Playing the Game After the front screen the game begins. Press the control pad in the bottom left for the picture sequence to begin. Four pictures will appear on the arcade game console. After the sequence answer the question by clicking on the correct word. Correct answers will flash, incorrect will go dim. There is an arrow on the arcade game console at the top that can be used to move onto the next question. Each word is used twice but the order will be different the second time. About the Game Bring back some of your own childhood memories with this arcade pictures game. Practice key short and long U phonics words with retro colors and sounds. Four words are included on each question and these same words will appear for two rounds. Short U: Four Clues One Answer Sample Note: This download is in PowerPoint show mode to protect the rights of the image creator(s), and is thus UNEDITABLE. Playing the Game There are two rounds. In the first round, click on the numbers in order to reveal clues. There is no in-built points system giving the teacher full control over how you wish to grade the game. Clues range in difficulty with the majority of first clues harder and the last clue making it easier to guess. Press the box to reveal the final picture (the word itself). The reveal box can be done at the end if you wish to reveal the letters bellow first; the word is spelled in the boxes at the bottom, click on each box to reveal a letter. Round two offers a similar style but clues are in picture format. There is no reveal box but letters at the bottom as in round 1. There are arrows to move to the next slide throughout. About the Full Game (available in the ppt game links section below) This game offers a chance to practice a range of skills and gives the teacher control over how they want students to answer. Given a mix of clues in word and picture format, teachers can reveal each letter in the answer individually. Plenty of chance to practice reading key short U words and using thought processes to come to the right answer. 19 Slides. Long I: Three Quiz Show Style Games Note: This download is in PowerPoint show mode to protect the rights of the image creator(s), and is thus UNEDITABLE. Playing the Game After the titles and information about the game, the first game will begin. Students will be shown a close-up photo of an object and have to guess what it is. Press the = button for the answer and the original photo with word will appear. Press the arrow button to move onto the next question. 6 questions in total. Second game is a memory game. Starting with three pictures and ending up with six, students have ten seconds to observe the pictures on the screen, then need to say the words they remember. The picture page will automatically move on after ten seconds but if you wish to move on yourself quicker then there is an arrow button. In the answer screen, answers will flash if correct, dim if incorrect. Finally game is more like a question and answer, but in two parts. In the part, there will be a clue and 3-6 words to choose from. Press the correct answer. In the second section you will get the reverse, one word and then two to three clues to choose from. Choose the correct clue for the word. Includes arrows to move onto the next page. About the Game These three quiz show games will give you the perfect opportunity to practice key long I vocabulary and practice the long I sound. With a mix of reading and picture related questions, this will give each student amply opportunity to practice. Three games. Playing the Game After the front slide the game begins. First rounds are easier with less pictures. Later rounds are harder with up to 9 pictures at the end. Teams will take it in turns to answer. Gameplay Taking round 1 as an example. Three pictures are shown. After 10-15 seconds they will disappear. Students are to try and follow at least one of these pictures. Click the go button to begin. The three pictures will mix between themselves and end in a different position. Team A goes first. Anybody in the team can answer. Say the number and then the word. Click on the card to see if the answer is correct - 1 point per correct answer. After Team A have answered. Offer the chance for Team B and subsequently C, D etc in order. to answer. Attempt to get all of the cards answered before moving on. Click on the arrow to continue to round 2 . If you ever need to replay a round, you can press the refresh button on the left side. As the game goes on, you may want to change the rules by allocating 2 words for each team to follow with bonus points if they can answer any other words. About the Full Game (available in the ppt game links section below) If you want an exciting way to practice letter A phonics words, this is the game for you. With a variety of difficulties and short A/long A words, this is the ideal review game. Many students will be able to get involved in each round and with ten rounds, the whole class will enjoy themselves while practicing phonics at the same time. 21 slides. 