spelling programme can be used with all ages from 5 to 99, however, if used with a young learner I strongly advise using the programme to teach both reading and spelling at the same time. The spelling programme can be used: with children who have learnt to read, but need a spelling/writing programme with children who have tried another phonic programme and not made much progress with reading and/or spelling/writing with a special needs child who needs a very structured approach to learning by home educators by parents wishing to help their child at home About the programme The programme is very flexible and can be made to fit the child, rather than the child to fit the programme. Being highly structured, each new lesson builds on the one before, constantly revising the previously taught material The spelling programme will take 41 weeks to teach. One new sound is taught each week. What is included? In this 7-slide Google Slides Lesson Presentation, students will learn about the Traffic Light Feelings. This is a self-regulation tool that helps students identify when they are being unsafe, have a big emotion, and need to stop. Red feelings are feelings that are BIG such as really angry, scared, unsafe, or out of control. Students will learn the phrase STOP, SLOW AND GO strategy. The yellow light represents feelings that are silly, excited, worried, stressed, or frustrated. The green light represents feelings that are good for class, with peers in the class or when they need to focus on a task. There is a sorting activity with 18 sorting cards. Some of the scenarios on the cards are; kids who are too excited and silly with their parent, a child who is very upset and visibly crying, 2 kids arguing, 2 kids fighting, a child who is calm, a child who is reading, a child who is proud about graduating, a child who is raising their hand, a child in their own personal space bubble, a child who is frustrated about breaking a toy, a child who is thinking, a child who is running from a crocodile, children who are jumping in excitement, a child scared about talking in front of an audience, etc. First, you can show the 7 slide presentation with animations throughout the presentation. Next, the students will work in partners/group to do the sorting activity. They will get a sorting sheet and 18 cards. Print off a sorting sheet and 18 cards for each partnership/group. Lastly, invite students back at their own desk to color in their traffic light coloring sheet and think of the different feelings represented in each light. There are 7 slides in the presentation for the class and there are 5 slides that contain the sorting activity, sorting cards, and coloring sheet.
