This product covers the 2016 Virginia (VA) Standards of Learning (SOL) 3.17 The student will create equations to represent equivalent mathematical relationships. (note that this will also work for the 2023 VA SOL 3.CE.1 d The student will estimate, represent, solve, and justify solutions to single-step and multistep problems, including those in context, using addition and subtraction with whole numbers where addends and minuends do not exceed 1,000. d) Identify and use the appropriate symbol to distinguish between expressions that are equal and expressions that are not equal (e.g., 256 - 13 = 220 + 23; 457 + 100 ≠ 557 + 100). ) It contains notes pages on understanding and balancing equations. It also includes key vocabulary to use when balancing equations. There are practice pages for each topic, with an answer key included. The notes pages come in two sizes. The first size is a full-page size. You can print them as-is, or you can print them two to a pages. This is what I do as it saves on paper and the sheets will fit in a notebook. Cognitive Triangle Poster
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Special Education Needs (SEN), Not Grade Specific, Posters, Classroom Decor

In cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), the cognitive triangle is a conceptual framework that illustrates the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It is often used to help individuals understand how their thoughts influence their feelings and actions. The cognitive triangle consists of three components: 1) Thoughts: This refers to the cognitive processes, beliefs, and interpretations that individuals have about themselves, others, and the world around them. Thoughts can be rational, helpful, and realistic, or they can be distorted, negative, and unhelpful. CBT emphasizes identifying and challenging negative or distorted thoughts to promote healthier thinking patterns. 2) Emotions: Emotions are the subjective experiences and feelings that individuals have in response to their thoughts and interpretations. Emotions can range from positive (such as happiness and joy) to negative (such as sadness, anxiety, or anger). The cognitive triangle highlights that thoughts can directly influence emotions, and changing one's thoughts can lead to changes in emotional experiences. 3) Behaviors: Behaviors represent the actions or reactions that individuals engage in based on their thoughts and emotions. Thoughts and emotions can significantly influence one's behavior and choices. For example, if someone has negative thoughts about their abilities, they may avoid certain activities or situations. CBT aims to help individuals identify unhelpful behaviors and develop healthier behavioral responses based on more accurate thinking patterns. The cognitive triangle suggests that there is an interconnectedness between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. By understanding and addressing each component, individuals can work towards positive changes in their lives. CBT techniques, such as cognitive restructuring, focus on identifying and modifying negative or distorted thoughts to promote more balanced thinking, healthier emotions, and adaptive behaviors. , Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Rubrics, Teacher Tools

Math Journal Rubric: A Guide to Assess Middle School Mathematical Practice Standards and Math Written Responses This is a useful tool for middle school math teachers; it is specifically designed for grades 5 through 9. With a focus on word problems in math subjects, this rubric can add a new way of assessing your students' math skills at the middle/intermediate levels. The rubric includes 4 evaluation categories: Process: This assesses the strategy implemented by a student to find solutions. Vocabulary: This measures how effectively students use relevant math terms during explanations. Completeness: Students are evaluated based on how accurately they detail each step leading towards solution. Creative Representation: Students are encouraged to include corresponding diagrams or images along with their solutions to demonstrate their understanding. Each evaluation category has four levels of achievement: not yet meeting, minimally meeting, fully meeting, and exceeding. You can use this rubric to mark any open-ended math word problem prompt! I have my students do a math journal prompt once or twice a month, and this is an easy way to assess that work and look for problem areas and growth. If you would like a bundle of 20 Middle School Math Journal Prompts , that is also available in my store. Alignment with Mathematical Practice Standards (1-8) This tool aligns with and makes assessment of many of the Mathematical Practice Standards easy and efficient. For example: CCSSMP1 (Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them), CCSSMP2 (Reason abstractly quantitatively), and CCSSMP3 (Construct viable arguments & critique others). Grades to Use With: This math rubric is designed to be used in the middle grades (5-9) to assess Mathematical Practice Standards and your students' ability to share their ideas about math in pictures, numbers, and words.