10 rounds. Short and Long A practice - question prompted by pictures. Short A words used: cap, hat, bag, man, dad, ham, map, can, bat, pan, mat, tag, sad, jam, cat, fan. Short A: Riddle Time Sample Game Note: This download is in PowerPoint show mode to protect the rights of the image creator(s), and is thus UNEDITABLE. Playing the Game The question slide will begin with a clue and the amount of points available for guessing the correct word with this clue alone. Students can write/say their answers. Clicking the curved arrow on the right will make the next clue appear. This will have a lower points value but gives another clue for students to guess the word on. Again, press the curved arrow for the final clue. This is pretty much a a give away ie. you put this on your head, so students win at least five points on each round. Press the arrow for the answer. A pic will also appear but immediately become semi-transparent so you can still see the clues underneath if you wish to go through them. Press the square in the bottom right corner to go to the next page. Will be harder for early learners due to the amount of reading so you may have to read it out and help with some meanings. About the Full Game (available in the ppt game links section below) Practice reading key short A words and clues with this game. Words come up clearly so are easy to read, you may want to ask students to spell the word before revealing it. Teachers have complete control over the length of each slide as clues comes out one-by-one. Here is a fun, print 'n play phonic game for the split digraph a-e! Help your pupils to grasp the tricky split digraph concept as they play! Who is the a-e game suitable for? All learners of phonics, including young children, SEN/special needs, ESL etc... Aims and Objectives Some children, when starting to learn about the long /a-e/ sound will start to make every /a/ into a long /a-e/ sound. While this is common among all children, some children need more help to overcome this difficulty. Therefore, this game has two aims: 1.To help children to be able to hear the long vowel sound a-e in words 2.To help children understand that some words have a short /a/ and some have a long /a-e/; the child must listen to hear which word has which - not guess. How to play: This is a game for two ore three players, one of which should be an adult. The game can be played with either pictures or sounds. Each player takes a game board (either pictures or sounds) which will indicate whether the player should listen for words with a short /a/ sound or a long /a-e/ sound. The adult reads a word on the word card, and the pupils must listen for 'e' or no 'e'? If the pupil has the sound/ picture on his/her board, she/he covers up a space. the winner fills hi/her board first. Teaching tips: Help children to hear the vowel sound by emphasizing it and stretching it out. Help the child to do this as well. Have fun - as this eases children over those tricky spots! This is a pack of 12 phonic worksheets for the Long Vowel I-E (as in tie and ride) specially designed for those with special needs, including those with dyslexia or who may be suspected of being dyslexic but will work equally well with young learners in Kindergarten/EYFS/Y1. A pack of 12 I-E worksheets with a variety of exercises to help build phonemic awareness and reading fluency. These sheets are LETRS and UK GOV requirements aligned. These worksheets also align with the most popular phonic programmes, including RWI and Letters and Sounds. What is included? 12 worksheets for the sound I-E taking pupils from hearing the sounds in words to reading and spelling them at word and sentence level. all following my special method devised as I privately tutor children of all ages with profound special needs. Your phonics lessons covered! Tracking, fluency triangles, spelling, reading, games, comprehension exercises....and more! Who are these worksheets for? I have written them for pupils who struggle with processing information - especially sounds. This includes children who are DYSLEXIC or have ANY other kind of processing disorder. Such children may have failed with other methods of teaching phonics. Such pupils need activities that: ·are highly structured - one tiny step at a time building on the one before using only a limited number of words to start with and only using words that the child has already learnt to sound out, with no nasty surprises. ·Have only a little on each pageas these pupils tire easily. What makes these worksheets special? I have a powerful three-step process which I use with my special needs pupils, which is worked out over the course of the 12 worksheets: 1. See it!where we focus on becoming aware of the new sound in words. This involves first hearing the new sound in words and then seeing it in words (tracking). 2. Sound-it-out!Having learnt to see the new sound in words, we learn to sound out these words to read and write them. We begin by usingsound-it-out boxesfor reading and spelling which help the child to segment the word prior to blending the sounds together. Once the child can read and write individual words, we work on fluency by building familiarity with the common words in the new sound family. Once the child can sound the words out to read and spell confidently, we move on to recognising them/using them in longer reading and dictation passages, as soon as the child is able. I provide 2 reading passages with comprehension exercises and one dictation passage, with a page in the workbook dedicated to it, with room for a picture, which again cements understanding. 