Although Flash Cards can contain any form of information, for the purposes of this resource, each Flash Card contains an image of the Canadian Province or Territory, its name and its capital. Overall, Flash Cards are used as a learning drill to help with memorization through repetition. Students can quickly and easily learn the Canadian Provinces and Territories and their capitals by using Flash Cards in their everyday study. Flash Cards exercise the mental processes of students’ brains. With repeated practice, students will learn to associate words with their spelling. About the Canadian Provinces and Territories and their Capitals: The country of Canada is separated into 13 geographic locations known as provinces and territories. During the Confederation of 1867, three provinces were united to form a federated colony. These provinces were New Brunswick (British North America), Nova Scotia and the Province of Canada, which was divided into Ontario and Quebec. From 1870 to 1949, Canada saw the rest of its provinces and territories join, the last being Nunavut in 1999. The provinces receive their power and authority from the Constitution Act of 1867. The territories receive their power from the Parliament of Canada.

Reading Made Simple — Free OW (snow) Phonics Workbook These little workbooks have been a quiet favourite with families using Reading Made Simple for some time now. Each one focuses on a single sound and prints on just one sheet of A4 paper — double-sided, folded in half to make a neat A5 booklet that children can hold and work through at their own pace. They are entirely optional. The phonics programme works perfectly well without them, but many parents and teachers find them a useful companion — either as structured practice or simply as a source of ideas to dip into when needed. Tested by real children: One 5-year-old user is quoted as having said, 'The worksheet is the best bit of my lessons!' Other parents have noted that their child likes the worksheet because 'they think it is easy'. When learning is broken down into small, achievable steps, with no curve balls to throw them off track, every child can say, 'I can read!' When I hear these reviews, I know that I have succeeded in my aim to write a phonics curriculum that can help children of all abilities learn to read and spell. These little workbooks are just one small part of what there is to offer. Please do check out the website for more information. Each workbook offers a gentle mix of activities built around the target sound. Children will read short passages that practise the new sound alongside words from sounds already taught, track and identify the sound within words to support both reading and spelling, practise spelling and sentence writing, and work through simple editing exercises where they spot and correct mistakes. These small editing tasks are particularly worthwhile — they encourage children to look carefully at words rather than guessing from context. The workbooks are particularly well-suited to younger children just beginning their phonics journey, and to older children with special educational needs who are still building their foundational reading and spelling skills. That said, they will not suit every child. Some will find them too long, others too straightforward. Use your own judgement — pick the activities that fit, leave the rest, or set them aside entirely. There is no obligation and no right or wrong way to use them. To print: print double-sided, flipping on the short edge. Fold in half to create your A5 booklet. The answer page at the back is optional. One sheet of paper. One sound. Everything a child needs to practise, consolidate and grow in confidence.

These sports themed number cards are perfect for students who are learning with a sports theme. They make the perfect tool for students to learn the letters of the number. What is Included: This set includes one number card and one number word card for all numbers up to 20. Ways to Use the Cards: Play a matching game by matching the numbers to their number words. Attach a paper clip to a number card and use a magnetic fishing pole to "catch" the numbers for a fun fishing game. Use a sand or salt tray for students to practice writing the numbers or number words on each card. Have students find the numbers that you have hidden around the room for a fun number hunt. Place the number cards in numerical order. Create a pocket char game where you place the cards on a pocket chart and hide a picture behind one of the numbers. The students will guess which number the hidden picture is behind. Add objects so students can count to the number on the card. When to Use: Math Center - Place the cards in a math center for students to match independently or with a partner. Morning Tubs or Baskets - Place the cards in a morning bin for students to work on while their classmates arrive to class. Small Group Activities - The teacher can pull aside a small group of students who need extra practice identifying numbers and number words. These sports number cards are a great activity for students to practice number recognition. They are a low prep activity for teachers to prepare for students. Simply print, cut apart and laminate for durability. These cards can be stored in a task box for easy set up, clean up, and storage. Skills Assessed: These cards, depending on the materials added, can assess both number recognition and number word recognition.

The Google Slideshow, 14 Random Writing Prompts : Character, Situation, Prop, Setting, and Phrase provides students with interesting and fun prompts for unique short stories and flash fiction. The prompts include ideas for writing realistic fiction, fantasy, science fiction, and mystery. stories Each prompt is structured with a character idea, a situation, a prop, a setting, and a phrase that they can seamlessly incorporate into their narratives and are designed to foster the development of compelling characters, gripping conflicts, vivid settings, and evocative moods. The prompts can be used in any order and can be customized to cater to the diverse needs of your students, whether they are Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)-identified, have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), are second-language learners, or fall into the general education category. Each time we write, I share 3-4 slides . Sometimes students will choose to mix and match different elements from different slides to write a story.Over the course of 25-30 minutes, they write to one or two of the slides of their choice. The next time we write, I include the original 3-4 and I add 1 or 2 more slides . Eventually, they will see the whole slideshow. If my students aren’t inspired by the prompts, they can write whatever they feel like writing, work on a previous prompt to develop it, or work on something else they’ve been writing.Every few days, instead of writing, students break into small groups and choose one of their stories to share with their group members for feedback. Over time, your students will have one or more completed short stories or flash fiction pieces.