3. Write it! Incorporated into the above two steps, we constantly write the new sound. This adds a multi-sensory dimension to our work - we see with our eyes, we sound it with our mouth parts and voice, and then we move by writing. All three steps work together to help the child feel in control of his/her learning and to become a successful, confident learner. We finish each sound with a dictation which culminates our work before we move on to the next sound. I try to give the dictation a week after we finish the work on the EA sound to act as revision. The dictation: Read this passage to your pupil, who should write it. Have the child read his/her work and check for errors. Make sure the writing is completely accurate before saying the child has finished, including full stops and capital letters correctly used. Flashcards are included of some common I-E words. Long and Short E: Quiz Game Note: This download is in PowerPoint show mode to protect the rights of the image creator(s), and is thus UNEDITABLE. Playing the Game Note 1: Upon opening you will come across a password prompt. Press 'read only'. Note 2: You may need to allow ActiveX controls to use the scoreboard. The game starts will the front screen. Press the arrow in the bottom right to move onto round 1 - short E. There are ten questions in each round, click on one of these buttons to go to that question. There are a mix of options and marks available. Click on the correct answer. Incorrect answers will go dim. Correct answers will flash, all the incorrect answers will dim, small picture will appear. At this point if you are using the scoreboard, click on scores. You can edit any of the boxes and don't need to leave slideshow to edit it - the team names and scores. Simply input using keyboard. You can't save this to use another time in the future but you can use it for as long as the PPT is open. From there you can go to Round 1 or 2 by clicking on the buttons at the bottom. Upon returning to the question screen, any questions already answered will be blank (ie. no text) so you can keep track of those answered. Once you finish round 1 the button for round 2 is on the round 1 question board or alternatively from the scoreboard. Long I: Three Review Games Note: This download is in PowerPoint show mode to protect the rights of the image creator(s), and is thus UNEDITABLE. Playing the Game Three games. In the first game, one picture will slowly appear (20 seconds long). Press the cookie in the bottom-left to begin, press again to reveal the answer. Press the arrow in the bottom-right to change to the next page. There are 9 questions in total Second game is similar but there will be two pictures appearing at the same time. Press the donut in the bottom-left to begin. The pictures will appear on the clock, press the pink clock button next to the picture that corresponds to the word at the top. Wrong answer will buzz, correct answer will make a noise and both pictures will be fully revealed. Press arrow in the bottom-right to change page. 4 questions in total. Last game will review the words from the previous game. Word is at the top, four pictures below, choose the correct picture for the word. Incorrect answers will dim out, correct answer will flash. Again, arrow in the bottom-right for the next question. 8 questions in total. About the Game This mix of long I phonics games will give students a perfect way to practice key long I words. With a range of questions and different kinds of pictures, each student will have the chance to practice reading and recognizing 17 long I words. Words: iron, ice, kite, hide, pie, light, night, knight, fly, pilot, pile, tie, vine, pipe, fry, cry, time. Picture Style: Clipart and Photos Features some sound effects for entertainment purposes. Helps to Build Letter recognition – Identifying letters in different fonts or contexts. Letter-sound association – Connecting letters to its sounds. Long and Short A: Follow the Vocab Note: This download is in PowerPoint show mode to protect the rights of the image creator(s), and is thus UNEDITABLE. Playing the Game After the front slide the game begins. First rounds are easier with less pictures. Later rounds are harder with up to 9 pictures at the end. Teams will take it in turns to answer. Gameplay Taking round 1 as an example. Three pictures are shown. After 10-15 seconds they will disappear. Students are to try and follow at least one of these pictures. Click the go button to begin. The three pictures will mix between themselves and end in a different position. Team A goes first. Anybody in the team can answer. Say the number and then the word. Click on the card to see if the answer is correct - 1 point per correct answer. After Team A have answered. Offer the chance for Team B and subsequently C, D etc in order. to answer. Attempt to get all of the cards answered before moving on. Click on the arrow to continue to round 2 . If you ever need to replay a round, you can press the refresh button on the left side. As the game goes on, you may want to change the rules by allocating 2 words for each team to follow with bonus points if they can answer any other words. About the Game If you want an exciting way to practice letter A phonics words, this is the game for you. With a variety of difficulties and short A/long A words, this is the ideal review game. Many students will be able to get involved in each round and with ten rounds, the whole class will enjoy themselves while practicing phonics at the same time. 21 slides. 10 rounds. Short and Long A practice - question prompted by pictures. Short A words used: cap, hat, bag, man, dad, ham, map, can, bat, pan, mat, tag, sad, jam, cat, fan. Each worksheet covers a TINY necessary STEP. The worksheets are: ·are highly structured - one tiny step at a time, building on the one before, using only a limited number of words to start with and only using words that the child has already learnt to sound out, with no nasty surprises. ·Have only a little on each pageas young/special needs older pupils tire easily. What makes these worksheets special? I have a powerful three-step process which I use with my pupils, which is worked out over the course of the 23 worksheets: 1. Sound-it-out!Having learnt to see the new sound in words, we learn to sound out these words to read and write them. 3. Write it!
